Damaging McCain Comments Missing from FOX News Transcript
jedreport.com — Three months ago, John McCain told Sean Hannity that he "really didn't love America" until became a POW. FOX has scrubbed that part of the interview from their official transcript on their website.

- jabberwolf, on 06/22/2008, -8/+3Um educated internet users?
You mean the ones that believe in conspiracy theories and make half assed comments with no comparisons, no facts, no sources, just opinion?
Maybe the ones that are busy with a real life, and really working, are the ones that are really educated.
And not Digg knee jerkers.- thirdcoastborn, on 06/22/2008, -1/+8why are you here. you make fun of digg and people on digg yet you took the time to sign up, add some friends and make stupid comments everywhere just like everybody else.
- Definition, on 06/22/2008, -0/+1I did that a few years ago.
Does that mean I'm uneducated? Or wasting some time here and there.- Papajohn56, on 06/22/2008, -0/+1it means you fell for adding charges to your bill lol
- jabberwolf, on 06/22/2008, -8/+3Um educated internet users?
- RRJackson, on 06/21/2008, -4/+9Yeah, 'cause your comment just reached what? Maybe a thousand people? Damn the man! Fox News may reach 6-8 million viewers daily, but angry guys on the Internet are so much more committed to their message that it evens out. OK, not really.
- hnsez, on 06/21/2008, -7/+6McCain didn't love America... until he was tortured into it. There are no athiests in foxholes either.
- scot333, on 06/22/2008, -1/+2foxholes? are you a furry lovr?
- jemman, on 06/22/2008, -1/+1Pat Tillman was a atheist.
- SwedishNinja, on 06/21/2008, -4/+5Yeah, remember when the Internet got behind Ron Paul?
All that "grassroots" support that Howard Dean had back in 2004? Remember that? Yeah, the "YYAAAAARRGHHHHH" guy?- Definition, on 06/22/2008, -1/+2I remember him well, he's the man.
- jemman, on 06/22/2008, -2/+2Because of his Internet support Ron Paul became a household name, and Howard Dean's internet strategy became the basis of Obama's fundraising machine. So yeah, Internet movements do matter. They may not be everything that's needed for a successful run for office, but they can help.
- jabberwolf, on 06/22/2008, -11/+3Um Are you guys ALWAYS this retarded?
I mean really? Could you possibly compare the 2 in their situations?
Lets try:
Michelle.. making large 6 digit figures, married to a Senator - just then realizing shes proud.
Mccain - serving his country, a POW, tortured, realizing he not just likes but "loves" is country.
One shows that she doesnt know what she has, even when shes riding high, the other realizing what they have in a country, even when hes a POW and tortured in a foreign land.
YEAH IS THATS A GOOD COMPARISON to make and argue about?!!!
Seriously, so I ask again... are you guys ALWAYS this retarded?- egoideal, on 06/22/2008, -1/+5So you're saying it's all about money? Michelle Obama was rich, therefore she must have had it great. I do not get why such a materialistic party has such a large number of religious constituents. Oh wait, now I remember, it's because they're frauds.
- migatikon, on 06/22/2008, -1/+0Explain why Americans must always be 'proud' of their country. I think the people and their elected officials must earn my respect and pride. I think the lack of pride in some (probably many) Americans helps to drive positive change. I agree that the statement Mrs. Obama made was poorly conceived, but I do not agree that it implies she is an ingrate, or a 'bad' citizen, nor do I think it reflects anything about her status as a privileged upper-class woman.
It's also possible that we need to empathize a little more given she's a black woman. She may have experienced a great deal of what our country offers in the form of institutionalized racism and sexism, and it may have impacted her ability to feel nationalistic at all.
If you do believe that pride is a necessary attribute in a 'good' citizen, you should applaud her finding her pride now, even if it took longer than you feel it should have. - foontala, on 06/22/2008, -0/+3"I say it's time to debate foreign policy and why we don't follow the Constitution"
-- Ron Paul - Bith8654, on 06/22/2008, -1/+1Uh I'm pretty sure Michelle Obama isn't the one running for president.
- Mononuclear, on 06/22/2008, -1/+1I love this country... doesn't mean I am always proud of it or the things it does. I love my kids.. doesn't mean that I am always proud of them or some of the choices they make.
You can love something and not be proud of it.
I am sick of people questioning the patriotism of others because they aren't proud of the current state of our nation, because they don't support the current administration or they disagree with the war in Iraq.
This whole "I love this country more than you" is the most retarded thing I have ever seen.
- Definition, on 06/22/2008, -0/+1Grassroots, gotta love 'em.
- withears, on 06/22/2008, -2/+2I like the fact that while Fox got away with this ***** in 2000 and 2004, it's not happening this year.
TERRORIST FIST JAB! - Evie1851, on 06/22/2008, -2/+1Bottom line-
( I actually started to type that McCain isn't ALL bad but when I thought about what arguments I could use to show that opinion..I couldn't come up with any. minus points for McCain for being a giant douche.)
They both have some good ideas. Obama has a lot more than McCain....though...
HOWEVER, what people care the most about, is PEOPLE. McCain has repeatedly showed himself to be an ignorant bigot and the things he has said ( for example): "we should be able to deliver bottled hot water to dehydrated babies"- and now this new thing, ( i didnt love america until i was parted from her company) just makes him look like a bigger moron.
Obama will win because he has the love and support of the people. That is the difference between McCain and Obama. Obama wants change, he seems to genuinely care about his country, and he makes me proud to BE an american, truly. He inspires me. McCain just makes me want to run to a corner and cry...lol
I worry that Obama will try and turn us in to a nanny state. This is concerning. However, I see him as an honest man, and I truly believe he wants what's best for his country, for his people. For that reason alone, I would stand by any decision he makes.
McCain is the guy who supports the rich citizens of this country. I have nothing else to say...about McCain..>.<
Not even when I TRY to be neutral...can I be..lol - pitlord, on 06/22/2008, -1/+1Liberals bring up this comment by McCain just so they can revive the smoke and mirrors of "controversy" surrounding Michelle Obama's comments. Then, in a few weeks they will point back to this "scandal" and say, "look the conservatives wouldn't stop talking about Michelle's comments the media kept bringing it up."

