- racketboy, on 12/17/2007, -0/+38The PS2 might be right up there with the NES as having one of the most successful lifespans.
I'm sure there will still be a few gems showing up on the PS2 in 2008.
(And this is coming from a guy that has little interest in Sony hardware) - minoss, on 12/17/2007, -0/+19The PS2 is still selling tons of hardware units despite having the largest install base out there. That alone says it's not dead. Not everyone is willing to spend $400+ on a new system plus an HDTV while simultaneously tossing their current library.
- robinator08, on 12/17/2007, -2/+18The PS2 is not dead, and it is a mistake for Sony to drop backwards compatibility for it in the PS3.
- racketboy, on 12/17/2007, -1/+15Look how long it took for the Dreamcast to die (not sure if it is quite done yet) -- I'm sure the PS2 will take much longer.
- PresidentSoup, on 12/17/2007, -0/+11Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law?
- postalblowfish7, on 12/17/2007, -1/+10dugg for phantasy star.
- krazykor, on 12/17/2007, -0/+9I think he was implying just how good that game is.
- superkendall, on 12/17/2007, -2/+11That was way too RPG heavy it seemed. I like RPGs and all, but that was a bit much...
- savethemooses, on 12/17/2007, -0/+8All I have is a PS2. I could buy a newer console, but it's a very low priority. I'm glad that Sony isn't completely leaving PS2 in the dust.
- berfmurret, on 12/17/2007, -0/+8ps2 is my fav console for sure. katamari damacy and shadow of the colossus are both in my top 5 fav games ever made.
- bjkrautk, on 12/17/2007, -1/+9Dugg for Persona 3 (even if the author misses a plot point - It's the Seniors' graduation @ endgame, not the main character's.)
- joehobbes, on 12/17/2007, -0/+7Doesn't every major console have those.
Heck, even the NES had stuff like that back then.... - Nobi-Wan, on 12/17/2007, -4/+11Yeah but the Digg title clearly states "Best PS2 Games of 2007."
The game comes out tomorrow. Last I checked my calendar it's still 2007. - inactive, on 12/17/2007, -1/+7It better ***** include Persona 3, that series deserves so much more credit then it receives.
- Stemnin, on 12/17/2007, -1/+6Phantasy Star IV is one of my favorite games, prob going to get dugg down, but I loved it more than FFVII and Chrono Trigger (those games were awesome too!)
- Spamcan, on 12/17/2007, -0/+5It doesn't come out until next month so it doesn't count, but I'm glad to see I'm not the only one anticipating it's release. It's $10 cheaper then the Wii version too, so theres really no reason not to get it for PS2.
- bahamutxd, on 12/17/2007, -1/+6.. which would explain why I've had mine for 10 years... and it still works!
- KingGoonie, on 12/17/2007, -0/+4Um... they do? Mine didn't... and honestly I never really head of ANY doing that.
- WhereAmI, on 12/17/2007, -0/+4I still Dugg you up but the 40GB model doesn't have any PS2 support, and the 80GB model has support for certain games. So don't go around saying every PS3 doesn't have PS2 support.
- nickj6282, on 12/17/2007, -0/+4Heck yes, I have a launch-day PS2 that still works fine. I noticed that it won't play DVDs all of a sudden, but it works fine for gaming.
- Thorpe, on 12/17/2007, -0/+4Tomb Raider: Anniversary is worth playing. Certainly better than Legend in my opinion.
- robdiggity, on 12/17/2007, -1/+4Still got my original series one Play Station, runs like a top.
- voyvf, on 12/17/2007, -0/+3Which is why I'm glad I got a model that still had the emotion chip intact. There are plenty of sweet but obscure PS2 titles out there that I haven't bought, yet.
- inactive, on 12/17/2007, -1/+4i dunno PSO was great PSU was a let down.
- voyvf, on 12/17/2007, -0/+2The Dreamcast still lives on, in our hearts, and on our emulators.
- Cyber_Akuma, on 12/17/2007, -0/+2Glad to see Odin Sphere getting some recognition.
- JayKeaton, on 12/18/2007, -1/+3The PS2 seriously struggles to make a top 10 for 2007, some of the games in the list are very strange choices for a "top" list, even the multi platform Burnout game. But there are a few gems in there which are exiting enough in themselves.
