- PATSCRU, on 10/10/2007, -3/+55Oh snap, PS3 comes through. I think that mouse and keyboard should be implemented for every PS3 fps.
- brianbennett, on 10/10/2007, -2/+39...then you can forget about even trying to compete using a regular controller.
- SfOwnsLa, on 10/10/2007, -1/+34So bluetooth keyboards and mouses will pwn my PS3 controller?
- jacksons98, on 10/10/2007, -2/+22Yes, actually there is no reason not to own a mouse and keyboard for your PS3 anyway. It's nice to have for surfing the web and messaging with your PSN friends.
- lilbitmoreslyk, on 10/10/2007, -13/+32why not just play on the PC then? I'd think it would be rather a pain in the butt to use a mouse/keyboard on my coffee table
- jonesy827, on 10/10/2007, -4/+21The 8800GTS can usually be obtained for 275 or less and it will run games better than the PS3.
- Vandango, on 10/10/2007, -8/+24You actually need someone to explain this to you? Please list me the 500 dollar PC that can run this game.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14Keyboard/mouse worked on UT for the PS2 so no surprise here
- rda52, on 10/10/2007, -8/+21need to buy a ps3...
- guardianzero, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15Hell Yes.
- nsjoker, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13Bah, one of the things I like about console gaming is that everyone has the same hardware allowing for fun and balanced gameplay. I can't see how a Sixaxis would be able to keep pace with KB/Mouse =/
- Silthrim, on 10/10/2007, -5/+16Kind of ruins the point of playing on a console.
- xerus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10If you think only keyboard and mouse makes it better than a PC then... I dont know what to tell you. Yeah, the PS3 can support downloadable user mods, definitely a plus, but how far that will go will determine the worth of that feature. Also the fact that consoles restrict you on changing your graphics settings, customizing the game as far as sound options go, scripts, keybinds, and even the hud all through ini editing probably isn't going to be there for the PS3. One of my favorite things about UT2k4 and UT99 is that you could pretty much edit any setting you wanted just by opening up the ini files, and I'm only going to get that on a PC.
- DiggUmFrog, on 10/10/2007, -4/+13I don't think that mouse and keyboard is a good idea. It completely bum ***** the other people who enjoy using a controller. and who the hell wants to pull out a mouse pad and place a clunky ass keyboard on your lap? argh.
- schoate09, on 10/10/2007, -6/+15Typical 360 fanboy, who is stuck with his inferior joystick using controller.
- xerus, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10PC will always beat consoles for me. If you really want to know all the games, just look around. http://www.gamespot.com/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=24525221 And the fact that there are loads, and loads of free independent games out there also adds to the worth of PC gaming for me. ;D
- h4mx0r, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Rumble would be so damned weird on a keyboard. It'll shake the keys out.
- brolli33, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Graphic Whore much?
- brolli33, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Heh, if you use a keyboard and mouse, get ready to find a table and an arm chair just like pc gamers would. No more laying in your bed =/
- aegis9975, on 10/10/2007, -3/+11Gotta appreciate standard USB slots on the PS3. Nice to have an option between controller & kb/m.
- Anoobis, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8"We'll also allow people to choose whether or not they want to allow mixed controller vs. keyboard/mouse games or not."
http://utforums.epicgames.com/showthread.php?t=574996 - daridave, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7This used to be true. I was wireless, I went back to wired... but nowadays, things are much better. The controllers are wirless too, anyway, so even if there was a lag, it's would have always been there.
- kcchan1, on 10/10/2007, -5/+12I rather pay $300 to buy a 20" monitor I sit 12 inches away from of rather than pay $3000 for a 1080p plasma which I have to sit 12 feet away from, but that's just me.
- idugcoal, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8If PCs are becoming obsolete for gaming, it's only because consoles have progressively been evolving into PCs. You may not have noticed because it's all been happening "under the hood," so to speak. This new "next-gen" idea of using a keyboard and mouse instead of the traditional gamepad is just another step in this direction.
- NeoTechni, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7PS3 can also run linux, it is a PC basically
- Stevethegreat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Sure, by the time UT3 would be out, bet your ass that a 500 buck PC would outdo PS3. That's what was always happening with consoles, that's what'll continue to happen.
In fact since TV sets have become PC monitors, also, I see no purpose on the closed-architecture consoles anymore (minus Wii), I mean a vendor (like HP) can easily make a 500 buck PC optimized for gaming both hardware and software wise, in fact that's exactly what PS3 and Xbox did only close-sourced. The basic idea is to make a 500 buck PC, strap on it an optimised version of Vista for gaming, make a 3rd party program to change the OS from a gaming mode to a PC mode and voila your 500 buck console that doubles as a PC too, no need for seperate devices.