- redcolumbine, on 06/20/2008, -11/+41America's Mr. Clean strikes again!
- IrishJoe, on 06/20/2008, -10/+70In another public event lately McCain said that it’s hard to be proud of America. The Corporate MSM was silent on this, but keep harping on Michelle Obama saying for the first time she’s really proud of America meaning she’s been proud before but this takes it to a higher level. Even McCain’s wife has this week smeared Obama’s wife over that comment despite the fact that McCain had already said it was hard to be proud of America and three months ago said that he really didn’t love America until the 1960s. Liberal media? I think not!
- franklymister, on 06/21/2008, -1/+32They also smear Michelle Obama by misquoting her, and removing out the word "really."
It's the same kind of lies they've been using ever since Lee Atwater taught them the game in the '70s. Repeat a lie often enough, and anyone who isn't paying attention (read: most of the public) will think it's true.
Al Gore never said the sentence "I invented the internet," but the Republicans managed to turn that one into a downright meme.
Don't let them do that again.- dirTdogE, on 06/21/2008, -3/+3For no other purpose than to inform you:
She said it (at least) twice. The first time she said "For the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country" (unknown time supposedly in the morning, 2/18/08), the second time she said "For the first time in my adult lifetime, I'm really proud of my country." (4:13 ET, 2/18/08)
Whether the change of words has any implications or whether the choice by media outlets to favor one version over the other has implications, I'll leave to you.- charm803, on 06/21/2008, -0/+3For the first time since I've been able to vote, I still haven't been proud of Bush! And that reflects our country, unjust, but it does.
I'm not proud of going to war with Iraq, especially because my brother was shipped out and I know 3 people that passed away because of the war.
So, ever since MY ADULT LIFE, I am also, proud for the first time of my country-but more so because finally Bush & friends are (almost) getting thrown under the bus by Kucinich and McLennan are standing up to this war monger.

