- selfdisplaced, on 07/03/2008, -2/+60Did it say "Hideo" in the upper right corner?
- Sniper, on 07/02/2008, -11/+60Worked fine for me :|
- iPirate, on 07/03/2008, -2/+45It was causing a big enough problem for them to take it offline:
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/07/02/firmware ... - inactive, on 07/03/2008, -0/+39I think you're completely right to wait.
- mweflen, on 07/03/2008, -6/+44To "brick" something is to render it inoperable. Controller sync issues don't seem to rise to that standard. Buried as inaccurate.
- robEstyles, on 07/03/2008, -11/+48Ok I'm a 360 owner myself but jesus enough of the constant PS3 bashing. Anytime you update a firmware for anything you run the risk of "bricking" it (power goes off, something funky happens anything). Unless this is a widespread problem this is a non story.
- nobody98, on 07/02/2008, -4/+36I was just about to update my PS3... Going to wait a couple of days now. Yes I'm a wuss :(
- prleet, on 07/03/2008, -7/+27There is a big difference between crash and bricked. So get that straight first. Buried for drama!
My 60 gb works fine....damn newbs! - WhereAmI, on 07/02/2008, -3/+22If your video signal is blank hold down the power button until it beeps twice. And by power button I mean that sensor thingy on the front, not the switch on the back, but that should be on. Someone here that has that problem try that to see if it fixes anything.
- fadetoone, on 07/03/2008, -3/+22That would be like trading my Corvette for a Pinto because a nail gave me a flat tire.
- santasing, on 07/03/2008, -4/+21and brick your console guaranteed.
- inactive, on 07/03/2008, -1/+18Wow....I was completely oblivious of this problem, otherwise I would not have downloaded this update. Mine seems to be working fine, knock on wood.
- directrix13, on 07/03/2008, -4/+21Yeah, random RROD is much better than a known flaw which is being corrected. har har har
- readme, on 07/03/2008, -11/+27I wouldn't worry much about it. 700+ post thread at the GAF and nobody has had a problem updating to 2.40. It's probably the usual suspects stirring the pot trying to make it out to be worse than what it is.
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=32408 ... - santasing, on 07/03/2008, -1/+16Ummm...not a whole lot of people at those links saying their console got bricked.
- BattleScars, on 07/03/2008, -2/+17Because they never break right?
- WhereAmI, on 07/02/2008, -0/+13No, it then scans for an input and will enable that input. It does work with HDMI. This is the 40GB at least that does it.
- bilbravo, on 07/03/2008, -5/+17RRoD widespread enough for Microsoft to offer a 3 year warranty for it. Nintendo Wii update bricked consoles on launch day.
The point is stuff breaks. Doesn't matter what hardware it is, there can be a fault. - alpha94, on 07/03/2008, -5/+17It's not bricking, the submitter is a douche for using an inaccurate title.
- truspector, on 07/03/2008, -0/+12I think they pulled 2.4 yesterday after the complaints started coming in. At least I got it before hand, and yes, not problems here.
- evanstapler, on 07/03/2008, -9/+21With a PS3 it's more "cinder blocking" than it is bricking.
- readme, on 07/03/2008, -2/+14GAF > *
GAF has a hardcore registration process (takes months to get an account) and anyone even hinting at system warz ***** get an instant perma-ban. Therefore there's little or no chance shills are coming in and making up stories as you would see at the sites you posted. - inactive, on 07/03/2008, -1/+12Does Gizmodo not know what "bricking" means? If it was bricked, it would be more than sync issues. The entire console wouldn't boot and you'd have major issues requiring physical replacements.
- mywhitenoise, on 07/03/2008, -2/+13Does yours?
Grow the ***** up, he wasn't bragging, and his comment is totally relevant to this overblown story. - Duositex, on 07/03/2008, -1/+11They pulled the update already. Old news.
- blablablerg, on 07/03/2008, -1/+11bricks were shat
- mywhitenoise, on 07/03/2008, -1/+11You're so full of *****, dude. You're one of the bigger 360 trolls on digg, don't spread around misinformation.
- jacksons98, on 07/03/2008, -0/+9Yup bricking has been included since day one on X360
- SEGA4life, on 07/02/2008, -4/+13I took these pics just for you with my imaginary camera.
You can see (in the pic) my new 100gigHD I got for free I'm about to install.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v196/SeGa4life/j ... - selfdisplaced, on 07/03/2008, -4/+13Worked fine for me. 20gb upgraded to 160gb.
- captainwtf, on 07/03/2008, -1/+10I'm a PS3, XBOX 360, PC, Wii Fanboy. You should appreciate every system that is out now, instead of bashing it like some immature thirteen year old. Shut the ***** up, I'm really getting sick of it.
My PS3 did screw up, but ***** happens. - shinythingy, on 07/03/2008, -4/+13I believe the problem is actually that the users didn't actually download all of the file (not their fault) and when the PS3 tried to run it, it couldn't find the file and making the HDD corrupt. Reformat the HDD using another PS3 with a different FW or if you can via a PC. It means you lose all your content put at least you have a working PS3.
- inactive, on 07/03/2008, -1/+9No *****, every time you do an update there is a very small risk that it might brick, same thing with the 360, and psp!
- Midou, on 07/03/2008, -1/+9I love how the word brick doesn't mean what it is meant to mean, you can format your hard drive to fix it, or backup your saves before updating to make sure. Bricking is when parts of your 360 melt and you can't use it again.
- inactive, on 07/03/2008, -2/+10Your buddy should swap his hard drive with the one you're pulling and format it, or pull his drive and use a PC to format it. He'll be good to go. This article should be marked as inaccurate, nobody has had a "brick" but some people have had to replace the hard drive. The firmware puts some bad data on some people's hard drives which prevents a proper boot up. The PS3 itself is fine.
- santasing, on 07/03/2008, -1/+9Not really. But I bet yours did after you typed that comment after thinking it up for an hour or something.
- drizzlelicious, on 07/03/2008, -5/+13Which firmware did YOU download?
- humanerror, on 07/03/2008, -0/+7Haha.
"Damnit! The new update slabbed my ps3!" - Destinatus, on 07/03/2008, -1/+8I like the irony of you posting that on digg, like you're doing something better
- santasing, on 07/03/2008, -1/+8Nothing wrong with protecting your investment.
- santasing, on 07/03/2008, -10/+17My 80GB MGS4 bundle PS3 is working fine.
- kenvsryu, on 07/03/2008, -1/+7no problems here either.
- TheGreatBelow, on 07/03/2008, -7/+13I put in a 5 hour session of Virtua Tennis last night, no issues for me.
- davewelsh79, on 07/03/2008, -0/+6I can hear the "usual suspects" now: Why do they call it update 2.4? Because when you see it you turn 2.4 degrees and walk slightly askew.
- StolenLamp, on 07/03/2008, -0/+6...or play it for 5 hours on end?
- Misanthrope, on 07/03/2008, -0/+6Brick implies that it's completely useless and non-repairable. That's not the case here. It IS fixable.
Fixable = NOT BRICK - luckyguy2000, on 07/03/2008, -0/+6:eeek:
no problem with mine though european 40gb version - WELLDOITLIVE, on 07/03/2008, -1/+7He downloaded the memory upgrade, kinda like for the courier's brain in Johnny Mnemonic.
- OrderedChaos, on 07/03/2008, -2/+8No problems here either on a new 80 gig. The only problem with the update is the people who cut off the system during the update under the assumption it had frozen.
- djholybolt, on 07/03/2008, -0/+6You have been buried for making such an idiotic statement.
