- Joest23, on 09/15/2009, -1/+75Wait... This made it to the front page without even knowing what it does yet? I'm as excited as the next PS3 owner, but isn't that a little premature?
- wolfing, on 09/15/2009, -3/+67Go for PS3 also if you don't want to pay an extra $30-$50/year to play online.
- TnTBass, on 09/15/2009, -2/+44The rise of internet journalism - where it matters more to be the first to report on some event, as opposed to getting accurate and useful information.
- barandon0D9, on 09/15/2009, -2/+33Go for the PS3 also if you don't want to buy controller recharge packs, wifi adapters, or overpriced hardrives.
- Topher06, on 09/15/2009, -4/+32Yeah, movies, social networking and the Internet are all no longer relevant these days. You tell 'em!
- Jeremyz0r, on 09/15/2009, -6/+31Where is Ad-Block for Chrome? http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/6508/hmmz.jpg
- cchampion27, on 09/15/2009, -1/+26Says the guy commenting on a story he apparently does not care about.
- INTERNETMASTER, on 09/15/2009, -3/+28go for 360 if you like RROD defective consoles.
- mywhitenoise, on 09/15/2009, -5/+29HEY! I'M NOT JUST PAYING FOR ONLINE! I'M PAYING FOR ADS TOO!
- dmbftp, on 09/15/2009, -0/+22I think you're talking about the what's new setting.
System settings->what's new->turn off - kinseyincanada, on 09/15/2009, -1/+19how about you just buy the god damn system with the games you want and shut the ***** up.
- Treshnell, on 09/15/2009, -7/+22I kind of hope that's sarcasm.
I hate how the entire focus of the last update was "PLAYSTATION STORE! BUY BUY BUY!" - ErrorBorn, on 09/15/2009, -4/+19Good to know.
- dillhole, on 09/15/2009, -2/+17I have both. Guess which one isn't broken.....
- jrm125, on 09/15/2009, -2/+16How is a slew of good games not relevant?
- frieddonuts, on 09/15/2009, -6/+18I hated the "upgrade" because now my XMB is now just a giant advertisement for the PS store. Is there a way to disable the scrolling text announcement at the top right or do I have to live with that?
Oh and the sparkly thing just looks silly- disabled that the second I saw it.
Sony disappointed me with this one most of the other .0 updates have added significant functionality...not this one. - nebloof, on 09/15/2009, -0/+11I know from the gamefaqs forums that it wasn't just a couple of PS3 games not working. It was seemingly a ton of random PS2/PS3 games on random consoles that didn't work. My PS3 works fine though with 3.0, so whatever.
- mywhitenoise, on 09/15/2009, -4/+15yeah...games that can be found on PS3 and PC
- Chrysalii, on 09/15/2009, -1/+11There is no worst fanboy, they all suck equally.
- jrm125, on 09/15/2009, -3/+13your internet connection must suck...took me 10 minutes from start to finish.
- Enjoikr3w, on 09/15/2009, -1/+11Why not?
- jrm125, on 09/15/2009, -2/+12Yea, because multitasking while it's updating sure is difficult for my tiny brain.
- barandon0D9, on 09/15/2009, -1/+10@j035u5: Yeah, Mass Effect is a good game, no doubt. 360 has a lot of good games, most of which are on PC. I like the 360, I just don't like having to buy all this extra stuff.
- PseudoThink, on 09/15/2009, -5/+14Seriously. Do we really need to have *another* Playstation Store link in the game menu? No way to remove it, either. Wasn't the news popup at the top enough? It's nearly as blatant at "BUY BUY BUY!" as Playstation Home was.
- wolfing, on 09/15/2009, -2/+10I can do that too, let's see...
Fidel Castro is dead! Well, it really hasn't happened yet but he's probably going to die eventually and we'll keep you informed when it happens - neFariou5, on 09/15/2009, -1/+9Not sure why I got dugg down, It's never a good idea to install system updates before you know how they act on the majority of systems. The same is true for OSes, hardware devices like ipod's, routers, etc.
- DeadlyAlpaca, on 09/15/2009, -1/+9Because the screen is used for things other than digg.com? My laptop has a screen res of 1920x1080, would you have me change the resolution to browse the internet?
- fadetoone, on 09/15/2009, -1/+8It fixes Uncharted... that's probably about it.
- PseudoThink, on 09/15/2009, -0/+7I've disabled "What's New" display, but I still get the news feed at the top right, and the auto-updating Playstation Store feed. Don't see how to disable those...
