- LimeParrot, on 11/26/2007, -4/+237This is the ONLY explanation I need:
"While the PC and 360 versions of the game were largely managed by Valve, the PS3 version was apparently the responsibility of a team at ~~~~~EA~~~~~". Fanboys, this isn't a reason to bash the PS3. This is a reason to bash EA, notorious for selling unfinished and unpolished games. - coheedcollapse, on 11/26/2007, -35/+181If one company can make a beautiful, modern game run in perfect 60 FPS 1080p with full AA on the PS3 (Call of Duty 4, obviously) and one company fails to get a game running on the PS3 with a two year old engine, there's something wrong with the developer, not the hardware. Sorry kid. Maybe you should think before posting mindless crap.
- inactive, on 11/26/2007, -5/+88Portal runs on the Half Life 2 engine. Porting one would be equally as hard as porting the other
- AnimZero, on 11/26/2007, -21/+86PS3 Hardware > 360 Hardware.
However, since gaming is about games...
360 Games > PS3 Games, thus, 360 > PS3. - Shogi, on 11/26/2007, -3/+66We seriously need to boycott EA so that they get the message that they need to stop shoveling this half-assed ***** to the masses and look at us crazy when we aren't satisfied. EA is largely the problem with the gaming industry, they don't really care what people think about the game, as long as it makes them money. Pretty much the same problem Hollywood has now. And because production costs are so high, indy devs have no choice but to deal with a ***** publisher like EA. And as long as EA is in a position of power over the devs, they'll continue to force them to adhere to ridiculous deadlines and pump out rehashed, buggy, and generally poorly made games, and all because we continue to give them our money.
Down with EA, once and for all. - grat2001, on 11/26/2007, -11/+71Every report of UT3 says it is almost identical to the PC version, so it's not just Infinity Ward.
- WhereAmI, on 11/26/2007, -12/+65This is why I won't be buying the Orange box for the PS3 but I will buy Unreal Tournament. I got the Orange Box for 25$ at Best Buy for the PC yesterday(go now, they had plenty of copies at my bb.)
But I wonder if not buying the games shows them a lesson or proves their point...but buying Unreal Tournament for the PS3 will show Valve how a game that was made right for the PS3 sells while a game that is handed off to EA "Game developers" only pisses us off. Actually I don't have anything against this EA game, as it wasn't their game and they had nothing to do with its development years ago. It was entirely Valves fault for tossing it to the side. - whateverHeSaid, on 11/26/2007, -9/+61username9000 said - "Sorry except for Codemasters...who made dirt right? the game that came out months before it did on the PS3 and plays and looks exactly the same."
Gamespot said - "One of the big complaints about DiRT on the 360 and PC was that it simply didn't perform very well. The PC version looked choppy on a near-constant basis, and the 360 version had a tendency to tank pretty badly during multicar races. On the other hand, the PlayStation 3 version is nearly flawless in this regard."
Sorry, username9000. You fail. - tentwentyfour, on 11/26/2007, -7/+59Guys, don't be drawn in by this moron. Look at his Digg history. Almost every comment he's made is on some Digg story about the PS3, and they're all badmouthing the PS3. Almost every Digg story he's dugg is about a PS3 problem or something to do with poor sales. Either this guy works for Microsoft or has nothing better to do than spend countless hours commenting on every flaw or problem with Sony and the PS3. He's a loser, ignore him.
Just for fun, you can look at his Digg history and read the comments. I bet you could count the non-PS3-bashing comments on one hand. - chingy1788, on 11/26/2007, -16/+64PC Prevails, mostly because you can put HL2 on some dated $100 - $300 machine and it would still run, and run good
- NightVortez, on 11/26/2007, -28/+74I don't know what this is all about but the problem with the PS3 isn't that it's hard to develop for at all, nor is it the hardware obviously, but that it is hard to port to, most developers have received a 360 dev kit almost a year before the PS3s so they have started the games on the 360, and are now finding themselves stuck on attempting to port something to a machine with a totally different structure.
The problem with Half-Life 2 is that it's a really old game that ran on the PC, so instead of remaking it on the 360/PS3 Valve went with doing a quick port, which is fine on the 360 due to it's PC like structure but doing this on the PS3 would require the whole game to be almost broken down. On the other hand a game like Portal, which was developed on actual hardware, would be a lot easier to port, hence why it's running smoothly.
Either way, stop the little fight thing, they are both good electronics with plenty of games to play, this just isn't one for the PS3, ***** happens, Unreal Tournament 3 is coming out the same day so I don't think anyone is going to miss it too much. - LordSeth, on 11/26/2007, -11/+51ok this is a bit off topic but does anyone feel sorry for username9000's family and "friends" having to put up with their ignorant *****.
