PS3 Firmware 2.20 to enable "Portable Copy" for PSP

pspupdates.qj.net — On top of supporting BD-Live online content, PlayStation 3 firmware 2.20 will also carry a Portable Copy function. This allows you to convert Blu-ray movies and transfer them to your PSP!

      Seriously, it has been a year and a half since Sony came out with the PS3 and we still have so few games for it. All I keep hearing is "just wait" or a "you'll see" but nothing happened except Sony eliminating every console as well as backwards compatibility. Also - knowing how Sony works (For The Record: they (Sony) sold you a blu-ray player with the PS3 not a "Next-Gen" Gaming Console) I am sure you will eventually have to purchase a new PSP in order for this porting to work.

      So someone please let me know how much longer need we wait on Sony to "WoW" us and the rest of the gaming public?
      • PleaseJustDie, on 03/24/2008, -1/+9You're an idiot, this is about taking MOVIES with you, it recompresses it into MP4 so you can put it on your PSP memory cards which can be played by a generation 1 PSP. I used to convert DVD's to MP4 and play it on my PSP back in the day.

        AND you obviously don't ever look at your PS3, see that option there called Remote Play? PS3 games that support that allow you to use your PSP to play PS3 games on it. It's like a VNC (but better) for your PS3.

        Take a ***** valium and relax a bit. Just because you paid close to $900 or your Mommy and Daddy's (or your own) hard earned dollars to by a Blu-Ray player and that you like to watch movies on a 4" screen does not give you the RIGHT to beat people up.

        With that said - Take your Downloaded Movies on your PSP and Shove is Up your Tight ass until you taste the Jap plastic coming out of your mouth.

The reason I would like the feature is so I could use a regular controller instead of the PSP controls to play the game. The built in controls on PSP are a poor substitute for a console controller. They are fine for when you are on the run, but when I'm at home I'd rather use a sixaxis. I would like support for connecting a sixaxis controller to a PSP as well. Most of my gaming time is at home. I never get through the portable games because I only play them outside of home. If they were to add controller support to the new PSP I would buy one.

Yet they're probably the same people who eagerly purchased a 360 early on so that they could play Halo 3, Mass Effect, and a lot of other games that took 1-2 years to show up, yet were still content to play lots of other good-to-great (and sometimes even mediocre) games in the meantime.

At least the same way the PSP already does so for games, and the iPod and other devices use for their media. Basically, you can tie your PSP to one account/source at a time, and anything that that machine/account is authorized to play your PSP will be able to. It simply means you can't pass things around freely.

          If you don't use it for anything but your own stuff, you really won't notice it's there.

          It's not like BR disks are individually stamped, though. Even if you wanted to use a friend's stuff for a while, you could toss your disk at him and he could rip the movie as well.

Installing the UPS and solar panel array was a bit tricky but for well under $5000 I now have a great portable video device. I'm toying with the idea of perhaps installing a PS2 system in the Radio Flyer so I can play games on the go too. I'll keep you updated on my progress.

I don't think the network's transfer rate is fast enough or at least for both of them to work at the same time. Seems like the psp cant run 333MHz and wireless at the same time or the battery's life is limited.

It's a regular computer guy going "It's still locked to just the psp and not "do what you want" " On a couple dvds there are ipod ready copies of the movies for only ipods, same deal with these bluray movies... these are psp only meaning that just like itunes, you're locked into a specific brand to play your movies... I say, pick a secure standard across the board and be happy... itll promote both movie and hardware sales because people will be more likely to buy a movie if its more versatile (as in work in a bluray player and a portable device) and people will be more likely to buy a portable device if it can play a version off of the movie they just bought. Now it wont always be a psp that they buy and sony may call that a loss... I call that a win because even if I went out and bought an archos player to play my movies, even though its not sony hardware, I now have a platform that'll encourage me to buy more bluray movies. Now I could buy a psp but if I didn't want one before I don't want one now... now sony has lost both movie and hardware sales instead of just hardware

Is it too much to ask that when you buy a movie you should be able to put it on your device of choice? They bitch about pirates but they weren't going to buy the thing in the first place so there's no lost revenue. All they is annoy their paying customers. I'm always going to prefer to have some kind of permanant storage version of a movie over a file. It's just convienient and that's why a dvd still beats a bittorrent download. People like having the discs.

It sounds odd for there to be a firmware update for something the PS3 can do already. I really think this is refering to converting the movies since with the media manager from sony you can convert pretty much any dvd, wmv's and quicktime to the psp.

If you want to stop piracy, stop making drives for computers... i know it sounds stupid but seriously... most people want to watch their Blueray movies i high def with surround... comps usually don't do high def soo well because well lets face it... there are no laptops with high def screens yet, and no laptop with battery power to actually make it through a full BD movie... better yet if you have the cash for a laptop that has upped these 2 things chances are you have the money for a nice system for your living room... Don't make the arguement that you want to back up 25 gigs at once either... unless you are backing up your computer for a reformat, no one wants 25 gigs of unchangeable data. and reformating is a very rare once in a while thing.. get yourself an external hard drive it'll be cheaper than the disc's and burner if you are using them for only that purpose. If they start mass producing BD burners they are asking to be pirated!

For the new one, if you order Laptop with blu-ray at Dell, it will ask you for specific video card, so the HDCP will work on the LCD. get your fact straight. What about media PC. I have a Linux PC hooks to a projector. If it can play blu-ray without hack, I would buy a drive for it.

      Oh, laptops have HD screens too, but they dont output in 1920x1080 because when the screen is that small, the resolution difference between 1920x1080 vs. 1440x900 isnt noticeable by the human eye.

      And as far as piracy goes, once again, you show you true colors of idiocy. As long as files can be replicated, there will always be piracy.
