- kweee, on 10/11/2007, -57/+415So that means they sold 28 instead of 1 today.
- seanthebond, on 10/11/2007, -28/+203There will be no dawn.. for HD-DVD.
- dabears1218, on 10/11/2007, -11/+84Not to mention the top 5 selling products in the video game category on Amazon are all now PS3 related. Smart move by Sony it looks like.
- nreynolds, on 10/11/2007, -14/+85What's important about this is that it is actually SALES rank. The article about the elite going up 4000%(about) was about popularity, not sales. And popularity can be manipulated.
- Ajajadude, on 10/11/2007, -16/+83Why would they drop the price more? It has more hardware features than the 360 and Wii. The price is extremely reasonable, especially now.
- OhFrak, on 10/11/2007, -0/+48There was no point to link to that crappy ps3fanboy site.
Direct link here to Amazon's top sellers in the video game section:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/videogames/
The PS3 is at #1 right now. - dvsbastard, on 10/11/2007, -11/+48"The Movers & Shakers index identifies, by category, the biggest gainers in sales rank at Amazon.com in the past 24 hours. For example, suppose a music item has a sales rank of 10 today, but was ranked as low as 30 yesterday. Its Movers & Shakers increase would be 200 percent."
The PS3 did not increase 2800% sales... It increased it's sales rank by that amount over a 24 hour period (i.e. at the time of the article, it moved up 28 positions)...
Misinterpretation at its best! - TDR25, on 10/11/2007, -6/+43Nothing surprises me about this news. It was only the price, a few dumb(and arrogant) comments, and no really great games that hampered the PS3's success...we all knew this. Not hating on the 360, I'm just surprised after 2 years of hardware problems that it's still pretty successful.
- AndrewDB, on 01/10/2008, -6/+41Christ.... Bush considering a gradual withdrawal from Iraq.. A Digg news story has mugglenet as it's source, and now the PS3 has a 2800% sales jump?..
Hell's not frozen over, Hell's looking at subzero temps now.. - h4mx0r, on 10/11/2007, -5/+40Except for that one time they did $100 x360s.
- NSMike, on 10/11/2007, -4/+39Fanboys are stupid. If there's one thing a lower priced PS3 will do, it will attract more sales, encourage competition, and make the console market a lot more interesting. Nothing bad there.
- fxspec06, on 10/11/2007, -3/+36How the HELL is it too little too late?
Am I missing something? - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -30/+63let's see how long before wii and xbox360 fanboys dig into this story.
- OhFrak, on 10/11/2007, -4/+31The 60 gig PS3 has a larger harddrive, WiFI, and the card readers. The Wifi alone costs 100 dollars extra on another console.
- charlescheese, on 10/11/2007, -0/+26Wow, I just noticed Amazon added this comment:
"• PS3 Price Drop Bonus: For a limited time receive a Blu-ray Remote Controller & Six Blu-ray discs FREE when you buy a PS3 from amazon.com. See offer details."
Free remote and the disks, that's the first I've seen with the remote too. - guntario, on 10/11/2007, -4/+29I'm convinced to buy one now. I have been wanting one for a long time, but I think $500 did it for me :)
- reedreeder, on 10/11/2007, -7/+30I just now realized that Guitar Hero: Rock the 80's is fifty bucks! Where do they get off charging that much money for an expansion pack?!
- devindotcom, on 10/11/2007, -4/+26I don't have a horse in this race, but that comment was pretty funny.
- devindotcom, on 10/11/2007, -0/+21what?!
- bigstinky, on 10/11/2007, -4/+24I've always owned a Sony game product until the PS3 came out. There was just no way I could afford it.
I've always had a Nintendo product as well, so when the new generation of machines came out, I went for the Wii. Still, I've always had a soft spot of "wanting" for the PS3. I could never understand the amount of hate this system received since it's release. Yes, it's price was astronomical, but to me all new-release systems seem that way, so I opt to wait for these type of price drops. It seems that the jump in sales indicates that alot of people feel the same way I do. Sony may have started out slow, but maybe people just wanted too much up front...And understandably so. Gamers do invest alot in their medium. I'm guilty of it.
Now the PS3 is in range, but I think I'll wait until the next big promo hits. Hopefully Nintendo will give me some nice options to get me through 'til then. - Maynza, on 10/11/2007, -3/+23Just bought mine, it is an awesome deal, you get a free blu-ray remote and memento on Blu-Ray for free.
- YoctoYotta, on 10/11/2007, -1/+20You're right, but a dick.
- TridenTBoy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+20You forgot something else...IT HAS ***** BLU-RAY!
- dabears1218, on 10/11/2007, -1/+20Yeah, but more consoles sold = more games and accessories sold.