- FrankHope, on 06/20/2008, -8/+70Fox News is part of the Rupert Murdoch media empire that was created during the Reagan years through special exceptions granted by the FCC. It has been instrumental in the conservative shift in the US media. Fox News specifically was created to counter CNN which was at the time much more objective than it is today.
- Dumbledorito, on 06/21/2008, -2/+12CNN was at its best when it was an AP wire / headline news channel. It just covered breaking stuff, had no "shows" other than "what's going on right now, here's our correspondant or someone we contract with" information. It was a kind of index to the news that you watched, and anything that caught your attention you looked up more in-depth stuff from print or internet sources later.
But cable news has now become a 24/7 shoutfest with little actual news in it.- jahurt, on 06/21/2008, -0/+4I've actually heard that CNN International is still pretty good. Can anyone outside the US confirm or deny?

- DuggDowner, on 06/21/2008, -13/+70John McCain didn't really love America until his Manchurian captors programmed him to.
- midriscoll09, on 06/21/2008, -3/+6I don't see what is so wrong with his comment. In all honesty, many of us would probably feel the same way if we experienced what he went through. He's saying that he truly didn't realize how great America is until he was forced to suffer in another country. His despair made him love America because here he was allowed freedoms which are nonexistant in most countries. He's being honest, that's all you can ask for. It's ***** that fox news is censoring him, but it's also ***** that people are mad at his comment.

But when you're making 6 digit figures, married to a senator, you should probably be sitting high enough to be proud already.
But then again I dont think Michelle or Obama ever served their country in the military to have such an experience. - Vessol, on 06/22/2008, -1/+2LMAO.

"Oh its the liberal medias fault". Liberal my ass they still don't put enough emphasis on the fact that the WAR WAS BASED ON LIES and has resulted in the deaths of by some estimates over a million Iraqi and 4000+ Americans all so halliburton/kbr can bleed the tax payers dry. Oh yeah Im really proud of my government great job!

- dexter411, on 06/22/2008, -1/+3I think the difference people see (though I could care less) is that McCain said that only when he was deprived of liberty did he appreciate it. Obama basically said that she wasn't proud of her country until her husband had political success.

- pintomp3, on 06/21/2008, -1/+6true, but if it's fair to make an issue out of michelle obama's comment or barack's lapel pin why not this?
- Terr01, on 06/21/2008, -1/+6The point is NOT that those comments are significant.
The point is that for people who THINK they are significant, those people are not applying their standard evenly.
The goal is to get those people to either (A) drop their silly standard of significance or (B) apply it equally.- jedreport, on 06/21/2008, -0/+5exactly. glass houses. let's talk about important stuff. let's debate the surge, offshore drilling, tax policy, health care, globabl warming, etc.

- tailfly, on 06/22/2008, -0/+6Why are so many people missing the point of this? It isn't about how bad the comments are, but that it is an entirely innocent/ irrelevant remark. This shows that Obama should never have been attacked, not that McCain should be attacked too. And the only purpose for fox news to remove the quote is so that they can continue to criticise Obama for the near-identical remarks made by McCain.
- sylvok, on 06/21/2008, -11/+12Free ride McBush, looks like we have to go out into the world and tell people whats going on because the MSM sure isnt going to.

- Raphae1, on 06/22/2008, -1/+2Fox is even the most viewed news network in the US.
http://tvbythenumbers.com/category/top-news - desertDenizen, on 06/22/2008, -0/+2Fox isn't news. It's editorial, entertainment, and chest-thumping for several very specific segments of Americans: The uneducated, stupid, intolerant, afraid, and mean.
(As in 5 different groups, with plenty of overlap.)
Once I began to see things in these clear terms several years ago, I began to systematically disengage from people whom I know to watch Fox News, even if I otherwise had no problem with them, to marginalize their economic and societal relevance, in my own small way (which adds up if a lot of people do it). For instance, I probably get 3-4 emails a month from friends looking for a vendor or to fill an executive role in their company, etc. Do I ever pass along the names of the Fox people? Never. So now they suffer from one of the most brilliant forms of discrimination: the kind they don't even know affects them. They don't even know they've been passed over. I see them as dangerous and needing to have their economic and societal influence clipped.- Raphae1, on 06/22/2008, -0/+1I'd rather hurt their advertisers than the people who watch them.

