- jackelsmack, on 02/05/2008, -6/+119If you like Lawrence Lessig here's another great reason to support Obama's campaign: They went directly to Lessig with their technology policy to get his feedback. This strongly suggests that in an Obama administration, Lessig or Lessig-minded people would be in charge of federal technology policy. Us "Internet Culture" people have been wandering in the wilderness this whole time, and in 2009 we could be *running* federal policy. Now that's something to hope for!
- abburdlen, on 02/05/2008, -1/+44It's endorsements like this that actually mean something to me.
- brickbat, on 02/05/2008, -0/+42To those people that don't know who Lessig is, don't worry - It's not your fault. The less you know about him ,the better the job he is doing. He is protecting your internet freedom. He is a key driver of both the Creative Commons and The Electronic Frontier Foundation - two of the most important organisations protecting freedom on the internet. We all owe a lot to Lessig and HIS moral courage even though most of us have never heard of him. I have to admit that this president and his illegal activities with the telecoms have really set things back a lot but don't expect anyone other than Lessig and the EFF to take action to hold them accountable.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lawrence_Lessig - gamasutra, on 02/05/2008, -2/+37Hillary is the democratic version of Karl Rove in a pantsuit. She plays politics as well as anyone and swiftboats her opponents. I don't trust her to make the right judgment and stand up for principle even when it is not the popular thing to do - as was the case with Iraq. Her pandering to lobbyists is just the final straw that broke the camels back.
- shazam, on 02/05/2008, -1/+31Deeply thoughtful analysis on the differences between Hillary and Barack, as well as good examples of "Rovean" tactics as recently employed by the Clinton team. Lessig is as lucid as ever and here, I daresay, inspirational.
- omega6, on 02/05/2008, -0/+20C'mon man. The internet is your friend. Before posting a silly question look on google or wikipedia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lawrence_Lessig - metasj, on 02/05/2008, -2/+22A literate and articulate populace always has some power to guide policy, but you're right, this would be quite a change.
- phr33ksho, on 02/05/2008, -3/+21He is so well spoken, and clearly very intelligent. I always love reading Lessig's essays, and this is as good as anything he has done. I wish this video could be shown on major news / tv networks, show this to any Hillary supporters!
- jamesalfaro, on 02/05/2008, -7/+23Obama truly inspires people to want to see real change in Washington and abroad. I believe he is the only candidate that can unite the Democrats and Republicans to end the decades of corruption and dirty politics we have seen in the Bush/Clinton era.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lawrence_Lessig - TheBogie, on 02/05/2008, -1/+10Hilliary is ambitious to the point of shamelessness. How anyone can't see directly through her facade is beyond me. It surprises me that even one person in a poll would say they would vote for her.
Obama is a remarkable speaker. Hilliary speaks like a robot, and she simply CAN'T go off of her script. She won't give an interview unless the questions are given to her ahead of time. - popabawa, on 02/05/2008, -2/+11Breaking news: Your grammar and punctuation skills are terrible and your 'Caps Lock' key appears to be stuck.

I wasn't going to go vote today because I didn't care which canidate won the nomination, I figured they would both do a "fine" job. Now after watching this; I'll be hittin' up the polls this afternoon!

