PS3 Firmware 2.20 to enable "Portable Copy" for PSP
pspupdates.qj.net — On top of supporting BD-Live online content, PlayStation 3 firmware 2.20 will also carry a Portable Copy function. This allows you to convert Blu-ray movies and transfer them to your PSP!

- OwdenBowden, on 03/24/2008, -16/+1So now all the PS3 Fanboys and Fangirls can take all 3 of their PS3 games on the road with them.
Seriously, it has been a year and a half since Sony came out with the PS3 and we still have so few games for it. All I keep hearing is "just wait" or a "you'll see" but nothing happened except Sony eliminating every console as well as backwards compatibility. Also - knowing how Sony works (For The Record: they (Sony) sold you a blu-ray player with the PS3 not a "Next-Gen" Gaming Console) I am sure you will eventually have to purchase a new PSP in order for this porting to work.
So someone please let me know how much longer need we wait on Sony to "WoW" us and the rest of the gaming public?- PleaseJustDie, on 03/24/2008, -1/+9You're an idiot, this is about taking MOVIES with you, it recompresses it into MP4 so you can put it on your PSP memory cards which can be played by a generation 1 PSP. I used to convert DVD's to MP4 and play it on my PSP back in the day.
AND you obviously don't ever look at your PS3, see that option there called Remote Play? PS3 games that support that allow you to use your PSP to play PS3 games on it. It's like a VNC (but better) for your PS3. - OwdenBowden, on 03/24/2008, -12/+1WOW - PleaseJustDie is very PS Angry. Why are you so mad and calling people names? Do you have "issues" that require medication? All I did was bring up some valid points that Sony has screwed us all and all you do is call people names and describe how "Back in the Day" you converted movies - like it was 20 ***** years ago (we're not talking 5.1/2 in floppy's here).
Take a ***** valium and relax a bit. Just because you paid close to $900 or your Mommy and Daddy's (or your own) hard earned dollars to by a Blu-Ray player and that you like to watch movies on a 4" screen does not give you the RIGHT to beat people up.
With that said - Take your Downloaded Movies on your PSP and Shove is Up your Tight ass until you taste the Jap plastic coming out of your mouth.
Your apology has been accepted. Glade to see you have learned your lesson.- PleaseJustDie, on 03/24/2008, -0/+31) You are an idiot
2) Back in the day was when the PSP first came out, so what 4 years ago?
3) $900? I paid $500 for a 60 gig model when they announced that the 60 gigs would be ending and the replacement didn't have an emotion engine
4) With that said you can seriously go ***** yourself. I would never apologize to someone who replies about how I called you a name and then you turn around and call me a name. You are now a hypocrite and do not deserve an apology.
- PleaseJustDie, on 03/24/2008, -0/+31) You are an idiot

- NaziHatinChimp, on 03/24/2008, -33/+7When can I play PSP games on my PS3 (downloaded of course).
- bCabulon, on 03/24/2008, -12/+5I've been waiting for that feature too. I'd settle for being able to play psp games on my ps3 only when the psp is hooked up by USB.
- WhereAmI, on 03/24/2008, -2/+16Is the new PSP 2000 TV out not good enough for you?
- popfrogs, on 03/24/2008, -6/+4Most people have the phat older PSP so that doesn't work for us.
- bCabulon, on 03/24/2008, -1/+4First off I have one of the fat black PSPs. The reason I would like the feature is so I could use a regular controller instead of the PSP controls to play the game. The built in controls on PSP are a poor substitute for a console controller. They are fine for when you are on the run, but when I'm at home I'd rather use a sixaxis. I would like support for connecting a sixaxis controller to a PSP as well. Most of my gaming time is at home. I never get through the portable games because I only play them outside of home. If they were to add controller support to the new PSP I would buy one.
- WhereAmI, on 03/24/2008, -2/+16Is the new PSP 2000 TV out not good enough for you?
- Goya, on 03/24/2008, -19/+6I dont even play my psp games on my psp.

and a psp :(- thatsmyaibo, on 03/24/2008, -3/+23I'm pretty sure you can buy those now.
- dondara, on 03/24/2008, -3/+13Yeah, at a place called stores.
- sonicjosh, on 03/24/2008, -6/+2Nazi time! He said blu ray dvd; dvd != bluray; bluray>>>hd-dvd>dvd. Bluray discs have nothing to do with dvd's other than that they both play movies.

- smurf22, on 03/24/2008, -5/+45You either haven't figured out how to hack it or you haven't figured out how to put games in it.