- JimmySpaza, on 06/21/2008, -27/+10That article and the enclosed video sounds like a Democratic-scripted media campaign against McCain's candidacy.
I'm not saying that McCain didn't say such things or that his comments were taken out of context. Now do I support McCain for president. I'm just saying that, if the Democrats were going to buy air time and media coverage for a damage control/response campaign, this article and accompanying video is a great way to do it.
Thus, I wonder if the Democratic Party was not pulling MSNBC's strings here and working with the JedReport.
For the sake of objectivity and fairness, I wonder if the JedReport and MSNBC covered Michelle Obama's comments the same way.
...you know that they didn't.- laserdog, on 06/21/2008, -3/+15So, you're concerned that MSNBC is showing a bias by reporting on FOX's obvious bias?
- pitlord, on 06/22/2008, -1/+1ROFLMAO!
MSNBC is so far to the left, even NPR thinks they are socialist!

- freaky2k, on 06/21/2008, -2/+8You fail to realize that MSNBC is NOT reporting what McCain said to say what he said was wrong/right. They are reporting it because of the Right wing are acting as if what Michelle Obama said was Wrong...which would mean what McCain said is wrong. Really, neither was wrong. So FOX would be the only one being bias. MSNBC is just pointing out a hypocritical comments.
- pitlord, on 06/22/2008, -1/+1What Michelle Obama said was not wrong, it was an accurate expression of her feelings for America. She told us that she had never even been "proud" (no mention of "love" from her) of America UNTIL her husband won enough primaries to be considered a viable candidate for President of the U.S.
-_-
If you don't see anything wrong with that, then you don't deserve to live here.

-_-
Regular Americans can actually sympathize with John McCain's words about how he realized how much he loved his country when, throughout all of his horrific tortures, the most painful thing he experienced was his longing for America.
(8^D
I know you left-wing, socialist, fascists will never understand what that means, but for MOST Americans it is a prime example of a true patriot and just one MORE reason why we WILL VOTE MCCAIN 2008!
- pitlord, on 06/22/2008, -1/+1Yes we read the article and we all understand that "you don't know what you've got til it's gone."
- biotch, on 06/21/2008, -2/+4I dont know if they covered the michelle comments as much except enough to say that it was an attack being leveled upon her. But a larger story would be how and why the GOP had no ground to lay those attacks. The hypocrisy in decrying michelle's irrelevant comments is a bigger story. No one is attacking McCain's patriotism for explaining how he came to love America, the story is now about the GOP for trying to conjure up dissent over an "issue" which they themselves now face..... of course it will not deter them from there own candidate.
- pitlord, on 06/22/2008, -1/+1It is not an attack to report that a Presidential Candidate's wife announced in a public speech that she wasn't really "proud" of the very country her husband would-be ruler of, until he won enough primaries to be considered a viable candidate.
-_-
Call me craxy, but that is news and I would expect ANY American voter would be VERY interested to know how the candidate's families feel about our country.

Fox news is a network who we trust for accurate unbiased information... well, we SHOULD be able to.
And the far left diggs that hit this site arent a result of the people who run digg, they are result of a high concentration of educated/young/internet addicts who happen to be liberal, and many to a fault. Resulting in a lot of opinion pieces making it to the top of Digg like they were fact and making digg -appear- to be fox news. lol- bjornski, on 06/22/2008, -0/+2Well said.
- duckyinc, on 06/22/2008, -0/+2Much like how fox news is full of republicans hence influenced by that.. (I'm not even American)

- RSD31, on 06/21/2008, -5/+1Why are you getting dugg down? Other than Ron Paul-itis when it was trendy, that sounds about accurate.

