No thanks and no Digg. - Zonkzor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7We can easily screw this guy over. Google Adsense is very picky about websites violating their terms of use. In this case hosting pirated materials. We can get him banned for life and his money withheld.
1. Go to the guy's site again http://www.chmpdf.com/archives/ebooks/
2. Click where it says "Ads by Goooooogle"
3. Click "Send Google your thoughts on the ads you just saw"
4. Select "Report a violation" for the subject and say it's hosting pirated E-books. - Mejogid, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Edit: no its an order. Sorry.
- ScottTFrazer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8These are only "free" in the sense that the latest music cd's available on usenet are "free."
So a warez site for books has made the front page of digg? lame. - kacymartin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8@Mejogid
Making a profit supplying pirated works of other people.... yeah sure, nothin wrong with that, what a great guy. - Crasoum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"Disclaimer: This site was created as a service to those learning programming that might not have the resources available to purchase books. Let's face it...books are expensive. It is not the purpose of this site to infringe on any author's rights. As well as trying to download any of the books tends to lead you to two websites with tons of Google AdSense, and possibly a link that works; however none of the ones I tried did. - Mejogid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4(Damn short editing time)
Blacklist http://www.chmpdf.com/archives/site.js with your adblocking software (obviously that will change with mirrors). Just out of principal. - skitzot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I ain't disabling ad blocking software. Adsense or their own hosted ads for would fine, this mysterious crap won't fly.
- mattrmcg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2out of context, is there a way to get an ebook on an ipod?
- illicium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If you don't want to see the ads, but still want to browse, adblock http://www.chmpdf.com/archives/site.js
- lsmaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Too bad you have to login and reg. to download them.
- al28p, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2only by putting in notes, very hard to read
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'd be ***** if I were a publisher.
- airjrdn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1electrosoccertu are you actually getting them?
- hiscity, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Many of the books are outdated. The site posts a notice...

What a twist of fate! I think I'm beginning to understand...
The old-guard communists may have found a way to bring down capitalism after all and in the process get free nations to try to erect electronic and physical borders! All they have to do is not make copying or duplication of products illegal -- or simply not enforce existing laws -- effectively gutting world-wide copyright and patent protections. America would have to try to rebuild the Iron Curtain from the outside.
Looks to me like China or Russia either one could bring down the west overnight. The true irony would be that red-loving Hollywood would be the first to collapse from mass copying of entertainment products. I forgot about the French. That may be their strategy too.
How spooky! In one hour "Great Babylon" with all it's riches could truly fall. And that without setting off a single nuke or wmd. Of course, all the major software houses would topple like dominoes along with the media outlets. First World nations would have to try to cut net access and seal borders -- but in so doing, they'd strangle themselves by cutting off the world-wide market.
The old soviet mantra: from each according to his ability, to each according to his need, is being echoed in the phrase: "This site was created as a service to those learning programming that might not have the resources available to purchase books."
And which part of the aftermath would you rather live in: the copy rights zone or the copy free zone? - gadgetsguy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2If you cannot afford a $5 book in a discount bin at your local computer store (yes, they ALL have them ... ) then you need to go GET A JOB !!!
NO DIGG
GG - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hey if everyone will stop using the site so it doesn't choke, I'm doing wget --recursive on it and will post a link to a torrent on isohunt/demanoid/etc when it is finished. Right now I'm getting 10KB/s.....but getting each connection/file is taking 8 or so seconds.
- elvirs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this is a made for adsense ***** site with less than half of links working. how such ***** sites get front page?
- SmeRndmGy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1only computer books and it is illegal. No digg, reported as spam.
- guesty, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2human knowledge belongs to the world :P

http://manybooks.net/ - TheWalkingDude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Here's a Top 100 list of E-books and audio books. There are no ads, and they are free and legal:
http://www.digg.com/tech_deals/Top_100_Free_E-Books - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Reported as spam and reported to Google.
- darkecho, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1somebody has been watching to much "Antitrust" latley
- mittalpatel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Tones of free online ebooks available for computer freaks at http://www.free-ebooks-junction.com .
- airmann90, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah, I get my e-books via torrents... its fast and you can usually get even better collections...
- Kevin108, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Middle-click or CTRL+click the link. It will open in a new tab without you having to disable Adblock.
- darkecho, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3wow how lame. to bad at least some of them are illegal, as i talk to the publishers of some of those books and they do not allowed full downloads of them.
- wholesomedick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm poor, have a job, am a student, and really appreciate free textbooks. Stop being a jack-hole.
- capiCrimm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Which is why I support enslaving all of Asia.
Anyway, last time I checked China was the one who built a giant firewall, not the US. Free information seems to hurt communistic countries as much as it hurts us. - NtHammer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1just open the links with a new tab, its working fine for me
- darkecho, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1"Who cares if they're illegal? Dumbass.
That's all the more reason why this is cool. Since when have free books been better than books you pay for? What, are the book police going to come knocking at your door for downloading a book?"
First off, why call me a dumbass. Now im not a "anti-piracy" person but I am just suprised that digg has allowed this to stay up. Books have always been better payed for as you get a physical copy of it. I have plenty of ebboks, but I am not gonna go spread it to the world with download links.
In fact here shortly once I get my site templated in, I will be distributing ebooks, which are 100% legal as I have permission from the publishers. One of which is on that list. - Invader02, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Anybody wanna open up a vamp to shut this site down?
- thejapa, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1This is not about free ebooks. This is about pirated ebooks. This is really lame, almost all universities offer cheap or free library access. You can even browse Safari University Accounts. Information is free, if you know where to look. There is no need to steal someone's work.

- thejapa, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Sorry for the FUD, then, it comes with the package sometimes. :)
- Travelsonic, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Has he term "copyright infringement" escaped your vanacular, or have you been smoking too much of the **AA's grass?
Pirated is not good yes... it is illegal yes... but we are talking about one thing and not the other. You don't need to call copying anything else to teach the impact/negativity it causes, if any, and the concequences. - al28p, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2I agree, downloading one right now.
- Bzini, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4Very nice collection.
- Mejogid, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4Its a request, not an order. There's nothing wrong if the guy wants to make a small profit.
- Xizer, on 10/12/2007, -12/+1Who cares if they're illegal? Dumbass.