Protip: It's the button on the top.- fkr3, on 03/24/2008, -6/+14Protip: The games start at like $10 and it's worth using the official firmware for Skype.
- DaHuuuuuudge, on 03/24/2008, -5/+17Protip: I just wanted to say Protip.
- Tahiri, on 03/24/2008, -2/+13You can use skype on custom firmware
- senatorpjt, on 03/24/2008, -7/+2AFAIK the new ones (slim, the only ones I see in stores) haven't been hacked yet.
- Zcrubby, on 03/24/2008, -0/+6And as far as I know, you're wrong.
- theaceoffire, on 03/24/2008, -0/+4All PSP's have been hacked thanks to the Pandora's Battery.
- senatorpjt, on 03/25/2008, -0/+2Yeah, but you need an old PSP from everything I've seen. If you can do it without an old one, I'd love to hear how.

-Patapon
-God of War: Chains of Olympus
-Crisis Core coming (25 or 26 I think).
-Ecochrome coming
Now I need a PS3.- fkr3, on 03/24/2008, -3/+8I need Wednesday and my copy of God of War to arrive. :(
- robocop1, on 03/24/2008, -1/+4its too damn short ,i beat it in about 4 or 5 hours
- fkr3, on 03/24/2008, -1/+11Good thing I suck at games, that'll probably take me 16 - 20 hours.
- robocop1, on 03/24/2008, -1/+4its too damn short ,i beat it in about 4 or 5 hours
- ericrous, on 03/24/2008, -7/+1That "coming" series must be really popular, Because every decent PS3 game seems to be part of it too. "Metal Gear Solid Coming Soon," "Home Coming Soon," "Final Fantasy XIII Coming Soon," "Grand Theft Auto IV Coming Soon."
- cthellis, on 03/25/2008, -0/+1It's a sequel to the "already here" series, starring Resistance, Motorstorm, Warhawk, Folklore, Heavenly Sword, Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank... And those are just the exclusive, non-PSN ones. Shall I continue?
Doesn't mean that all the games are glorious, or for everyone, or worth their starting price to everyone... But it seems people only seem to describe worthwhile games as "those other things I mention that aren't out yet." Yet they're probably the same people who eagerly purchased a 360 early on so that they could play Halo 3, Mass Effect, and a lot of other games that took 1-2 years to show up, yet were still content to play lots of other good-to-great (and sometimes even mediocre) games in the meantime.

- Mrdudeperson, on 03/24/2008, -4/+12And I am one of those MANY people.
- musntSurfatWork, on 03/24/2008, -4/+1I represent a large portion of this demographic, for I have 9 PS3's!
- Claude1971, on 03/25/2008, -1/+1do you actually know how many PSP's have been sold? Just cause your Mom got you a pink DS instead, no need to get snippy!
- bumblefoot, on 03/24/2008, -28/+4that's a pretty cool feature, going from HD content to a mp4 is going to suck quality wise though
- kingfoot, on 03/24/2008, -1/+16downscaling is a hell of a lot easier than upscaling.
- willdiggforfood, on 03/24/2008, -3/+8HD content IS MP4, btw. It's just a different resolution for the PSP.
- ehal256, on 03/24/2008, -2/+4Not all HD content is MP4.
- supermanred, on 03/24/2008, -3/+2No, some is still mpeg 2 or 3.
Most digital cable is transmitted as mpeg2 even digital HD
- supermanred, on 03/24/2008, -3/+2No, some is still mpeg 2 or 3.
- theaceoffire, on 03/24/2008, -0/+5MP4 is just a container.
- ehal256, on 03/24/2008, -2/+4Not all HD content is MP4.
- popfrogs, on 03/24/2008, -1/+10Not sure if you're trolling, but with the resolution of the PSP screen, it doesn't matter a whole lot anyway.
- Septimus, on 03/24/2008, -3/+1Most is actually VC-1 encapsulated, so transcoding is still required during the downscale. Even with the Cell CPU at 100%, it will probably take an hour at the very least to complete a movie.
- garionw, on 03/24/2008, -5/+76I just want DivX playback on my PSP, nothing else
- RyeBrye, on 03/24/2008, -17/+7I'd want DivX features - plus everything it currently has... (You have to be pretty specific in these wishlists, otherwise you might get something like Vista as a result)
- dondara, on 03/24/2008, -9/+5Buried? Come on, that was funny
- nemodomi, on 03/24/2008, -4/+8Probably buried by disgruntled and frustrated Vista owners. Buyer's remorse is a bitch.