Then again console manufactures want to milk the most money possible and insist that their hardware and software is something different than a regular optimized PC minus its PC functions. If we live in a free economy system I hope a PC vendor show to the console makers who's the boss on the PC territory (that this gen's consoles have trespassed). - stigma15, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10Please elaborate. Just with the OS, a decent case and motherboard/CPU, I would be over $500 not counting DX10 graphics card or RAM.
- Badspeller, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8I'm glad they are putting in this option for people who want it, but if i want to hunch over a keyboard I'll play it on my PC and have access to better mods most likely. I hope they don't use this as an excuse to not have proper game pad support, I just find it more relaxing to sit back and use a game pad even if I'm not top of the kills list
- gamemaster357, on 10/10/2007, -6/+13shut up wanker...
- batmang, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Wow, you really don't know... anything.
- Almadiel, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7They have been saying this from the beginning, not really news.
- coheedcollapse, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8You can buy a cheap USB keyboard and mouse and it'll work just as well. No bluetooth needed.
On another note, this has been confirmed for at least a month. It hit digg when it was first announced. - tastypastry, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5You can get a wireless mouse and keyboard for practically free at Radio Shack. Cost around $10 with a $10 MIR. Don't know how good it is though.
- brolli33, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6More obsolete for gaming? Nps, I can tell you aren't a PC gamer obviously and have never looked into it but its good. If all PS3 FPS's supported Mouse and Keyboard, it would be a different story and it might just be my fav console out of them all for serious gaming.
- modifiedbears, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6You can get a 42" 1080p lcd for $1000.
- jcaino, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7no kidding; that's going to be what it takes to really bridge the gap between worlds anyway.
if nintendo offered a bluetooth keyboard for the wii, life would be sweet. that and mpg/avi playback. there's no reason it can't. - esotericguy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5monito=tv
open source operating system= ubuntu/fedora/yellowdog - thatsiebguy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5And will we see this on the 360? No... grrrrrrrr..... FPS's (and CnC) would be so much more fun on the 360 if I could just WASD.... >:o
- JayRD, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7Great news, now when I play against PS3 owners we will be on an even playing field. Awesome.
- autocrawler, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4The PS3 version ran at 1280x720, 30FPS, medium details at the last E3. 24 players per server hard limit.
PC version is limited only by the graphics hardware in it. Sure, a 8800GTS/GTX system will cost more, but it'll put out a 1920x1080 60FPS, high detail image easily, as per what was demonstrated with GoW PC.
Need more proof?
"We got to see Unreal Tournament III running side by side on PC and PS3. Both versions obviously looked fantastic. However, the incredible resolution of the PC version made it the clearly superior offering."
http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/13/joystiq-impressions-unreal-tournament-iii/ - grumbel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4The problematic part is that it would ruin a games balance. There is a reason why Halo is largely ignored on PCs, while its highly praised on consoles, and with HalfLife2 its the other way around, mostly ignored on consoles, on PC the best game in years.
- s1mph0ny, on 10/10/2007, -4/+8a non-gamer buying a wii, now that's a surprise.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5stfu, nobody cares.
- Kurisuku, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6You missed the point. Vroooom.
Keyboard/mouse may be more accurate, but it's uncomfortable as *****, and in my opinion very anti-gaming.
Plus you buy a console for the controller. If you're going to play keyboard+mouse then just play on your PC, jeez. Why turn consoles into computers? That ruins the experience. Nevermind that while a mouse may give more 'freedom', a keyboard is just as gimpy as a controller. Might as well come up with a Controller+Mouse setup!
It's so ridiculous. Honestly I'm just not going to play the game if it's going to introduce kb/m. You're right, a controller user WILL lose to a kb/m user. That simply means I don't need to waste my money on the game, honestly. - hollismb, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Unless you can filter by control type, I wouldn't even bother buying the game if you like to use a controller then. Being able to play Quake on the Dreamcast with a mouse and keyboard ruined it for those who didn't.
- alvinrod, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Not really, actually makes it worthwhile to play on the console instead of just getting the PC version. I think anyone who's ever been serious about FPS games and has used the keyboard mouse combo would immediately choose to use it over a clunky controller setup. I enjoy FPS games from time to time, but I've never been able to really get into them on consoles because the control feels so much more clumsy than the PC version.
Add in the fact that the PS3 version will also support custom mods and it's about as good as the PC version.
Hopefully they'll be doing the same for the Xbox 360 version. - washboard, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4I don't really see what all the fuss is about. All it means is that if you decide to play with a keyboard and mouse online, you play vs other people with a keyboard and mouse. Likewise if you use the gamepad.
By keeping the different control schemes separated for online play, you solve all the problems of imbalance. Its not as ideal as having everyone playing everyone else, but it is the simplest solution that does not lead to compromising any one control scheme. - Sutanreyu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Uh... Linux?
- jacksons98, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4It could but Microsoft likes to rule the X360 world with an Iron fist. So it's possible. Will it happen? doubtful.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4k&m ftw. Except i got a 360 :(