- whateverHeSaid, on 11/26/2007, -14/+51"So I guess EVERY third party developer except Infinity Ward has horrible programmers"
Way to blatantly ignore developers like Insomniac, Naughty Dog, Epic, Ninja Theory, Incognito, Codemasters... But hey, whatever helps you convince yourself that your right and everybody else is wrong. - quaunaut, on 11/26/2007, -19/+55Then could you perhaps explain why nearly every developer has expressed that the PS3 is causing a lot of issues? It *is* hard to develop for. Hell, even the companies you mentioned have all said the same thing: Infinity Ward said they had to have a dedicated PS3 team of 5(where 360 and PC didn't need any extra), Naughty Dog has had to restart development more than 4 times from large coding mistakes because of the insanely confusing nature of the PS3 architecture. Insomniac seemed to do well, but even they mentioned that the thing caused more problems for them than the 360 would have. Yeah, it has more power. But more power at the expense of the developers isn't smart, and isn't how you make a console. Developers are the only reason consoles succeed, plain and simple.
- whateverHeSaid, on 11/26/2007, -14/+47Wow, talk about fanboy nonsense. Just read your own post.
I am looking at facts - 360 has a 30% failure rate. That is a fact. You want to start talking about hardware problems you better be ready to start with the biggest one among all the consoles.
As far as games are concerned, the only deficiencies are a result of lazy developers porting from the 360 to the PS3. When a team is dedicated to the PS3 version, as was Infinity Ward with COD4, the end results are practically identical. There have been other games, such as Dirt, which perform BETTER on the PS3. Were you around to make excuses then for your 360? Get over it. You are one of the biggest fanboys on digg. The fact that you lead off these comments with a stab at PS3 only proves it. - mywhitenoise, on 11/26/2007, -3/+36You haven't met Truspector and KingGoonie, have you?
- triplehelix, on 11/26/2007, -7/+38so because they are 2nd party developers, they magically sidestep the problems with the hardware? or is it just that it is in fact a developer problem.
- whateverHeSaid, on 11/26/2007, -4/+35There is nothing "hypothetical" about the quality of COD4 on the PS3. Why do you choose to ignore this fact?
- WhereAmI, on 11/26/2007, -7/+38Naughty Dog is owned by Sony and they are happy about it. Insomniac is not owned by Sony but are published by them and they are happy about it. David Jaffe (God Of War, Twisted Metal) is a great game creator and a Sony fanboy at heart. The reason some of us Sony fanboys even exist because we can see how Insomniac and David have such fun. Unlike Valve, we don't see them bitching about how hard it is to develop for.
- bdawg123, on 11/26/2007, -169/+200PS3 hardware > 360 hardware
No matter what your system of choice is there is no denying this fact. PS3s do not have a 30% failure rate like the 360 does. As far as the quality of the end product (the game) that is in the hands of the developers. Infinity Ward, Naughty Dog, Insomniac, etc., have all proven that the PS3 is more than capable of handling just about anything you care to throw at it. Valve, by way of EA, apparently don't have the smarts to figure it out. - zugnokorr, on 11/26/2007, -7/+37All in all the PC version is still greater than both the 360 and PS3 one.
- WhereAmI, on 11/26/2007, -3/+32So, if a patch can fix it, obviously the hardware can run it, otherwise the patch wouldn't do a damn thing.
O.o revelation. - chingy1788, on 11/26/2007, -7/+35cause valve likes us PC gamers, keyboard and mouse prevails
- mywhitenoise, on 11/26/2007, -7/+35Assassin's Creed looks pretty much identical, and ubisoft sucks. DiRT is said to run better on PS3, but I never tried it.
It's a well known fact that the lead at Valve hates PS3 and gave EA the game to port over. It's a shame, I wanted a game for December, but I guess Valve would rather ***** us over than show they are a good company and get some money out of it. - tcasey22, on 11/26/2007, -4/+31well*
- whateverHeSaid, on 11/26/2007, -12/+38Hey moron, it's problematic on the 360 as well. Read some non-bias reviews. Or just get your head out of your ass.
- djSyndrome, on 11/26/2007, -3/+29username9000, the 360 is perfectly capable of breaking itself. No software required!
- shinythingy, on 11/26/2007, -0/+26Really and where is your proof of this 9000? Your inside sources? Would your inside sources be your ass by any chance?
- IndigoMoss, on 11/26/2007, -1/+27It's not that every other developer other than Infinity Ward sucks, it's just that EA is a horrible company that cares about making money, over making a good product.