- dondara, on 03/24/2008, -9/+5Buried? Come on, that was funny
- TechCF, on 03/24/2008, -1/+2Well, with homebrew (and thats easy on the PSP, no chip needed) you can get it. But with its small CPU most new encoded titles will lag. Maybe Sony can tweak and optimize it to work, but I am not sure.
- parkermauney, on 03/24/2008, -0/+5Try XviD4PSP.
It converts from divx and xvid to psp format, but the quality is nearly identical. - themoose, on 03/24/2008, -4/+3^ Converting won't work, I want to just drop a couple of episodes on my memory stick and be good to go. ***** waiting 2 hours for conversion.
- RyeBrye, on 03/24/2008, -17/+7I'd want DivX features - plus everything it currently has... (You have to be pretty specific in these wishlists, otherwise you might get something like Vista as a result)
- Aleman360, on 03/24/2008, -4/+41Step 2. Transfer from PSP to PC.
- Darth_tater, on 03/24/2008, -11/+7step 3. Break sony's DRM
- thesandreckoner, on 03/24/2008, -9/+3No, step 3 is ????
- aliendave, on 03/24/2008, -8/+4No, step 2 is "????". Step 3 is "profit".
- Asianwaste, on 03/24/2008, -2/+1AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGH *Head explodes*
- thesandreckoner, on 03/24/2008, -9/+3No, step 3 is ????
- Mrdudeperson, on 03/24/2008, -13/+2Sony might be able to get to step 2 if they don't screw this up like they seem to do with every product that ever had a chance.
- bigbadgoat, on 03/24/2008, -1/+11you could probably do step 2..
but... why would you want that resolution on your computer?
- bigbadgoat, on 03/24/2008, -1/+11you could probably do step 2..
- ZombieJesus, on 03/24/2008, -4/+18Step 3. Sigh when you realise its at a PSP friendly resolution.
- Aleman360, on 03/24/2008, -2/+5The PSP can play DVD resolution videos... might be feasible to expect them to allow that because it would be better for the TV-out functionality.
- celkin, on 03/24/2008, -3/+1in b4
Step 4: ?????
Step 5: Profit!
- Darth_tater, on 03/24/2008, -11/+7step 3. Break sony's DRM
- bradkovach, on 03/24/2008, -3/+15I'm anxious to see what kind of encoding power the PS3 is capable of. Streaming to the PSP would be very nice, too. I don't have a very big Memory Stick on my PSP.
- solidus636, on 03/24/2008, -1/+15It can already stream to the PSP...
I'm not sure about Blu-Ray movies, but video files can be streamed through remote play, even through the internet. - WhereAmI, on 03/24/2008, -2/+14Remote Play not working for you?
- RyeBrye, on 03/24/2008, -4/+46If you can shell out $$$ for a PS3 and $$ for a PSP, I think $ for a 2 gig MS duo should be well within your purchasing power.
- Mew2, on 03/24/2008, -22/+1More like $$$$ - $$$$$ for a PS3.
- popfrogs, on 03/24/2008, -4/+10Nintendo makes the Wii affordable for you welfare recipients.
- Okari, on 03/24/2008, -4/+8Not if the person had to save up for those things. Just because someone bought something that's relatively expensive doesn't mean they have money to throw away on other things.
- Mew2, on 03/24/2008, -22/+1More like $$$$ - $$$$$ for a PS3.
- bhattsan, on 03/24/2008, -0/+3Hell, I have my setup like this: remote play from psp -->ps3, which then streams divx files from my comp using windows media player's sharing capabilities. Its amazingly easy.
- DarkShroud, on 03/24/2008, -0/+2There are 16gig memory sticks now. And depending on your model PS3 you can use it for both.
- solidus636, on 03/24/2008, -1/+15It can already stream to the PSP...
- brownrecluse888, on 03/24/2008, -38/+0I think this is going to be stopped by the Digg Hating Hilary Clinton....but at the last second Ron Paul will jump in and save the day with Obama at his side.....remember all you Digg closed minded minions, EVERYTHING is Clintons fault....
- solidus636, on 03/24/2008, -1/+9what?
- mattatarms1507, on 03/24/2008, -2/+15Especially when it involves Blu-Ray and various Sony products!
- LucasJ218, on 03/24/2008, -2/+6Right.
. - cthellis, on 03/25/2008, -0/+1I thought everything was Apple's fault?
- element2990, on 03/24/2008, -27/+4and it only takes less than 9000 hours to transfer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Jeffler, on 03/24/2008, -1/+14Are you sure its not OVER 9000?
