We're still letting private companies write *****, unprotected, Microsoft Access based software that isn't allowed to be verified by anyone and we trust our entire electoral process to this absolute garbage.
At first there was a lot of people saying that the problems with these machines and software are either deliberate election hacking or rampant stupidity. We've had more than enough time to move past the stupidity allegations that it's almost screaming in our faces that our elections are being taken away from us.
Do you honestly mean to tell me that diebold, one of the largest producers of ATM machines in the country doesn't know the value of a paper receipt. Just imagine them trying to sell an ATM machine to a bank that didn't keep a paper trail of the money distributed. Yet somehow we let this same company sell us machines to track our voting, while for no explainable reason not keeping a paper trail? I'm sorry, I'm not that ***** stupid, they aren't either, and you definitely shouldn't be.
Verified voting is one of the simplest concepts imaginable, and the fact that we can't and don't allow this is one of the worst things, if not the worst thing to happen to our society. - mikelieman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+70Heh... CALIFORNIA JUST DID THE TESTING FOR YOU, OHIO...
The Secretary of State learned that they are so vulnerable to manipulation in the most basic way, she DECERTIFIED each and every one of them.... - grungegbunny, on 10/10/2007, -1/+57The question is.. Why would you block the testing unless you know its already rigged in your favor?
- VitriolAndAngst, on 10/10/2007, -1/+37It is also very curious, that 80% of the voting precincts that were under court order to submit their voting records claim to have lost them. Now you could call it evidence of a cover-up of election fraud, or you could just say that it's a massive coincidence and there is nothing to see.
What else is new, eh? - Brianguy2000, on 10/10/2007, -3/+27Bush wins in Ohio for a 3rd term?!
- theNazz, on 10/10/2007, -2/+26There are people in jail in Ohio for the voting fraud in 2004. No wonder the GOP doesn't want people sniffing around the Diebold GOP counters in Ohio. They don't need their people in jail until after they've stolen another election.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=O0cxSJwG9Q0 - Tangaroa, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15Business provides an alternate incentive. The businesses that make the vote-rigging (ahem, excuse me) vote-counting machines are run by people who donate heavily to the Republicans. Any certification tests or whatnot that delay or interfere with their ability to sell the machines and associated service will be bad for the business, as would be the prospect that any of the machines fail testing. There is also the Republican party's blind faith in capitalism to provide the fairest and highest quality products and services despite all historical evidence that pure capitalism results in a few concentrations of power screwing the rest of society as much as they can get away with while producing products and services that cut quality to save money. Any kind of regulation such as "let's make sure that the things do what the company that sold them said they would do" looks like evil COMMIE SOCIALISM to the Republicans, so they stand against it.
- VitriolAndAngst, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15Hey, the people who keep getting elected despite massive corruption seem to like it... whatever could be wrong?
- Rsulliv1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13I believe you, but add a citation in there to avoid all the people that will doubt.
- SelfAbortion, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13Election rigging isn't very funny...
- lepton, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10I'm not a conspiracy theorist. But good grief, the election process is the bedrock of this country. Can we make sure it is at least as secure as the cash registers at McDonald's? Seriously, the integrity of our electronic voting system should be a shining example of technology and democracy. The current situation is a disgrace. Many of these machines are made by the same folks who make ATMs. These guys KNOW how to make rock solid secure devices... So do it.
- StarlessKnight, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10What's that quaint saying? If you have nothing to hide... If the voting machines are fine, than an investigation will only support your argument. If, however, they are faulty, then obviously an investigation would be a very, very bad thing for the company involved, prior elections (fuel to a fire), and future elections.
- mithrasinvictus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Why attack the source? can't you disprove the story?
Even fox news shows real news occasionally. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9whoop de do. you will only be choosing between:
1> an ***** who is working for corporate interests
2> an asshat who is working for corporate interests
there is no "i prefer not to vote for an ***** who is working for corporate interests" option - sazerac, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10Hear Hear!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7You sillies. There's not even going to be an election in 2008.
- ZenMojo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7The fact that the Attorney General of Florida was in bed with Diebold and served on their board and so eagerly acted to stop the recount in 2000? Noooo. The fact that Ohio exit polls didn't even vaguely match and voters were turned away at the gates and now Republicans are trying to stop not a RECOUNT but an already-paid-for diagnostic? Yeah, that's a little fishy.
- snotrokit, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7why does none of this ***** surprise me? Maybe I should wait for 2008 for the big surprise.
- SelfAbortion, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Kucinich/Paul 08, bitch.
- StarlessKnight, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5So, what you're saying is if you don't like someone, disagree with them regardless of what they say. Bravo.
- hiphoc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Yea, the heads of the two largest voting machine companies are brothers, the board of directors for all the voting companies are crawling with spooks and ex military people. This ***** is getting creepy. Get ready for voting fraud 2008. The states that need to be swung are being prepped right now. Its time to fight this now people, not November of next year. And please don't wait for the media to step in. They already have their marching orders to push Hillary or Giuliani.
- dcbebop, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I would think the "public" explanation would be because of the costs. But FTA: "Brunner had already set aside the $1.8 million for the test" ... sooooo ... wtf?