Are you truly that stupid?- duckyinc, on 06/22/2008, -1/+1What's the difference? Fox new cut something out, digg cuts something out. Both are biased towards either side. - trogdoor, on 06/22/2008, -0/+3Anyone who trusts in the 'word' of Digg should probably not be voting.
- bjornski, on 06/22/2008, -1/+1Digg is not the originator of the news stories.

They don't have "journalists" writing the stories to be published under their own name as "news".

- planet87, on 06/21/2008, -16/+6There really is no comparison between Michelle and McCain's statements.
McCain's didn't appreciate America when he was young... (not to mention in a stupid war, being run by politicians instead of generals).
Michelle is well into her 40's and is supposed to be a grown up... but she is so narcisstic that only if the country elects her husband can she be so proud of it.
98% of the people commenting on this board are so blinded they couldn't spot pro-Marxist bias if it poked them in the eye.- HappyScrappy, on 06/21/2008, -3/+3She was speaking of a love for America, not about pride in America.
Pro-Marxist bias? Is Marxism the big issue right now?- planet87, on 06/21/2008, -3/+1Socialism is probably a better word but not nearly as provocative. "Liberal" is certainly not the proper term for what the democratic party is becoming.
Vote Liberterian... Bob Barr 2008
Love/Pride... what difference does that make.- HappyScrappy, on 06/21/2008, -1/+5Socialism itself isn't something to be afraid of. Caring for your fellow man is a virtue.

- ricky125, on 06/21/2008, -0/+3How young was McCain? I think is was in his 30's.
- migatikon, on 06/22/2008, -0/+0Mr. McCain is 'McCain' and Mrs. Obama is 'Michelle'? Typical of a lean towards the objectification or the subjugation of women; it's a sexist bias. And she's narcissistic, too? In what way is she narcissistic? How has she demonstrated this?
And besides all this inconsequential banter, neither statement was 'wrong' or 'bad'. They're both being thrown around by the media as ad hominem attacks and are not useful to the people to judge the candidates. I think Mrs. Obama's words were taken out of context anyway. She was speaking of pride in the political process.
I find it much more disturbing that Mrs. McCain chose to smear Mrs. Obama with such malice than that Mrs. Obama caused people to question the level of her baseless nationalism.

- pgm8705, on 06/21/2008, -10/+8so you mean to tell me that a person felt a certain way(a long time ago) and then a life changing event made him feel a different way? What a terrible man. I'm glad the digg community is here to expose such despicable acts.
- BlacklabelSAR, on 06/21/2008, -1/+7Way to miss the point. This is about ethics and censorship. McCain's and Michelle Obama's comments are being compared because neither was a big deal but Michelle Obama is being criticized by the MSM whereas McCain's was not. - CRKramer, on 06/21/2008, -2/+10I don't like FOX news, and I also like Obama more than McCain, but I don't see how this is a very big deal at all. As far as I can tell it just means he didn't appreciate America when he was young, but being a POW changed his perspective (the implication being changed for the better).
Also I think that Michelle Obama didn't mean exactly what she said. I think she meant that her pride was revitalized, but just worded it wrong. Even if not, she did say "in my adult lifetime", which means that she could have seen the country fall into a slump that it is just coming out of.
But regardless I think that the bickering here is petty.- sevenvt, on 06/21/2008, -7/+4You'll get negative diggs for not following the hate-mccain-at-every-chance-on-ever-comment mentality, but honestly, you are soooo very correct.