Either way, you're still a troll, gtfo - supermanred, on 03/24/2008, -6/+1No, but it will probably take more than an hour or two.
I'll stick to my iPod touch, iTunes and Pirate bay. Better screen resolution anyways.- Septimus, on 03/24/2008, -0/+7Ignoring HD downloads from PB, but Touch resolution higher than PSP? Ohhhkay.
- samdu, on 03/24/2008, -0/+5Why would it take that long? It's already encoded and ready to go on the Blu-Ray disc. It's a simple copy procedure. And even if it did have to re-encode it, we're talking a CPU with plenty of processing power.
- Jeffler, on 03/24/2008, -1/+14Are you sure its not OVER 9000?
- LucasJ218, on 03/24/2008, -28/+2I don't buy this - it would allow you to convert blu ray to standard def movies? Nah - can't see it happening.
- Anorhc, on 03/24/2008, -2/+21Too bad it is happening. Sony announced this a while back.
- ehal256, on 03/24/2008, -1/+1Why would it be so hard? I can do it on my PC. :/
- unrealmp3, on 03/24/2008, -0/+5Pretty sure they will put something that tie the video to the PSP serial number or something to avoid distribution.
- theaceoffire, on 03/24/2008, -1/+1^_^ You mean like the Zune?
Let's hope they are not stupid enough to put time, unit, and playability restrictions on it.- cthellis, on 03/25/2008, -0/+1Not "time" restrictions, but "playability" to be sure. At least the same way the PSP already does so for games, and the iPod and other devices use for their media. Basically, you can tie your PSP to one account/source at a time, and anything that that machine/account is authorized to play your PSP will be able to. It simply means you can't pass things around freely.
If you don't use it for anything but your own stuff, you really won't notice it's there.
It's not like BR disks are individually stamped, though. Even if you wanted to use a friend's stuff for a while, you could toss your disk at him and he could rip the movie as well.
- cthellis, on 03/25/2008, -0/+1Not "time" restrictions, but "playability" to be sure. At least the same way the PSP already does so for games, and the iPod and other devices use for their media. - zerosaber8, on 03/24/2008, -29/+4Cause I've always wanted to watch my BD movies on a 5 inch screen instead of my 37" HD screen.
- macbookhair, on 03/24/2008, -3/+30God forbid you leave your house.
- supermanred, on 03/24/2008, -5/+1I actually LOL'd. Thanks.
Saw your username after I laughed and now I have a strange urge to cover my Macbook with glue and throw hair on it.
- supermanred, on 03/24/2008, -5/+1I actually LOL'd. Thanks.
- deadbaby, on 03/24/2008, -4/+22I'm with you. I recently purchased a vintage Radio Flyer red wagon (see URL below) so I can use my 37" LCD on the go. Installing the UPS and solar panel array was a bit tricky but for well under $5000 I now have a great portable video device. I'm toying with the idea of perhaps installing a PS2 system in the Radio Flyer so I can play games on the go too. I'll keep you updated on my progress.
http://platinumgalleria.com/radio-flyer-trav-ler-w ...- AresDiggs, on 03/24/2008, -2/+8hahahaha i pictured this... oh god my stomach hurts from laughing so much... thank you good sir... you made my day...
- Reziarfg, on 03/24/2008, -2/+14The question is, can you take your 37" HD screen on an airplane? I'd like to see you try!
- thejynxed, on 03/24/2008, -4/+1At the rate US Customs/TSA is going, you might have problems even taking your PSP on a plane soon enough - after all, they have been confiscating laptops and cell phones.
- macbookhair, on 03/24/2008, -3/+30God forbid you leave your house.
- Sabin, on 03/24/2008, -4/+33Will this work for all movies or only if the content provider allows it?
- kingfoot, on 03/24/2008, -2/+39that, my friend, is the right question.
- rocman9, on 03/24/2008, -4/+5I, Robot? Nice.
- chadillak, on 03/24/2008, -2/+19The disc has to have a pre-ripped copy of the film on it (made specifically for PSP). There's no "conversion" involved.
- NTolerance, on 03/24/2008, -10/+3If that's true this whole thing is pointless.
- superkendall, on 03/24/2008, -3/+4Are you sure? The iTunes deal works like that, but this seems more like managed copy which would be more of a transcoding operation.
- supermanred, on 03/24/2008, -8/+1The only "Pre-ripped" movies available on retail discs are the iTunes formatted movies now available, sorry Sony.
