- jollyroger814, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9a lot of searching in one place. i wish this was around about 4 or 5 months ago when i needed to find a decent lightbox style gallery. there are some others that should really be on that list as well, but all in all that is a pretty damned good list.
- ShrimpCrackers, on 10/11/2007, -5/+8Yup great list.
Although I would include Expose Flash Gallery: http://www.slooz.com/photos.php - Blom, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2@lolwtfhaha - Do you have a link to your gallery? I use g2 for mine, and think the interface (while users are viewing) is really behind the times, switching to new ajaxian themes seemed to just make things worse. I've been looking around for a while for a replacement wich is a bit mor stylish, but have really been struggling to find something that does it all. eg. A few of the ones mentioned above looked nicer, but where's the EXIF data, some people wanna see that.
- lolwtfhaha, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3gallery.menalto.com
take a look at the 3rd party integration (iphoto, windows explorer, etc) and then the screensavers, and all the other jazz. Why would you put you photos into anything else? Heck I use a google gadget to show me a random picture of my daughter. It's ubiquitous. - kernelhappy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2While I use gallery2 (with the PGtheme) for my site, I have to agree that as much as it has nifty features and 3rd party integration, it lacks some polish and features in other places. I'm going to play with some of the setups from the article, I don't know that it will make me switch, but I agree with blom that a lot of the ajax stuff for G2 is flaky and there's room for improvement. I only wish I had more time to actually make the changes to gallery2 I want.
blom; you may want to try the PGtheme, it's a nice looking theme, the big thing I don't like about it are that my family can't right click and save or print pictures, they have to use the zip download which for the less computer savvy family members is cumbersome. - AlexApetrei, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Beautiful, i particularly like GreyBox and Slimbox .... pretty nifty . Thanx for posting.
- TheKingInYellow, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2@ all of you whiny babies
how about instead of bitching about lightbox style galleries being slow you just go ahead and use LIGHTBOX? it's fast and easy and looks great. or you could just optimize your damned jpgs beforehand so they load within a reasonable amount of time.
before you start complaining about *****, why don't you do some research and learn how to do what you're trying to do properly and efficiently? - Falldog, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I've been using the Matrix theme from day one. I feel it's better than the other preloaded themes. It's really simple to navigate and that's really the most important part. I haven't heard of PGtheme but I'll have to check it out.
Fr the most part I love G2 (2.2 is amazing). Definitely go with it if you're like me and have thousands of photos (I use Minishowcase, the first suggestion in this digg, for my favorites gallery). The only problem that I have is that it can be slow, but I can never tell whether that's G2 itself or my ***** Australian server. Everything else easily makes up for that, especially the new watermark feature which automatically tags them without ruining the original image. - robobeau, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I'm assuming you've never used the Videos section, then...?
- scot524, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Dugg ... this is a nice collection of useful tools. I think I am going to give a couple a try this weekend. Thanks.
- bmig, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1maybe read the article for a change. lightbox is not only one of the featured scripts, it is used in a handful of the others.
but hey... thanks for commenting. - newstart, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Guys, sorry for comment abuse. But I think it would be great if you guys can also post of other resources which think are good, over here. This is a perfect place to post such information. Ok lemme start here is a project called Lightbox JS: http://www.huddletogether.com/projects/lightbox/
- darkphoenix939, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1no original?? http://jimmac.musichall.cz/original.php3 oh its also gpl v2
- miao123, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Try this one. It's backed by YUI, thus supports majority of browsers (can auto scale large image).
http://thecodecentral.com/2007/08/17/yui-based-lightbox-revisit - AntonShevchuk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0JonDesign's SmoothGallery - it's very cool JS
I used it for work with Picasa Web Gallery:
http://antonshevchuk.googlepages.com/photogallery - abidshahzad4u, on 01/14/2009, -0/+0great resource. thanks for sharing.
- ninefourchevo, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2Smashing Magazine kicks ass. Rarely do they publish anything that is not digg-worthy. A+++
- yelsherif, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0I like it very much,
I also used to play around with Picasa web albums. There is a lot of Picasa templates to generate web albums. - m2paper, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0
Cool - dougrobinson, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0Excellent! Thanks--I've been looking for code like this for a long time.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -9/+7Ohhh, thanks for this!
- JollyGoodfellow, on 10/11/2007, -2/+0I don't like those lightbox slideshows either. It seems to take longer for the photos to load and most users do not have the patience for it.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -7/+1I fsckin' hate those g0dd4mn lightboxes. Nothing will drive me away from a site faster than slow-ass, "I'm such a l33t js c0d3r" lightboxes. It's always fun to watch people do stupid things to drives visitors away from their sites.
- agate, on 10/11/2007, -7/+0cool~~~
The AJAX!!! - jus1haz2, on 10/11/2007, -10/+2Smashing Magazine spams to the front page of digg almost once a week. Can i ask what the hell you people are doing digging it? I mean honestly it is easy to tell its gamed to the top and the "article" or w/e its supposed to be has the same css stuff on it all the time, i mean the css stuff is cool and all but its nothing a simple google search wont bring up when you need it.