- Beakerz, on 11/26/2007, -4/+29By Half Life 2 engine to you mean the Source engine?
- whateverHeSaid, on 11/26/2007, -3/+27"I am a 360 fanboy"
At least we agree on something. - djSyndrome, on 11/26/2007, -1/+24"Wherami, you are yet another uninformed fanboy. the reason Grand theft auto was delayed was because Rockstar had to make it work with the PS3."
Find *one* quote from *anyone* at Rockstar to back up this claim. Go on, I'm waiting. - soulpiercer7, on 11/26/2007, -9/+32that's why you buy it for the PC, so you can play it how it was intended to be played.
Mouse + Keyboard > controller
plus, PC version allows for console commands, mods and custom content. - whateverHeSaid, on 11/26/2007, -4/+27Graphically superior to Half-Life 2? Absolutely.
- Splitt3rxx, on 11/26/2007, -4/+27just get the PC version, valve doesn't give a ***** about console gamers.
- thebellmaster1x, on 11/26/2007, -2/+24Okay, let's get me in here as a mediator--I'm a Wii type of guy.
Verdict: You're full of *****.
You look at the facts, ass. Where did he say "the PS3 is better for gaming because it has better hardware"? (Hint: it's nowhere.) All he's commenting on is the fact that PS3s don't break down instantly because you've put a game in the drive. - geneticerror, on 11/26/2007, -0/+22That, and because valve have no experience in developing for the playstation 3 (or the playstation 2 for that matter), it probably would have taken much longer for them to release the PS3 version of the game.
Im betting that the reason that they outsourced the PS3 version is that if they didn't, then it would have taken a lot of their valuable resources, diverting key staff members, and therefore reducing the overall content quality of episode 2 and team fortress 2.
EA deserves all the blame because valve entrusted them with producing a high quality port. EA said that they would be able to do that; but they failed. - KnockoutNerd, on 11/26/2007, -22/+44Yeah, I'm ganna have to ask you to please cancel your digg account. Its better for all of us.
You Are The Worst Case of Fanboy EVER. - djSyndrome, on 11/26/2007, -5/+27"Wrong again. The 360 HAD a 30% failure rate. That has been resolved. "
It's been *addressed*. In a year, if failure rates have truly declined, you can say it has been "resolved".
"Secondly, with that failure rate it still trounced the PS3 in sales"
If by 'trounced' you mean 'sold at the same rate in the first year', then sure. The 360 and PS3 sell-through rates through the first twelve months are nearly identical.
"I own a PS3 you ***** tool."
Sure. If you hate it so much but still hold onto it, then you're an even bigger idiot than we all thought.
I'd block you, but you're so entertaining I'd only be depriving myself of the enjoyment brought by reading your mindless xbot drivel :) - mywhitenoise, on 11/26/2007, -5/+27he doesn't have any friends, and his family is either dead or considers him dead.
- Renton, on 11/26/2007, -1/+23Nobody said it did. Read the description.
"While the PC and 360 versions of the game were largely managed by Valve, the PS3 version was apparently the responsibility of a team at EA. This has led to a number of framerate hiccups and other technical issues due to EA's poor-quality development, which "at best merely hinder game play and at worst make the experience downright unplayable."
Although, this should reach the front page so nobody accidently buys the PS3 version without knowing about these issues. - inactive, on 11/26/2007, -2/+23You left out wagelaven
- thebellmaster1x, on 11/26/2007, -1/+22Maybe it has something to do with the fact that EA is a ***** company.
- WhereAmI, on 11/26/2007, -1/+21"Wait for it, wait for it. Now comes every Sony fanboy in the world giving a thousand excuses why its not the hardware's fault."-username9000, first post.
However no one important said it did. - shinythingy, on 11/26/2007, -1/+21You are going to call out people as being fanboys?
- WhereAmI, on 11/26/2007, -0/+20Wrong username9000, there has been no official statement from Rockstar on why it was delayed. Rumors said 360 DVD small size being a problem. Rumors said it was the PS3 technical challenges. Neither of these rumors have any basis. You think paying 50 Million dollars was worth it to Microsoft for two episode packs? They are getting something more and you know it.
- ZenMojo, on 11/26/2007, -3/+22Gabe Newell hates the PS3, EA's just lazy.
- blindmelon1, on 11/26/2007, -4/+21Keep on digging that hole.
- Vash3001, on 11/26/2007, -0/+17Gabe at Valve hates the PS3
- adraft, on 11/26/2007, -1/+18username9000, stop please. You're making me hate my own 360.
I don't get how anyone can be a fanboy of any console. Just buy whatever freaking works for what you want to do. -