- kingfoot, on 03/24/2008, -2/+39that, my friend, is the right question.
- Matri, on 03/24/2008, -16/+4Wait... So you mean this will allow movies to be copied & distributed?
Oh, the MPAA is sooooo gonna love this...- idslite, on 03/24/2008, -0/+13Damn straight they will. Sony will have this DRM'd up the ass.
- fkr3, on 03/24/2008, -2/+11It's not giving you distribution rights, it's allowing you to transfer the movie from your PS3 and Blu-Ray disc to your PSP. That is fair use, and idiots interpreting it as some form of "wow so now I can share it with everyone!" is the kind of attitude makes companies hesitate to do anything awesome like this, and ultimately could kill ideas like this.
- Dgen_X, on 03/24/2008, -5/+1yeah, i agree with idslite...this is going to require nothing short of a secondary DNA scanner add on for both the PSP and PS3, that requires you to give a hair, and blood sample every time you play or record a movie.
Ok...maybe something a little short of the above...but still....DRM all up in the colon. - triplehelix, on 03/24/2008, -0/+2i only mind DRM because it generally interferes with what i want to do with media i bought. if they allow me to do the things i want to do with my media, what exactly is the problem with DRM?
- cthellis, on 03/25/2008, -0/+1It makes you a puppet of the MAN, maaaan...!
- 4d669, on 03/24/2008, -15/+4Something is ***** up in here. I don't know if it's me.
- FireStrife, on 03/24/2008, -4/+12Why Sony doing something that people like is not possible?
- Jeffler, on 03/24/2008, -2/+10It is you.
- GeekyGerge, on 03/24/2008, -0/+3It's a trap!
- 2Deluxe, on 03/24/2008, -7/+87I don't understand all the PS3/PSP hate. Personally I love and play both of mine daily, and with every firmware update usually comes even more value.
Oh well, I guess you guys need something to bitch about or else it just wouldn't be the internets, now would it?- Jeffler, on 03/24/2008, -3/+41Its because some people are idiots and have obsessive loyalties to companies for reasons I'll never understand.
- peregrine, on 03/24/2008, -16/+3Hey bro EVERYONE DISPLAYS LOYALTIES OTHER PEOPLE DON'T UNDERSTAND.
For instance do you have a preference in GM vs Ford? No
Do you always buy the same toothpaste? Do you like a certain band that everyone else hates? Are you in a religion?
The list can go on but I think you see the point. And don't worry I agree theres not a whole lot wrong with the PS3 PSP they are neat, but to display the obvious as some sort of "I do something different then everyone else cause I see the world differently" is a stupid wasteful comment.
Also in your comment you say "some people are idiots" I hope the original commenter realizes he himself is an idiot for bringing this up in the first place. Willingly creating a flame war thats worse then religion? That speaks of asshole to me.- AresDiggs, on 03/24/2008, -1/+14What??... lol
Dude its not that people don't have a preference for a certain brand or product that makes them an idiot... its when a product is better then the product they have a preference for and they ignore it for no reason other then they are a "fanboy" of the "other" brand - bejayel, on 03/24/2008, -4/+5GM, Ford sucks balls.
- specialK16, on 03/24/2008, -3/+2You are right Ares, but you are still an idiot. You are in the sony hate bandwagon for starters, for no reason at all? Something better than the ps3?? The Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Wii are not better, nor the PS3 is better than any of them, it is just a *different* game console, a different choice.
- Jeffler, on 03/24/2008, -1/+1You may prefer a product but you don't ***** attack another product because its not the one you have. Choices should be respected no matter how ***** you think they are.
- AresDiggs, on 03/24/2008, -1/+14What??... lol
- senatorpjt, on 03/24/2008, -5/+4I'm not sure how much is loyalty and how much is dislike. I just don't like Microsoft, I didn't like them before the first XBox was a twinkle in their eyes, it's not a love for Sony or Nintendo that compels me to like the PS3/Wii, it's a dislike of Microsoft that compels me to not like the XBox.
- theaceoffire, on 03/24/2008, -2/+3Funny, its my dislike of the Xbox that makes me not like the Xbox.
Odd.
- theaceoffire, on 03/24/2008, -2/+3Funny, its my dislike of the Xbox that makes me not like the Xbox.
- peregrine, on 03/24/2008, -16/+3Hey bro EVERYONE DISPLAYS LOYALTIES OTHER PEOPLE DON'T UNDERSTAND.
- Smills, on 03/24/2008, -3/+16Indeed, I have an Xbox 360 and a PS3 and a PSP and I love all 3 consoles. It really comes down to the fact that generally a lot of people don't actually play what they are criticising.