no gulf between the candidates on technology policies, but big differences in fairplay and sense of honour - mochaman, on 02/05/2008, -1/+6OK you got the message and it is pretty clear, I sure don't have any doubts in my mind. Don't be cynical and don't take this for granted. GO VOTE!!!
- marillion, on 02/05/2008, -0/+4Obama/Lessig 2008
- AlKo, on 02/05/2008, -1/+5Ideally, we would see an end to the department of Homeland "Security"...
- Refrag, on 02/07/2008, -0/+4Exactly how do you think they'd run the country further into debt?
Just extracting ourselves from Iraq would go a very long way to putting our budget back on track. I certainly don't see any indication that the people Keane mentioned would not be able to balance our budget. - inactive, on 02/05/2008, -3/+7corporate america: the victor of every u.s. election.
the loser: the american people - Ranvier, on 02/05/2008, -0/+3Obama wants to up the Technology officer to a cabinet position. So you'd have to add that into the "dream team."
- sotloo, on 02/05/2008, -1/+4http://origin.barackobama.com/pdf/
- sotloo, on 02/05/2008, -0/+3You are correct, little difference in their arguments during debate yes but their platforms are certainly quite different
- bjs3171, on 02/05/2008, -1/+4who, Lessig?
- jsebrech, on 02/05/2008, -0/+3If you google for "why I support hillary", you can find some explanations of the thinking behind it. Mostly it boils down to (a) she's a woman, or (b), she's the "safe" choice (where safe is defined as veteran politician, or predictable policy-wise). I can understand why people would chose (b).
The way I see it, the choice between clinton and obama is a choice between safety and hope. With Clinton, you know today what her policy for her entire term will be like; and that can be a safety blanket for people. With obama, the future is less certain, but you do know that unlike Clinton he represents a chance for fundamental change, and that taps into the hope of a lot of people for the possibility of a new dawn for america. - Fordi, on 02/06/2008, -0/+3TED talk: http://www.ted.com/talks/view/id/187
- werddrew, on 02/05/2008, -0/+3I went on my facebook, found all of the Hillary "fans" I could find and posted it on their wall. Not as an insult, but as a genuine, "please take a look at this and hit me up with your thoughts."
- protogenxl, on 02/05/2008, -0/+2I look at this way if Hillary does get elected america will finally get their own Thatcher.
- norsurfit, on 02/05/2008, -0/+2Lawrence Lessig is a very well known constitutional law and cyberlaw professor at Stanford Law School.
He has been very influential in changing ideas about expanding copyright laws, and opposing subtle government corruption.
Here's his Stanford Law School profile: http://www.law.stanford.edu/directory/profile/39/ - Yatata, on 02/06/2008, -0/+2I have a prediction:
there will be a "terrorist attack" or other kind of national disaster on the united states this year, the white house will declare marshal law, blackwater will be deployed in the streets to "maintain order", the elections will be canceled, and the US will discover that while they were watching american idol, their government was methodically working through the 10 steps to transform democracy to fascism.
don't believe me?

- motivatedmama, on 04/01/2008, -0/+2A little study is in order. Obama not only strongly supports education (he is a Professor after all) http://www.barackobama.com/issues/education/
but he has outlined many ways to improve in all the areas you mentioned. What amazed me in reading T.A.O.H. was that before Obama takes on revamping a program or initiating a new one, he looks to see which programs can be streamlined to generate the funds. The FIRST thing he asks is, where will the money come from? And is that so surprising? This is a very intelligent and strongly principled man. He does not just throw out ideas that he thinks the public will gobble up. No, he has already walked through the creation, funding and red tape issues in his head. - michaelb1, on 02/05/2008, -3/+5Dugg for perfect trifecta of geekdom

(Bonus- excellent use of Apple Keynote) - jhails, on 02/05/2008, -0/+2The the real crying game begin!!!! Vote Obama!!!!!!!
- bosssmiley, on 02/05/2008, -0/+2Mr Lessig's book on modern abuse of copyright law. Great sections on "The Steamboat Willie Line" and on how the Founding Fathers understood that IP != concrete property.
http://www.free-culture.cc/ - humanerror, on 04/03/2008, -1/+3By the way, I am a fan of Lawrence Lessig, but I hate his presentation style. In particular, the "policies r good" stuff. It just grates on me.
- jkbowman, on 02/05/2008, -1/+3This is great for today and after today. Let's get this spread around.
- JavanSClark, on 02/05/2008, -1/+3Rtard. QQ more. The world isn't coming to an end and the sky isn't falling.
- ambiguus, on 02/05/2008, -0/+2It's called the Lessig method and has gone over well in many settings. It's useful when you treat your presentations as a visual highlighter for your talk. It's not my cup of tea, but I think it can still be very effective.
- babar77, on 02/05/2008, -0/+2As opposed to the wage slavery that happened with a small government and free market in the late 1800s? There needs to be balance. We can't have a completely socialist state where everything is given to us, but completely free unregulated markets is not the answer either.
- Fordi, on 02/06/2008, -0/+2I know he is respected in technical circles as a lucid character. I've seen a couple of his videos (including his TED speech), and generally think the man is brilliant.
In short, no, he was never on American Idol. I'm ashamed that things of that nature are required for you to respect someone else's thoughts. - FatLoser, on 02/06/2008, -0/+2Hilldabeast