- rebotfc, on 06/22/2008, -0/+2CRKramer you are missing the point, Most people here would agree with McCain about not loving something until you lose it. What people are angry at is
(1) Fox news DOCTORING a record of events.
(2) Right wing nutjobs attacking michelle obama for saying something that isnt as 'extreme' as what McCain said.
- MasteRR, on 06/21/2008, -8/+14Fair and Balanced.... *****.
- goes211, on 06/21/2008, -11/+2I don't understand why the Obama-ite's keep bringing this looser up. Michelle's statement was very poor and easy for the opposition to spin. Too try and spin McCain's statement into something approximately equivalent can only be done if a person does not understand the English language.
Take your lumps on Michelle's statement and move on.
As for the FNC transcript, is anyone surprised? At the beginning of the transcript is states:
This is a rush transcript from "Hannity & Colmes," March 13, 2008.
This copy may not be in its final form and may be updated.
This allows them to spin and yet later claim it was all part of a rush that they never bothered to correct.
Just remember that FNC is not a mouthpiece for all Republicans, just Bush and his Neo-con friends. True limited government Goldwater conservatives are treated with complete contempt. - sevenvt, on 06/21/2008, -9/+5Ok, I am one of the hated/loved liberals on this site, for the most part.... but I dont see that statement as damaging. Someone saying " I really did love kids until I had some of my own" doesnt mean they use to beat children or hate them. This comment is just being taken out of context by someone with way too much time on their hands... buried.

- sevenvt, on 06/21/2008, -1/+1and you already got negative digged for agreeing, i cant tell who is doing it more though, the right or the left. such sillyness.
- pintomp3, on 06/21/2008, -1/+6if it wasn't so bad, why hide it? if fox news was truly fair and balanced, they would run it repeated the way michelle obama's comment.
- sevenvt, on 06/21/2008, -0/+1I am sure you believe it, but i dont care what fox news buries because I already know they are biased, which makes this NOT news already. obviously we all know about it and I still think both michelle obamas and mccains comments were taken out of context. If you dislike/distrust fox news for who they are, I am totally in agreement, but just to stick it to mccain just because theyd do it to obama, isnt a mature nor informed thing to do.
- migatikon, on 06/22/2008, -0/+0Why is this comment dugg down? This is an excellent analogy which can be used by both (unfairly) bashed poorly-though-comment-makers' defenders to expose the silliness of this whole issue.

This is an anti-FOX thread, not a pro/anti candidate thread. - mal1964, on 06/22/2008, -0/+1@bjornski
The word McCain 10 times
The word Fox 8 times

- visitmyblogplz, on 06/22/2008, -0/+1If Fox and McCain are "Facist" then network news and Obama are Communist.
Go ahead and bury me.
- mal1964, on 06/21/2008, -3/+3"So ***** what?"
- supermanred, on 06/21/2008, -1/+5Yeah it's okay for a national news organization to lie when it serves their purpose.
- Eric3k, on 06/21/2008, -4/+3I really don't see a comparison of the two comments. McCain found appreciation for America in his service to it and Mrs. Obama found hers when the US served her interests. I am not sure why McCain or anyone else finds his comment to be worrisome at all. That he found a way to find captivity as a POW a positive thing seems to be good rather than bad. Michelle's comment was in need of explanation no doubt.
- crowbar77, on 06/21/2008, -9/+4Wow, this is worse than the Obama flag pin stories. Buried.
- convergent, on 06/21/2008, -2/+7We hear so many stories about this happening...you'd think someone would do something about it.
Oh who am I kidding? - CiceroLegume, on 06/21/2008, -4/+8So what comes of things like this? I feel like Fox feeds everybody *****, but never really feels any backlash from it. About time for that to change?
- denizen42, on 06/21/2008, -1/+5Thats partly because the internet now gives many truthseekers the impression that they're achieving something of their goals, when in fact they are not. Thus, undeserved power remains strongly in the hands of a few reptilian psychopaths, and another casual day goes by, in the neocon kleptocracy.
- supermanred, on 06/21/2008, -3/+14FOX News is disgusting. Any Religion that is based on morals should preach to their congregations to boycott that propaganda machine of evil.
- neosinn, on 06/22/2008, -1/+2Fox has been going down hill, I couldn't believe what they did to ron paul.