- mike17032, on 03/24/2008, -13/+2Its not hate, its just comparing the number of great games between it and the DS. There is a reason the DS is totally and utterly slaughtering it in sales.
- TechCF, on 03/24/2008, -0/+4Funny thing is I have only played Chrono Trigger (an SNES game originally) for the last months on my PSP. It is the PS1 version, but... hehe. Nintendo is better in some ways, but Sony products is great for techies.
- thejumbo, on 03/24/2008, -0/+6I love my PS3, too. I can play an XBOX360 at work, and it was sweet for Gears and Bioshock, while the PS3 is equally as sweet for COD4, Resistance, & Gran Turismo.
Sweet console, awesome interface, incredible capabilities (movies, music, server access, photos, interweb, etc). Now I want a PSP.
- Jeffler, on 03/24/2008, -3/+41Its because some people are idiots and have obsessive loyalties to companies for reasons I'll never understand.
- SonicPower, on 03/24/2008, -5/+28Note: This only works if the movie is already encoded on the disk. Then, you just copy a file from the Blu-Ray disk to the PSP.
This is also only allowed if the movie producer wishes to provide the file.- theaceoffire, on 03/24/2008, -0/+4Source? I am really interested in this, if you have one please share.
- JoCoProductions, on 03/24/2008, -4/+10QJ.net...... the worst blog on the 'net. So unprofessional and unclean and just a joke.
And this is coming from someone that used to pay $25/year for a premium membership.- iceroz, on 03/24/2008, -1/+2i think you're just referring to their forums. O_o
- scxzor, on 03/24/2008, -1/+4Exactly. This is a horribly written story that inaccurately represents what the feature actually is.
- Th3Wiiexpert, on 03/24/2008, -36/+1I'm not a Nintendo or Xbox360 fan boy and I don't mean to put down the PS3 but it bothers me that companies such as Sony make products like these that have lots of features and call them a gaming console. They should just call it a damn computer instead of a gaming system. Transferring ***** movies to a PSP is NOT a game.
- bigbadgoat, on 03/24/2008, -1/+24heaven forbid it might actually do more than play games.
***** added value. How many people do you think would shell out $400 + for a PS3 if it just played games? - insertAliasHere, on 03/24/2008, -1/+20Oh hell, how could you possibly bitch about this? The 360's video marketplace isn't a game. The Wii's internet channel isn't a game. God forbid we may actually do something more than just play a game. For *****'s sake, even the origional playstation played cds.
It's not a bad thing. And for the record, it is a computer. It even has the option of installing another OS. Oh, and it still plays games just fine. Damn, Sony gets something right, and you have to find something to bitch about.
I hate people like you, nothing legitimate to complain about, so you actually search for something. - triplehelix, on 03/24/2008, -0/+3yeah like those dangnabbin car makers putting radios and tv screens, airconditioners and heaters in, and having the gall to call it an automobile!
and don't even get me started on those handset manufacturers that let you play games, listen to music, send text messages, and even watch movies on your phone!
who the hell do they think they are for giving the consumer more bang for their buck! they should have to spend 3 times the money on separate units and clutter up their personal space if they want all that functionality dammit! - fallenone05, on 03/24/2008, -0/+1Th3Wiiexpert, that is the dumbest argument I read today, congratz!

- popfrogs, on 03/24/2008, -2/+12You sold your PSP for sucking? I guess you didn't bother with homebrew, you really missed out. Oh well.
- cthellis, on 03/25/2008, -0/+1Actually, most gamers are so lonely that sucking would be a DEFINITE value-add. As well as blowing.
...so long as you don't mind mucking up the screen, of course.

- dmbchris, on 03/24/2008, -12/+4Wow, EVERY blu-ray movie? Giving how the MPAA usually operates, I highly doubt this. If it is in fact true, I pity the fools that gave Sony the sole right to device-shift. On the other hand, if this sort of thing gets more commonplace, if I can put those movies on my Zune/iPod/Zen with just as much ease, the blu-ray format will take off very quickly in my house.
- scxzor, on 03/24/2008, -1/+2Not every Blu-ray movie. This article completely forgot to mention that.
- colincornaby, on 03/24/2008, -2/+13Works with all supported movies. The article left that part out. So far Sony is the only studio that will be supplying PSP copies.
- joltjake, on 03/24/2008, -13/+3With a 50GB memory stick for the psp?