- ucbmckee, on 09/15/2009, -3/+9People that shove multiple apps on their screen, just because they have the real estate, sort of drive me nuts. They're the sort of people that probably have cluttered bedrooms and cluttered lives. Not to overgeneralize or anything. Having all that extra crap on the screen is distracting and messy. In general, I think most people agree with this; it's one of the reasons why the portal movement of the late 90s/early 2000s died off, people just didn't like their UI being filled with *****. I swear, that's 90% of how Google became successful - their algorithm, back then, wasn't really -that- much better. In any event, what are you really gaining by shoving windows you're not using to the foreground? Is alt-tab that expensive?
/pedanticism - Qumahlin, on 09/15/2009, -2/+8Apple, only because most of the fanboys are typically uneducated on what they are even talking about.
I know quite a few people who consider themselves Apple fanboys yet the only Apple product they own is a iPhone, yet they sit online and extoll how great apple is yet they can't even afford a Macbook...thats some blind blatant fanboyism for you. - decker12, on 09/15/2009, -1/+6Supports for those services will be bundled with Gran Turismo 5.
- nickycakes, on 09/15/2009, -4/+9To be fair, i'd rather hear about this than new versions of wine, but it's still not news.
- nyden, on 09/15/2009, -1/+5I HATE the new psn ads all over the xmb, Im gonna hold off on anymore updates. I now want the ps3 to get hacked so that maybe the xmb would be customized to remove those ads.
- xxacefirexx, on 09/15/2009, -1/+5lol its true. I don't care much for the console wars, but I can't help but hit digg on every Playstation article before I even read it.
- MWeather, on 09/16/2009, -0/+4If I wanted to play PC games, I wouldn't have bought a console.
- TsuruchiBrian, on 09/15/2009, -0/+4A lot of people's blu-ray laser diodes have been crapping out. Mine just went out last month. It seemed like it blu ray stopped working right after I upgraded to 2.80, but this was just a coincidence. I replaced the blu-ray laser and now it works fine again.
- XeroKool, on 09/15/2009, -2/+6There's a quick fix if the scrolling text really bothers you that much. Change your system date to 2010 and then restart your PS3. Unlike you though, I really like the update. The LBP theme is pretty cool.
- yearofglad, on 09/15/2009, -3/+7I KNOW DUDE RIGHT!?? WE'RE WAAAY BUSY AND *****, CAN'T WAIT FOR VIDEO GAMES!
- ator1, on 09/15/2009, -2/+6You can disable the newsfeed in the settings.
- Treshnell, on 09/15/2009, -3/+7Well I tend to spend more time playing games than buying them, so I guess that's why I don't like it all that much.
- Jeremyz0r, on 09/15/2009, -1/+5@cpressland: It renders fine maximized as well. I did it to hide my other windows in a rush.
- xxacefirexx, on 09/15/2009, -3/+7I like it. There's a lot of quality stuff on it for good prices, the new layout lets me see what's available much quicker than digging through the old store.
- bman1984, on 09/16/2009, -0/+3Tversity doesn't work so great with HD content, even with 802.11n wireless network. This doesn't work for Hulu, but for "other media", external USB drives are the way to go.
- SkippyDoorknob, on 09/15/2009, -1/+4It's a tribute to Billy Mays
- wem003, on 09/15/2009, -5/+8All the PS3 updates combined still take less time than waiting for your 360 to come back in the mail after a RROD...
- Qumahlin, on 09/16/2009, -1/+4I agree about God of War. Batman, sorry I won't buy a game on PS3 that is released on both consoles when the 360 version will typically have a better online experience and not require a mandatory install. Batman is an example, I was playing it on my 360 as soon as I got home after purchasing it, whereas my routine when purchasing a PS3 game is
1. Put disc in drive
2. Start mandatory install that exists on 99% of the "good" games (2 gigs in the batman example),
3. Make myself a snack and get a drink,
4. Hope I spent enough time in the kitchen that the game is finished installing when I get back.
I also disagree about the exclusive content being great as the only thing I liked watching a co-worker play the PS3 version is the jokers weapons. I was glad they didn't simply reskin batman, but it's still not enough of a reason to get me to buy the PS3 version when overall it doesn't add anymore to the game since its the same exact challenge rooms. - nebloof, on 09/16/2009, -1/+4Apple - I'll talk to any other fanboy, but Apple is the worst.
- superkendall, on 09/16/2009, -2/+5God of war is a pretty good exclusive. And they had good exclusive content for Batman...
- neFariou5, on 09/15/2009, -1/+4I'm not bashing sony, and 1 percent of millions is still many.thousands.
