- jacksons98, on 01/27/2009, -1/+54Just a fyi for those who don't click the link.
The article is actually called "Rumor: PSP 2 Coming Soon" - twiztidsinz, on 01/27/2009, -1/+52You forgot to mention that the body will be cast from solid gold forged in the fires of Mt.Doom by virgin Elven priestesses and encrusted with precious gems taken from a Dragon's treasure horde.
- i4mt3hwin, on 01/27/2009, -4/+45Yeah, I'd also like one for under $500, so no thank you.
- AFelsinger, on 01/27/2009, -9/+44so i guess apple can add sony to their list of companies to sue?
- alan784, on 01/27/2009, -1/+33I'll believe it when I see it being marketed by sony.
- MrAsparagus, on 01/27/2009, -2/+33HAHAHA.... No.
"Clearly, being a quiet time of year, many, what we thought to be credible websites, are making up stories about PSP2, and how it allows you to teleport across the globe, travel through time, and will be powered by the horns of baby rhinoceroses," Sony explained. "Hopefully, you can sense a mild tone of sarcasm, which should hopefully indicate how 'on the money' IGN are. Needless to say, we don't comment on rumour or speculation, but this is nonsense."
Buried for inaccurate rumor-baby-throw-up-crap-poop. - inactive, on 01/27/2009, -13/+37Please God no touchscreen.
What I'd like:
Bluetooth to connect to devices like PS3 controllers and the remote, bluetooth headsets, keyboards, etc
USB master port to let us connect other USB devices and let PSP access them
Higher generation of Wifi
4 to 8 times the processing power/RAM/UMD read speed
Ability to do full 720p or at least 480p via TV out
PSN friends list, trophies, chatting, etc
In-game XMB
Custom soundtracks in ALL games, come on, they marketed it as an MP3 player. It should be able to play MP3s at all times.
DSi has a webcam, PSP has to have one. And only one. Just make it rotatable like PSP's camera
Obviously dual analog
Plus make the buttons analog
Add the 2 missing shoulder buttons somehow (or make the shoulder buttons clickable like gamecube's)
SIXAXIS (they could also use it to park the UMD drive if you drop the PSP)
I'd love a cellular data connection and GPS, and the ability to use PSP as a cellular modem for PCs/etc via USB or bluetooth
Replacing memory stick with SSD or even a laptop harddrive would be a godsend
And ditching UMD would screw us out of backwards compatibility using games we own. - DanteDefiance, on 01/27/2009, -3/+26Buried as inaccurate. Sony has already said this is nothing more than speculation:
http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/27/sony-dismisses-i ... - robotfriendly, on 01/27/2009, -1/+20What??? A misleading title for page views? NEVER!
- Zaeboes, on 01/27/2009, -1/+17Do... Do you have legs?
- KSUdesigner, on 01/27/2009, -0/+11Nintendo had a touch screen on their system long before the iPhone came out.
- superherofive, on 01/27/2009, -0/+10How is Sony or Nintendo mimicking Apple in game development? What planet are you on?
- kouchan21, on 01/27/2009, -0/+10Buried for a highly misleading title
- petebot, on 01/27/2009, -0/+8Yes, and sony has already issued a statement denying this rumor.
- jacksons98, on 01/27/2009, -5/+13Maybe I'm missing it, but what could apple sue for?
Touchscreen is nothing new, I was using a stylus to play games on my Palm 10+ years ago. - CoD4, on 01/27/2009, -2/+9They won't market it right, they'll try to wing it, just like all the other stuff they've ***** up
- killermk, on 01/27/2009, -0/+7IGN isn't the most reliable source when it comes to rumors. Remember Kid Icarus Wii?
- KSUdesigner, on 01/27/2009, -1/+81. Competition is always a good thing.
2. They already have a well-established base of developers.
3. ???
4. Profit. - superherofive, on 01/27/2009, -5/+11Apple has about as much right to sue anyone about anything as I have the right to sue someone over having legs.
- FreezerB, on 01/27/2009, -1/+7"Rumor: PSP 2 is real."
What? - SkippyDoorknob, on 01/27/2009, -1/+6Third paragraph (which also happens to be the article summary above):
"IGN has learned from several credible sources that the PSP 2 is indeed on the horizon, and will be packing multi-touch technology. According to our sources, the PSP 2 will feature a widescreen multi-touch interface comparable to that of the iPhone for both in-game control and menu navigation." - inactive, on 01/27/2009, -3/+8I guess this is Sony's way of competing with Apple and Nintendo. Seems like everything these days is going the ways of touch screens.
- wigenite, on 01/27/2009, -2/+7It's all over the internet today that this rumor from YESTERDAY, has already been debunked.
MCV reports that "what we thought to be credible websites are making up stories about PSP2 and how it allows you to teleport across the globe, travel through time, and will be powered by the horns of baby rhinoceroses."
"Needless to say, we don't comment on rumour or speculation, but this is nonsense.” - ghostrc, on 01/27/2009, -5/+9Sony says this rumor is nonsense:
http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/27/sony-dismisses-i ... - wedges, on 01/27/2009, -1/+5***** TOUCH SCREEN just give me dual analogs on a portable!!!!
- Deadcell34, on 01/27/2009, -0/+3Ok, so apparently this is just a rumor. Oh well, I'm still gonna get a PSP 3000. Thats good enough for me.
- briguymaine, on 01/27/2009, -0/+3right on, wake me when it ships.