- popfrogs, on 03/24/2008, -2/+16Yeah, because it'll be in the same 1080p resolution with uncompressed 7.1 audio.
/facepalm- joltjake, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1As if the average user would want to take just one movie with them. Even when the video and audio quality is compressed significantly, flash storage becomes and issue. I suppose since the psp has the battery life of a mid sized weasel, only being able to store one movie is a good idea. So bravo on your arbitrarily douche bag of a comment.
- popfrogs, on 03/24/2008, -2/+16Yeah, because it'll be in the same 1080p resolution with uncompressed 7.1 audio.
- AvidChronos, on 03/24/2008, -8/+1well this wouldn't be streamed like the ps1 games right? I don't think the network's transfer rate is fast enough or at least for both of them to work at the same time. Seems like the psp cant run 333MHz and wireless at the same time or the battery's life is limited.
- fkr3, on 03/24/2008, -1/+5If you're in your home... which you probably would be if you're near your PS3... you could probably try using the power brick on the PSP! Or the usb charger cable maybe?
- HanSolo69, on 03/24/2008, -22/+3Wow. If only the PS3 wasn't useless this would finally be a reason to own a PSP.
- coheedcollapse, on 03/24/2008, -1/+16I'm sorry. What were you saying? I'm too busy laughing at the fact that your screen name combines a Star Wars character and a sexual position.

- TRUEPATRIOT, on 03/24/2008, -1/+11um i think alot of people are misinterpreting this.the portable copy is included on the bluray disk so the ps3 isnt recoding anything its just taking a file off the disk and onto the psp.thats why sony movies are the only ones with the feature so far.

- bigsteve, on 03/24/2008, -1/+2...which will last 6 days because Sony can't get it through their heads that it's physically and mathematically impossible to make an unbreakable protection scheme if a hacker can get his hands on the hardware and the software.

- Stopher, on 03/24/2008, -5/+2That is f'ing awesome. Yeah you can do it yourself but you have to jump through hoops to do it. This sounds easier than handbrake. If you own or rent the disk you should be able to watch it.
- damnyooneek, on 03/24/2008, -11/+1finally some good use for my psp
- TheZorch, on 03/24/2008, -3/+13Microsoft and the rest of the entertainment industry should be watching, this is how you treat your customers. You don't lock them down, you give them choices, options, and the ability to do with their movies what they want to do with their movies. The PS3 is really shaping up to be a noteworthy purchase.
- tehpyro, on 03/24/2008, -8/+2For the record its a borrowed idea... this isn't me as a mac fan going "We did it first we did it first!" It's a regular computer guy going "It's still locked to just the psp and not "do what you want" " On a couple dvds there are ipod ready copies of the movies for only ipods, same deal with these bluray movies... these are psp only meaning that just like itunes, you're locked into a specific brand to play your movies... I say, pick a secure standard across the board and be happy... itll promote both movie and hardware sales because people will be more likely to buy a movie if its more versatile (as in work in a bluray player and a portable device) and people will be more likely to buy a portable device if it can play a version off of the movie they just bought. Now it wont always be a psp that they buy and sony may call that a loss... I call that a win because even if I went out and bought an archos player to play my movies, even though its not sony hardware, I now have a platform that'll encourage me to buy more bluray movies. Now I could buy a psp but if I didn't want one before I don't want one now... now sony has lost both movie and hardware sales instead of just hardware

- Stopher, on 03/24/2008, -4/+6Ughhh. Just read that the disc has to have a psp copy on it. Annoying. Is it too much to ask that when you buy a movie you should be able to put it on your device of choice? They bitch about pirates but they weren't going to buy the thing in the first place so there's no lost revenue. All they is annoy their paying customers. I'm always going to prefer to have some kind of permanant storage version of a movie over a file. It's just convienient and that's why a dvd still beats a bittorrent download. People like having the discs.
- staticneuron, on 03/24/2008, -0/+2Thats what people keep on saying but that doesn't make sense in terms of a PS3 firmware update. It sounds odd for there to be a firmware update for something the PS3 can do already. I really think this is refering to converting the movies since with the media manager from sony you can convert pretty much any dvd, wmv's and quicktime to the psp.
- JudgeMonkey, on 03/24/2008, -0/+1Blah blah blah weren't gonna buy it anyway hoo hoo hoo.
Prove it!
- MasZakrY, on 03/24/2008, -7/+0BUT, can I copy over regular DVD's to my PSP?!
- Archer007, on 03/24/2008, -0/+8Yes.
