- RBotros, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Why mod i440 down, people, instead of just helping him? I know he could've googled it, but not the whole world is pc pros and u should'nt let him hate the digg community like that. If u're so cool and know what "AJAX" is, u should'nt hit anybody who doesn't. Oh, where are the gd old days of helpful diggers..
- agarwaen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Ajax = Asynchronous Javascript and Xml though Xml is not always used.
- mellenger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Most developers use JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) instead of XML for the communication back and forth because it's smaller and you need to do less processing on it. It should be called AJON.
- kadio, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4AJAX is just a neat name for Javascript tricks. XML is completely uneccesary.
- Robotsu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3The word is *Asynchronous.. you know, the whole delivery method that makes up the core of AJAX technologies
- drakaan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No, it's not just you.
- nitsuj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yes, it's just you.
- gmillerd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I dont see what is wrong with the creator studio, its a great vb-like interface to java and does some handsome things.
- sugarskane, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why make Ajax so complex? Simple libraries like this:
http://digg.com/programming/Feather_Ajax_-_a_1KB_Ajax_library
are so much more effective and are actually good learning tools.
Although this article might be useful for someone using Java, for a simple Ajax task, a toolkit like this is just way too unnecessary... - iamnotcicak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1been using it before ajax was even ajax.....digg this, the person who first coined it has a cool name: jesse james garret

"My biggest hope for AJAX is that it gets rid of a lot of JAVA craplications."
i'd prefer the tie to java for a common development language, java, to remain in place...tried building an ajax framework which ended up in un-maintanable code, plus a pain to make them cross-browser.
Like the approach google has taken with GWT http://code.google.com/webtoolkit/ where java developers do not need to learn a new language and leverage on existing knowledge - johlin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1And people complain about seeing Ubuntu stories on the frontpage all the time...
- moshisushi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1NetBeans is dead slow...
- dfltr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i think what agarwaen meant was that a vanilla xml result isn't always used, for instance a person could refer to the use of innerHTML as not being "xml" (though odds are it would be).
plus, ajax is more of a blanket term nowadays. if i grab JSON with an asynchronous request, i'm still going to call it ajax despite the fact that i neither sent nor received any actual xml. - cleverboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It's always possible it was a joke ppl. Sun, lifting AJAX to its mighty bossom and all. Food for thought.
- joshfraz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1nothing cutting edge here... moving on...
http://developers.sun.com/prodtech/javatools/jscreator/reference/code/samplecomps/index.html - d3ik, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I'm a Java developer. I like the technology, I like the Java developer community (Apache Jakarta, etc)... but the tools that Sun puts out usually *suck*. NetBeans? Java Studio Creator 2? As much as I like Java as a development platform, Sun just doesn't seem to "get" developers above the language level.
- chrism1128, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Is it me, or do all of these promising Ajax link just suck when they're tied to JAVA?
I mean every time I have to deal with JAVA it's just such a bad experience.
My biggest hope for AJAX is that it gets rid of a lot of JAVA craplications. - idioteque1025, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0I have just graduated from college with a degree in multimedia and I find the whole concept of AJAX integration to have a pretty steep learning curve. Yes it is simple to use AJAX to do simple text, i.e. static text or a simple hyperlink, but to do anyting advanced such as calenders or photo galleries it seems like you need 50 lines of code that you can barely figure out how to modify.
Everyone I know who is developing with it is buying/borrowing components that are already made. I would like to put on my resume that I can develop with AJAX, but I think that means more than just searching for components already made and skinning them to your site. - cypher35, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2"Ajax = Asynchronous Javascript and Xml though Xml is not always used."
Then it's not Ajax, it's just javascript... xml is an integral part of Ajax. - AirRaven, on 10/12/2007, -7/+24 comments and on the front page. Impressive.
- sk33t, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1Damn. Nearly every other word is AJAX.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1@RBotros
There are so many things wrong with your post. I just don't have the time... - i440, on 10/12/2007, -15/+6Ajax: Advanced...Java and Xml?
- Ryosen, on 10/12/2007, -10/+1You must be new here.