- Elranzer, on 01/27/2009, -1/+4Neither Nintendo or even Sony are afraid of losing game market share to the iPhone/iPodTouch. It's a pitiful market share compared to both handhelds.
- JayD16, on 01/27/2009, -1/+4Video Store
Social Networking
It would be foolish to throw these away seeing as Sony already has the infrastructure. The movie store is already in place and social networking would be a great if you just mean messaging your PSN buddies.
Web Browser
eBook Reader
This is so easy to implement its not even funny. They already have a division that rewrote flash for the PS3's browser. Its going to be in the PSP2.
1280x720 screen....yeah right. You wouldn't even be able to see the difference. I say same resolution, increase the refresh rate. - Elranzer, on 01/27/2009, -0/+3The iPhone, with its lack of buttons, makes a terrible gaming device.
- aladrin, on 01/27/2009, -2/+5Funny, I do.
- patriotsfan82, on 01/27/2009, -0/+3I hope to god there is no multi-touch touch screen involved on any gaming device ever. The worst part about gaming on anything touchscreen based? Fingers are opaque.
Learn it people. - Deadcell34, on 01/27/2009, -0/+3Actually, you are thinking about Microsoft. Microsoft copies everything.
And Sony is not copying Apple. The Iphone is a PHONE. Not a gaming system. - robEstyles, on 01/27/2009, -6/+9List of things I want on the PSP 2:
1) GAMES!!!!!
That is all (disgruntled PSP owner who plays more NES roms than actual PSP games) - username7410, on 01/27/2009, -0/+3Buried. The PSP2 is NOT real, touch screen-enabled or coming soon. The article is pure speculation.
- inactive, on 01/27/2009, -1/+4You'd better pray on your knees that they're able to. The only reason Nintendo has done any improvements at all to the DS is because of the competition, and we all know how Microsoft behaves when they have no competition. Gaming would turn into a barren wasteland without the competition from Sony, and there doesn't appear to be anyone willing to take their place.
- keithburgun, on 01/27/2009, -0/+3Apple has nothing to sue them for. Unless you are actually think apple "invented" the touch screen, which would be funny.
- Culyt, on 01/27/2009, -0/+3I already felt that the touch screen on the DS was pointless, it was nothing more than a gimmick that was only ever used for those stupid touch mini games or those games which where basically all touch minigames.
Would have preferred an analog stick.
With that said if you have a touch screen you might as well have a multitouch one, I guess game designers will play enough of the game to realize that its impossible to require to much touching since finger block the screen and it would be hard to hold. There could also be some use for it, such as holding down a touch 'button' while controlling the character.
It could also help with future development, the next DS could be one big flexible touch screen and the buttons could be done in software, it would allow for both NDS dual touch screen backwards compatibility and a widescreen PSP style. The games would be able to make their own controls rather than relying on the hardware, you could make an analog joystick by having a circle in a bigger circle that you drag around with a thumb. Problem is there would be no tactile feedback (until nanotech really starts to take off and we could bumps that can be raised from the screen.)
☢ - Deadcell34, on 01/27/2009, -1/+4Um..... Apple cant sue a company for releasing a touch screen enabled device. Now, if Sony was to directly copy the way Apple made their touch screen then maybe Apple would have a case.
Frankly, I cant wait for this thing to come out. I was planning on getting a PSP 3000 (it is 3000 right?) within the next month or so but I think I may wait for the PSP 2 instead. Thanks Sony! - shinythingy, on 01/27/2009, -0/+2No, Apple has the patent for THEIR method of multi-touch. If Sony or any other company come up with another way of getting multi-touch, Apple can't don't *****.
- FatTony707, on 01/27/2009, -1/+3BS!!
THIS IS FROM SONY http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/27/sony-dismisses-i ...
Needless to say, we don't comment on rumour or speculation, but this is nonsense." - krahzee, on 01/27/2009, -4/+6So maybe Nintendo can then sue Apple as well, since they did touch screens for gaming first, right?
- inactive, on 01/27/2009, -0/+2God damn *****. I got a PSP because it didn't have touch screen. It makes no sense playing a game where your fingers are blocking what you need to look at.
- PhantomRogue, on 01/27/2009, -0/+2I like some of those but dislike others.
Id love to see my PSP be used as a CellPhone and GPS. But I also like my PocketPC, making programs without having to 'unlock' or 'homebrew' things.
I really think that a bigger screen, or at least a larger resolution and graphics capabilities.
Soundtracks aren't too important, but would be fun.
Get two analog sticks! - danwallace, on 01/27/2009, -0/+2Last time I checked, Nintendo Wii is a ***** joke and any real gamer will tell you so. Nintendo Wii is doing well because they've abandoned hardcore gamers for a broad audience of retards who don't have the dexterity or brain power to play a real game with a real interface device like a keyboard/mouse or a controller.
- CanadaMan87, on 01/27/2009, -0/+2I agree about the motion detection; it has no place on a handheld. I often play my PSP on the bus or train, so if I were playing a game like loco roco, I'd be ***** up left and right, because I'm being jostled around.
- danwallace, on 01/27/2009, -0/+2The iPhone isn't a contender for portable gaming. Stop pretending it is. Motion and touch are lame gimmicks.
- godinster, on 01/27/2009, -1/+3No one's going to get your started because no one cares about your neckbeard opinion.
- staticneuron, on 01/27/2009, -0/+2Motion-Detection would be very nice for loco roco 3. I would say an exception should be made for that. Other than that I agree with rest of list.
- MeltingIce, on 01/27/2009, -1/+3Meh... I'm still just going to get a Pandora :)