- tehpyro, on 03/24/2008, -9/+2Here's a killer idea! If you want to stop piracy, stop making drives for computers... i know it sounds stupid but seriously... most people want to watch their Blueray movies i high def with surround... comps usually don't do high def soo well because well lets face it... there are no laptops with high def screens yet, and no laptop with battery power to actually make it through a full BD movie... better yet if you have the cash for a laptop that has upped these 2 things chances are you have the money for a nice system for your living room... Don't make the arguement that you want to back up 25 gigs at once either... unless you are backing up your computer for a reformat, no one wants 25 gigs of unchangeable data. and reformating is a very rare once in a while thing.. get yourself an external hard drive it'll be cheaper than the disc's and burner if you are using them for only that purpose. If they start mass producing BD burners they are asking to be pirated!
- smashhell, on 03/24/2008, -1/+1I am guessing the money they gain from selling drives for computer out balance the cost of piracy. That or they really believe in their Disc protection on their Blue-ray. =)
- moduc, on 03/24/2008, -0/+2There are laptop with high def screen. For the new one, if you order Laptop with blu-ray at Dell, it will ask you for specific video card, so the HDCP will work on the LCD. get your fact straight. What about media PC. I have a Linux PC hooks to a projector. If it can play blu-ray without hack, I would buy a drive for it.
- senatorpjt, on 03/24/2008, -0/+2I guess I'd agree, but for movies you watch multiple times or TV shows on Bluray, you might want to watch it on a portable device.
- samdu, on 03/24/2008, -1/+2My lowly MacBook Gen 1 has a 1280x800 screen. That's better than 720p. Granted it's not 1080p, but it's still HD.
- Wootstapler, on 03/24/2008, -0/+3Your argument is invalid.
- hamGrenade, on 03/24/2008, -1/+2Your argument is broken. I'm a designer and i could easily fill up 25gb disc with files i DON'T want to change. not to mention those of use that have large digitial music collections they would like to have in one place. or maybe photos. or how about people that work with video. do you have any idea how fast raw video devours hard drive space? if you really want to stop movie piracy stop making movies, that's the only way it will happen.
so, in short. STFU & GTFO - sHockz, on 03/24/2008, -3/+2your telling my my dual 8800 GTX's in SLi hooked up to my 52" 1080p set to 1920x1080 resolution isnt true HD on my computer? Are you an idiot? Get rid of drives? Are you stupid? What input would there be then for computers? What output would there be? Do you even know what a computer's functions are? Or are you just some stupid idiot who posted something on a forum where massive amounts of technical savvy people see right through your *****. I just called you out on it.
Oh, laptops have HD screens too, but they dont output in 1920x1080 because when the screen is that small, the resolution difference between 1920x1080 vs. 1440x900 isnt noticeable by the human eye.
And as far as piracy goes, once again, you show you true colors of idiocy. As long as files can be replicated, there will always be piracy.
- mike17032, on 03/24/2008, -15/+1The Sony fantards are sure all over this thread.
- thefurball, on 03/24/2008, -2/+6I never expected this! It doesn't seem to bode too well for UMD though.
- theaceoffire, on 03/24/2008, -0/+5Doesn't matter, they can still use it for their games.
- pikaboy259, on 03/24/2008, -5/+1I don't know how they'll manage, but if it's Sony, expect DRM.
- senatorpjt, on 03/24/2008, -0/+2Probably the same way as games. You activate the PSP on the PS3, you can activate some number of PSP's on each PS3 (don't know how many, i have two on mine).
- Aliarse, on 03/24/2008, -5/+1To all those shouting Divx - Its already supported, providing you have custom firmware + psptube installed.
And really, who the hell still has Official firmware on their PSP's?- selfdisplaced, on 03/24/2008, -0/+4I'm pretty sure what they are shouting DivX just want it officially supported.
For all of those "shouting custom" firmware, stop it. Everyone knows that IF you have it hacked it'll do alot more than it is supposed to. People are wanting these things officially supported.
- selfdisplaced, on 03/24/2008, -0/+4I'm pretty sure what they are shouting DivX just want it officially supported.
- usingpond, on 03/24/2008, -6/+1Haha what? You're already losing quality when you encode from DVD. I guess it's faster and more convenient if you're one of those early adopters who threw everything out but your Blu-Ray collection.
- drewX2, on 03/24/2008, -2/+1What about the fact that it can play video clips larger then 2GB now? I think thats great considering I own a PS3 and not a PSP.
- hotbeefman, on 03/24/2008, -0/+8How can you not digg a positive move by Sony? This owns.
