- doshindude, on 03/30/2009, -19/+84Dear God, let it die already.
- splinter09, on 03/30/2009, -4/+61I'll finally be able to afford a PS2, thanks Sony.
- maxwashere, on 03/30/2009, -0/+52I get so paranoid around April Fool's day.
- Deeaannooo, on 03/30/2009, -3/+53I bet this will make PS2 outsell PS3 again for a while!!
- Sebthelodgemn, on 03/30/2009, -1/+51*Only* $99? The thing has been out for like a ***** decade already.
- plecostomus, on 03/30/2009, -3/+43I got excited and then I realized it said PS2.
- GroundIsSound, on 03/30/2009, -9/+45Internet leaks appear to confirm PS3 price drop NEVER.
- Xpletive, on 03/30/2009, -4/+33PS2? who gives a *****?
Where's our PS3 price drop they've been "reporting" for about 5 months now? - reyoo30309, on 03/30/2009, -2/+27It's been 70$ at gamestop for the longest time I think it even dropped down to 50 during the holidays.
If you don't have a ps2 by now either you don't want one or you don't have a job (at least not a job in a developed country.) - DraconWolf, on 03/30/2009, -2/+25I don't get the anger here...The PS2 is actually a GREAT console with hundreds of good games to play that are dirt cheap. There is actually still plenty of penetration available for the PS2. There are lots and lots of people who don't own a single console now who this would be great for. If you didn't have a video game console and didn't want to invest in the 360 or PS3 then this is a wonderful way to get into gaming.
- CaptRage, on 03/30/2009, -2/+23Is is just me that wants a $99 PS3?
- kolop1, on 03/30/2009, -2/+22What about the PS3?
- Dohko_Xar, on 03/30/2009, -5/+23or have better things to spend your money on
- reyoo30309, on 03/30/2009, -0/+18God : My child, if you want it done right you must do it yourself.
- ProfChaosOmega, on 03/30/2009, -0/+15Someone's got a sandy vag.
- lynx44, on 03/30/2009, -0/+15I thought the slim PS2s had ethernet built in?
- FredFredrickson, on 03/30/2009, -10/+25At this point, I doubt there will ever be a time in the PS3's lifespan where the PS2 won't outsell it.
Call me names, bury me, whatever. Just callin' it how I see it. - ManUnitdFan, on 03/30/2009, -0/+12I believe that's why he said "LIKE a ***** decade," not "a decade to the ***** day."
If he had said the latter, you might have grounds to call him on it, although not in such a ***** way. But he didn't. So, whatever giant multi-pronged thing is up your ass, pull it out. - Maturola, on 03/30/2009, -0/+11They CAN"T let it die when it makes more Money (Net profits and not Net sales) than the current flag product. is all about business and not about "hardware" or "popularity"
- Zamfir, on 03/30/2009, -3/+14...but you can't afford it. ask for more allowance.
- CoD4, on 03/30/2009, -2/+12people sometimes just don't appreciate funny comments
- alamedaman, on 03/30/2009, -1/+11yeah but a second controller will still be 30 bucks
- gianthorse, on 03/30/2009, -1/+10hey douchebag...
"The PS2 initially sold well partly on the basis of the strength of the PlayStation brand and the console's backward compatibility, selling over 980,000 units by March 5, 2000, one day after launch, in Japan"
March 4, 2000 - March 30, 2009 > 9 years = easily recognized as a decade.
Read some ***** before you open your mouth again. - daycaremassacre, on 03/30/2009, -2/+11a PS2 coupled with a PS3 price drop would grab a lot of attention.
.....But knowing Sony, it's not going to happen - Narishma, on 03/30/2009, -0/+8My point is it's not worth the trouble for the few games you can play on it when you can just buy a PS2 for $100 or less.
- ivosilva, on 03/30/2009, -3/+11Ahaha, it's funny to see those same 360 fanboys burying you.
- jacksons98, on 03/30/2009, -1/+9Good deal, you can't beat the PS2 for the price.
- ManUnitdFan, on 03/30/2009, -2/+10They're still selling a bajillion units a year. Why would they drop the price now? That doesn't make much business sense.
- alvination, on 03/30/2009, -0/+7Waiting for Dreamcast to drop their price to 20 bucks.
- computershack, on 03/30/2009, -2/+9Get *****. You cannot beat having a PS2 hooked up to a 7" display in a car.
- phylum, on 03/30/2009, -3/+10but so will the "used" ps2's drop in price. (maybe $45)
kinda sucks thats all there gonna do,nothing like online capability of the ps3 and xbox. - raitchison, on 03/30/2009, -0/+7Hmm I may have to pick one of these up, our PS2 still sees regular use (probably >8 hours this weekend alone) but the drive is flaky.