- Malarie, on 10/11/2007, -21/+39Blue Ray Player, Console, Slick design, 100$ cheaper....
I want one. Thank you $0ny. - djSyndrome, on 10/11/2007, -3/+19How do you put bias onto a statistic from the world's biggest online retailer? (hint: you can't).
- Matter0099, on 10/11/2007, -3/+18Another site using Digg to increase their Amazon referred sales. (see ref_id in the URL)
- Bob042, on 10/11/2007, -6/+21I wonder what the percent change in Sony's profits/revenue will be?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+18Here at my Best Buy we had about 10 calls asking if they had dropped in price but we were already sold out...then again all we had were 5 left, but to sell 5 in 10 minutes is 'good' for the PS3 I guess
- 48h69h, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15Why? This is actually news... Or are you a PS3 owner who's pissed because you just bought one before the price drop? Or are you a wii/360 owner who's pissed that there's less of a price gap now?
Oh, and you dugg a story titled: "Blu-ray laser shortage ending; PS3 prices cuts should follow" and now you're mad when they confirmed the price drop? - Ajajadude, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14No...they had the 20 GB and the 60 GB model out at the same time and eventually dropped the 20 GB model.
It just wasn't worth it to buy the 20 GB model. - charlescheese, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14Yeah, but unlike the 360 you don't need to buy one to have a better than 2 out of 3 chance that your system will survive longer than a year and a half.
- 48h69h, on 10/11/2007, -7/+19And that why there was a 2800% increase in sales? Good call...
- charlescheese, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13You know the PS3 is selling well today, Memento on Blu-Ray (which they're giving away free with PS3 purchase right now) is #2 in the movie/DVD category on the movers and shakers list.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/movers-and-shakers/dvd/ref=pd_ms_d_nav/105-3253475-8110859?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=left-1&pf_rd_r=112SNRFHE32NWBRAJEZK&pf_rd_t=2301&pf_rd_p=221590901&pf_rd_i=51550011
And 300 on bluray is #5 in the whole movies category which includes dvd and vhs.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/dvd/ref=pd_dp_ts_d_1/105-3253475-8110859 - luperry, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12so I guess you are saying it still isn't selling much.
wow, then I guess amazon is nearing bankruptcy, having a product selling at 5.6 units a day listing at #1(or #2) spot. - ThinkBox, on 10/11/2007, -10/+21URL freakin look at the URL
- HolyChimp, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13It means it's the same guy that was spamming his amazon referral code with the 360 elite story earlier.
Hats off to him for his innovation in making money :D - DDRSkata, on 10/11/2007, -5/+16When the ***** did Rock the 80s come out?
- Cockdiesel, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11amazon is giving dvd remote and free copy of memento bray dvd. remember you can also get 5 free movies on top of that by mail in.
can't beat this man. And I almost bought a 360 last week. It's meant to be. - dabears1218, on 10/11/2007, -3/+13Again, it was the #1 selling video game related product on Amazon, and now is #2 (#1 still being a PS3 accessory). Check your facts before you bash stuff guys.
- OhFrak, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11The BluRay drive's diodes have dropped dramatically since the PS3 shipped from 100 dollars down to about 10 from the news stories I've seen. And that is just one component. There are obviously many other areas that are getting cheaper as the volume ramps up. Sony has recently stated that they are on track to break even on the PS3 hardware at the one year mark just like they did with the PS2.
- strictnein, on 10/11/2007, -19/+29Exactly. Amazon isn't much of a presence in the console market.
- djSyndrome, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11At that rate, they would need to sell ten million consoles just to equal the one billion dollar ***** Microsoft just took on 360 repairs.
- Pinkshisno, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10We all know the biggest obstacle for a consumer to buy a PS3 was its price. Now with the price drops coming, that "OMG expensive crapz!" sounds more and more like a sweet deal. I just want a sequel to Shadow of the Colossus or Ico and I'm completely sold. Oh and that free online is sweet too.
- Cirrius, on 10/11/2007, -9/+19Oh dear, what story will the Nintendo fanboys post in retaliation.
- Jeffler, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11Also, PS3Fanboy is a PS3-Only section of Joystiq, more or less.
- NiGHTSChao, on 10/11/2007, -11/+20I really hate how people are still bitching about the price, even at 500 dollars that still beats prices for building gaming computers (usually because 700 is the range you SHOULD spend for building a high-average-to-top-notch PC)
- KMartSheriff, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10I agree. I don't see how the PS3 sucks. It has everything the other consoles have without charging extra (WiFi, Blu-ray, etc.). Of course that means the price is higher, but it's worth it. Now we just need some quality games for it...
- VanD, on 10/11/2007, -20/+29EXACTLY
- NiGHTSChao, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9Nintendo fans didn't want extra functionality remember?