- AwakeningAZ, on 12/17/2007, -0/+2Not only implying that, but reacting to the incredulous manner that the description contains: "And yes, that includes Persona 3."
- Cyber_Akuma, on 12/17/2007, -0/+2IIRC, those were versions 1 through 4 that had the problem (to put that in perspective, the first slim was a version 11). Unfortunately, I have a version 4 PS2, DVD-based games started taking a while to boot, and CD-ased games need a few tries before they will.
Sony was forced to fix any PS2 with a DRE issue for free. - CRWheeler, on 12/17/2007, -1/+3Persona 3 is PS2 GOTY
- KingGoonie, on 12/17/2007, -0/+1Me too... God of War 2 was the last great PS2 game for me. Though since it has such a great catalogue of games, I've been doing alot of used game purchases... never played Jak & Daxter or Manhunt until this summer for instance... so buying great games I never got around to will keep my ps2 plugged in for a long time (though not played as much as my wii or 360 of course)
- MattnJax, on 12/18/2007, -0/+1Obviously you don't own a PS3 cause there's no way you'd say that. And there are tons of games for the PS3. So many in fact that I don't have time to play them all. I have still yet to buy UT3, orange box, assasins creed, or uncharted, cause i'm still playing Resistance, R&C, and COD4. and with GTA4 and MGS4 coming out I know I'm not gonna have time to play them all. Might want to open you eyes and get your head out of the gutter cause you're missing out on a lot.
- kidal25, on 12/17/2007, -1/+2I have a PS3 but I still love my PS2. Heck, I still have my SNES from when I was 5.
- Myonosken, on 12/18/2007, -1/+2Okami? FFXII?
- Christbait, on 12/18/2007, -0/+1Power? My ass.. it's the games that matter and the PS3 has nothing of good quality except either dull FPS or kiddie games and the PS2 will continue to last until Sony can pull their new console out of the gutter.
- Myonosken, on 12/19/2007, -0/+1Not in Europe. I didn't realise that they were 06 games in NA though
- ELCad, on 12/18/2007, -1/+2wrong year, that would be 06
- s0medantastic, on 12/17/2007, -0/+1Agreed.
- allisonaxe, on 12/18/2007, -0/+1I agree with everything on this list, except maybe burnout and especially tomb raider, because there are a few other hidden gems that probably deserve some recognition. an example, for me, would be Fire Pro Wrestling Returns. I'm not a fan of wrestling, but I can appreciate some video game versions, and the character edit mode for Fire Pro is absolutely amazing: I've spent HOURS just playing with that aspect. there's an amazing amount of options... plus, the game was dirt cheap: $15 new on release week.
- RoloTomasie, on 12/17/2007, -0/+1At least "best" is relative.
- Downtime, on 12/17/2007, -0/+1looks like they ripped that best of logo off of ign.com, now that is lame
- DarkStalker, on 12/17/2007, -3/+3Rock Band is supposed to be released in December and if you look at the list, there is no December listed.
- maley, on 12/17/2007, -1/+1I love and hate Persona 3. I'm @ 66 hours in so far and I don't see the ending in site haha.
- Christbait, on 12/18/2007, -1/+1We all know it's lasted so long because Sony are still trying to get the PS3 out of the mess it's in so why not glean some cash out of the PS2 instead in the meantime.
- flyingmule, on 03/19/2008, -0/+0Agree. Love-hate relationship with that game, though FES fixes a lot of the pacing issues by having more content and higher difficulty.
- Saq78642, on 03/24/2009, -0/+0Can't Wait!
- alcozar, on 04/23/2008, -0/+0God of War 2 is best release on PS2 so far for me, also worth a mention are Silent Hill Origins and Alone in the Dark 5 (due to be released). Still hoping that God of War Chains of Olympus and Metal Gear Portable Ops get PS2 conversions at some point.
- flyingmule, on 03/19/2008, -0/+0Persona 4 probably won't be out until 2009 in the US.
- goatfucker, on 12/17/2007, -1/+1What about GH3?
Maybe the would have added it if it was an RPG... -