Originally I had planned on holding onto it until we got a PS3, then we could retire the PS2 to Grandmas house, of course now Sony no onger makes PS3s that can play PS2 games so I should probably grab an extra PS2 so we can still play our games if/when our PS2 finally dies. - xino, on 03/30/2009, -1/+8@ivosilva I don't doubt that there are X360 fanboys burying him, but there are other reasons to bury him like him saying that it isn't important that PS3 starts pwning the competition for a few years. While I'm sure PS2 is making them lots of good money, I don't think that makes it less important for Sony to try to start pwning the competition now because if people, who don't have either X360 or PS3 now, decide on X360 some time in a year or 2, they will probably just stick with X360 because they already spent the money and they won't consider spending money on switching to PS3.
- dafragsta, on 03/31/2009, -0/+6Aaah, the old high ground.
- Agrajag, on 03/30/2009, -1/+7That's because instead of a place to plug in said adapter, it has a conveniently-placed RJ-45 ethernet port.
- Crimsoneer, on 03/30/2009, -1/+7Why do they care? The PS2 is still selling pretty damn well...
- ivosilva, on 03/30/2009, -1/+7You're half right.
But PS2 won't be for sale forever. Sony knows it very well. - Binarysolo, on 03/30/2009, -2/+7Funny that you laugh at Xbox fanboys yet you actually CARE about Sony's profits. Unless you actually own Sony stock that alone makes you a flaming fanboy with no grounds to label others a fanboy. Wouldn't current generation (PS3) hardware and software be more imporant to an actual gamer than company profits you'll never see a cent of?
Nah games are way down the list of your priorities right? First most important thing is that your "TEAM" wins internet braging points... Last on the list is actual quality software. No big deal right because console generations last for 10 years not 5 or 6. The next Xbox and Playstation won't be out until 2016 so Sony has PLENTY of time to start "wtfpwning the competition". Then you woke up and the black box you worship is still solidly in last place.
Hot corporation monkey loving FTW! - nmezib, on 03/30/2009, -0/+5hooly *****. wow.
"Thx for showing your moron skills tho. Neat the *****-o."
No... thank YOU! - Narishma, on 03/30/2009, -0/+5It also doesn't work correctly if you don't have a high end machine and a ton of time to configure it, and even then it still only plays a few games.
- donte, on 03/30/2009, -2/+7While I can appreciate this move and that they aren't just letting the PS2 go to the graveyard just yet, it seems like they're trying to stop the bleeding in their arm by putting a band-aid on their foot. Address your PS3 pricing issues, Sony. Time to take your head out of the sand and realize that the 360 and Wii are going to bury you if you don't.
- ToastPop, on 04/17/2009, -2/+7For some reason this makes me happy to know that the PS2 lives on :) It's like saving your dog from having to be put down.
- XxtraLarGe, on 03/30/2009, -0/+5Ditto. Right now you can go in to a lot of places and pick up brand new quality PS2 titles for $10-$15. I just got Beyond Good & Evil for $5 (http://tinyurl.com/d63l9a). I usually try to stay a generation behind on my game consoles because it makes gaming a lot more affordable.
- mehtheinfernal, on 03/30/2009, -0/+5Yeah, it's the poor man's console of choice right now. With a huge library of games, most of which can be purchased for the price of a value meal at some fast food chain.
I passed over the PS2 when it came out, but recently bought one used at ebay for cheap. Bought some cheap rpgs and classics that will give me tons of play time. For less than $100 for the whole package it feels like a great deal to me. (This from a PC gamer who still owns five consoles.) - SpeedSteamBoat, on 03/30/2009, -2/+7Note to isage, the Year 1997 called and it wants its sarcastic insult back.
- petebot, on 03/30/2009, -1/+6Cool story, Hansel.
- xino, on 03/30/2009, -0/+4For anyone that would rather have a fat PS2 over the slim one, make sure it's nothing older than SCPH-50000. Gamestop told me once they now consider every model before SCPH-50000 broken when they buy used ones from people even if it works fine because they had so many problems with them. Some people would say "Why not just get a slim one?" and the some of the answers are stuff like mods and want to be able to use the HDD for games like Resident Evil Outbreak, Socom 2 or 3 (I forget which one), and FFXI.
For those of you wanting a used slim one, be sure to stay away from the SCPH-75001 because they are incompatible with a number of PS2 games and a bunch of PS1 games. Here's the list.
http://www.us.playstation.com/News/ConsumerAlerts/ ... - ScionX, on 03/30/2009, -0/+4Didn't they remove backwards compatability?
- lfrankow, on 03/30/2009, -1/+5ditto.
- xino, on 03/30/2009, -0/+4Who would have ever thought that a game system that was made before blu-ray wouldn't have blu-ray? /sarcasm