Hurray more corruption. I'm so sick of this, I wake up everyday with zero faith in this system. Time for a revolution? - hiphoc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Jesus are you that ***** lazy? You are on a ***** computer. Open a tab and search ohio voter fraud arrests. If it was porn I am sure you would have done a search already. I am sorry to flame you but the country is falling apart and folks still what info handed to them. This is why we are where we are, intellectual laziness. The repubs who set up the vote in Ohio actually got jail time. But you will have to find that yourself.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=JEzY2tnwExs - noahhoward, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6Repubican voter fraud is the new Democrat Gerrymandering. Throw out ll the incumbent politicians and replace them with competent Americans please.
- fixedcoma, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Doesn't surprise me one bit!!!!!!! =====> 0':
- lordmike, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Hello, Pot... meet Mt. Kettle (I am assuming that you are a typical neocon republican) Perhaps you haven't heard AM radio lately... or turned on the news to a certain Rupert Mudoch owned network...
- brufleth, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ken_blackwell#Involvement_in_the_2004_U.S._presidential_election_controversy
I'm horrible with names but I will not forget Ken Blackwell's name. I lived in Ohio in 2004 (Cincinnati aka the red end) and I witnessed first hand the corruption of a presidential election. - LordSlashstab55, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3he attacks because he's in a corner and has nothing to defend himself. Just listen to all these neo-con spammers. They're afraid.
- dcbebop, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Wouldn't it be great if there was a vote for "Leave the office empty". I bet more would get done.
- awesomecards, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3From the Daily Kos article: "Her specific request to the Controlling Board was a waiver for competitive bidding."
In other words, handing a 1.8 million dollar contract to the pet company of her choice. Maybe that's why this "grievous public injustice" occurred. - Thuktun, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You omitted "the government to declare martial law, suspend elections for the safety of the American people, and " right after "causing".
- n00854180t, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2"Iranian" (notice the quotes) terrorists attack [insertjuicytargethere], causing a retaliatory war with Iran. Surprise over!
- Ebacherville, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5RON PAUL
- HaywoodGiablomi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Keep in mind that "voter fraud" is the big meme / talking point pushed by the Repub's. "Election Tampering" is what is being done with the vote "counting" machines. Fraud involves an individual who is ineligible to vote and is a statistical non-event in national elections. Anyone aiming to swing an election would be hard pressed to produce enough ineligible voters on election day to make a difference. Tampering involves hundreds or thousands of votes at a time, regardless of the number of individuals actually showing up at the polls. The Repub's beat the "Voter Fraud" horse to death, however, in an effort to say "Both sides cheat so what's the big deal?"
- khedoros, on 07/31/2009, -1/+3I doubt that they're statically rigged in anyone's favor....they'd probably have to be manipulated separately for each election, if they were modified.
- swiftheart, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4This article is a bit misleading. During the Sept 11 meeting, the Controlling board voted to delay the vote to Sept 24.
http://www.cleveland.com/news/plaindealer/index.ssf?/base/news/1189501201154300.xml&coll=2
While some of the Republicans on the Controlling board are uncomfortable with voting in favor of the authorization, for a variety of reasons, it's not correct to say that they "blocked" it or just plain turned it down. - mickman17, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I am an ohio citizen and this just pisses me off.. I called Brunner's office and was told that the proposal has not been defeated rather a vote was taken to postpone a decision (wtf?) until next week when she will me again with the Ohio State Controlling Board - stay tuned and lets keep our eyes on the damn neocon repubs so they dont steal yet another election. Our damn politicians are ***** corrupt and when they start to pull this ***** its time to take out the trash... If you are from Ohio - please call the office at 18777676446 and tell them that you want to know how you can support Sec. Brunner in getting this proposal passed... Peace Out...
- CLShortFuse, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Seriously, I think they've designed these machines with easy to find loop holes. How much more do you need than a touch screen with a few options? The program is really not that hard to code. You could RSA 1024bit ecrypt a bunch of text files and send it over LAN to a server and that'd work. It's really only going to be maybe 500 bytes of text at most. You don't hear touchscreen ATMs getting hacked.
I could design it and sell it to them for the low price of only $5 million dollars. And you know they've spent much more than that for their "secure" voting system. - dcbebop, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Not if people take their heads out of their asses and actually pay attention to this election.
- WilliamDavis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2WW 3
- dcbebop, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Or lose your vote in 08 ...
Joke, but seriously, how can any of this ***** be trusted if no one is willing to investigate the problem? Are we really doomed to go back to paper voting? - StarlessKnight, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Buy your W2008 bumper stickers today!
- relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -2/+4Pretty ***** funny, huh?
- brufleth, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ken_blackwell#Involvement_in_the_2004_U.S._presidential_election_controversy
A republican. He didn't just want people to show IDs. He wanted to throw the election. - n00854180t, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'd also be interested in any news of arrests, since I've heard various coverage of the ultra-dodgy Ohio elections, but mum regarding the scum that are responsible facing any sort of consequences.
- thepotatoman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I thought in Colorado there was random inspections, by a third party, that would check the paper recites to the results the computer printed out. Which machines to be checked are determined at random just before the inspection. I feel if something was going on in these elections we would know about it, or they have just been lucky rigging the right machines.
But it seems like they don't have that type of system in Ohio, judging from that programmers testimony. Why else wouldn't you do it? - Timetheos, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Voter fraud is not a real problem. There have been few cases. Election fraud is a large problem, typically perpetrated by Republicans (as evidenced by New Hampshire, etc.)
