- acetv, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22How exactly is this open source?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20I don't see the source anywhere for any of them
all I see is an executable and license. - jdstorer2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Seriously, How is this open source? Does anyone actually see any *source* files? All I see are executables.
Marked as Inaccurate. - manageMyRights, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D_programming_language
- ahawks, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14*sigh*
Sorry, I was one of those jerks that doesn't look before he speaks. I saw downloadable zips and assumed they contained source.
They don't.
Burry me as you will. - guaigean, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Yeah, and all you had to do was grossly misrepresent his work to get it noticed. It is not open source, or even close. How does the notice he gets compare to the legion of pissed off diggers that you lied to get to his page?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10reported as innacurate
- zacmccormick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7If all the site offers is single standalone exe eye-candy, then this digg is pointless. If he wants to let us view the c++ to accomplish it, that's a different story. Am I missing something or do I just see bare-bones executables + resources?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7The C Programming Language - ISBN 0131193716
This is the C bible. - 0x0000ff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5nice source ........
oh wait - Alkine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6What exactly is D ?
- TJ09, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Awesome effects, hard to use site, not open source.
- hexa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I just found this article because I got a couple of e-mails mentioning Digg. I am the author of the site. I never expected it to show up here since it's just some more or less newbie effects, at least OpenGL-wise. That is also why the source is not generally available, but I might change that seeing the interest.
- nykwil, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I don't really see why you need to learn c first, or read kernighan and richie book. The bible isn't necessarily the best introduction to religion. Things have also changed in the last 30 years.
Try thinking in c++ there's an online version:
http://www.mindview.net/Books/TICPP/ThinkingInCPP2e.html
It will definetly get you started in the right direction. - turpenine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3these look like nice screensavers
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Nice effects, crap website.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It didn't promise any source code, just that they were done with OpenGL (check NeHe C++ OpenGL tutorials for some source that will produce similar results).
Honestly, it had "open source" in the title, so it gets dugg down and flamed. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3man I got all excited, was going to plug these straight into a little space opengl game i'm writing. bah. burried as inaccurate.
- burke, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Try the classic: "The C Programming Language". It's only 200 pages and not too bad if you take it slow. If you want a more gentle tutorial introduction, that's probably not the place to go. I've heard good things about "Accelerated C++".
I would try to learn C first though. In fact, I wouldn't learn C++ at all, but some many people disagree. - fanboydcs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I want to start learning C and C++ on my own, I am a unix user, does anyone know some good books or online material I can read?
- simpleid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1By the replies you can tell roughly 1% are actually programmers. If I threw around all the eye-candy particle opengl apps I've ever made the lay public would believe I'm some kind of genius, when obviously people just don't get it.
I wouldn't even bother to make that source available, people would recompile the with their names all over it and 20 years from now show people the application "Yea i used to be able to write apps like this, but I havn't touched c++ in 20 years so can't anymore."
You're all a bunch of wacko's, bury me. PLEASE. - Alkine, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3thanks
- nykwil, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://digg.com/programming/Thinking_in_c_books_online_a_great_place_to_learn_C
- socokoolaid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Looks like a language half way between C++ and Python. From what wiki said, its still beta all the way around. Still, it looks promising.
- bart9h, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Indeed!
I'm using it for my new game project:
http://dsource.org/projects/qonkd/ - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Great to see this hit the front page, wasn't sure if it was going to make it but I think this guy deserves some credit.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6D is awesome! Easier to use than C/C++ and just as fast (in some cases faster).
- postitnote, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D
- thepearson, on 10/12/2007, -11/+5... Yeah I'd like to know that as well. I am having issues compiling the windows binary...
- AgentBlu, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2D should be the future of graphics development.
- acetv, on 10/12/2007, -12/+3*bury this*
- ahawks, on 10/12/2007, -16/+2Well, you can download the source can't you? Therefore "open"
It may not come with a GPL LICENSE file or anything, but "open source" does not specify license agreement, only that you are allowed to view the source.
@miznig:
Why you gotta be like that? A technicality doesn't mean you should burry the story.
