Israel is still on its path to democracy. Israel Jews are keeping their political power by restricting the growth of Israeli Arab population. If Palestinians were granted Israeli citizenship (Yes, lots of Palestinians would like to be Israeli citizens). then Israeli politics will change dramatically. In that regard, it may not even be a good idea to have a real democracy in Israel.
Mideast democracy is also not something which is in the true interest of Israel and it's Western allies. If the pro-US Arab monarchies are replaced by democracy, some if not most of them will turn into theocracies. That's hardly something which anyone (other than crazy mullahs) would want. Now, the real irony with democracy in the Mideast is that Israel attacked Lebanon, the only other Democratic nation in the region. - The_Dude, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Here's the thing.
