- theaceoffire, on 02/14/2008, -2/+31The theory is that when you hit the PS button, you can see the xmb menu, possibly rewritten to remove useless items. Optional benefits could include changing game settings in game (God that would rock), playing custom music instead of the same stuff from the locoroco thing, and anytime video/audio/text communications.
- lartones, on 02/14/2008, -3/+27I basically just want the in game xmb for music purposes, anything other than that would be a bonus.
- kingmanic, on 02/14/2008, -0/+24'I swear the fanboys have gotten worse this generation.'
You're just older. Fanboys have always been annoying. - TheRascalKing, on 02/14/2008, -3/+25Dugg for "Youtube: Puppy vs. Robot!" tab in screenshot.
- staticneuron, on 02/14/2008, -6/+24So by your guys logic sony doing something similar means that they are copying? ........ So the whole concept of xbox being a copy of other console that came before it is an invalid comparison? Dual analogs? 4 triggers?
I swear the fanboys have gotten worse this generation. - estacado, on 02/14/2008, -16/+34What is XMB?
- charlescheese, on 02/14/2008, -1/+18This will be across all games. Developers already have the ability to add it into their game if they want, and some have.
- bigbadgoat, on 02/14/2008, -1/+17I think they called them trophies, and I believe they'll be introduced when "home" goes live, since a large part of home is to have your own trophy room, so people can go gawk at your e-peen.
- postalblowfish7, on 02/14/2008, -1/+16cross media bar - started in the PSP and carried on into the PS3. it's the UI - a long bar of icons that expand up and down.
- deepbrown, on 02/14/2008, -2/+16Ingame messagin pleeease! I don't want to quit Warhawk to get someone to play :( Or organize which game to go to!
- Cyber_Akuma, on 02/14/2008, -1/+14Seems likely that chat will be through the XMB instead of in-game if you chose to go that route, similar to the way in works in Live right now, you can choose to talk in the game itself or disconnect your headset from the game and enter a chatroom through the Live blade.
- bejayel, on 02/14/2008, -1/+13Cross Media Bar. The playstations equivalent of Blades for the 360.

- AddamXavier, on 02/14/2008, -0/+11totally agree. I'm planning to upgrade my HDD to a 250GB at some point and load all my music on it. it'd be awesome if i could use that in game.
- GeorgeWKush, on 02/14/2008, -4/+15I'm hoping one day I will learn who shot JFK through an accidental web site posting.
- BearinG, on 02/14/2008, -1/+11Bah, unless you have it, you don't know what you're missing... no, its not a big deal.. but its still nice to have Achivements pop-up when you do something good.. Obviously it depends on the game dev. and if they have made them more meaningful or not.. some suck.. some are awesome (funny even)..
I never understood why people complain about gamepoints/achievements.. why NOT have them?! Maybe its just trying to find something bad to say about the "other" console. Not saying its useful or necessary.. but does that mean that they should remove it caus some don't care about them? (even though alot of people enjoy them)
I'm sure if sony added them, people would call it a "bonus" too - Cutter20, on 02/14/2008, -13/+23Yes, but will they add meaningless Gamerpoints?
- tacroy, on 02/14/2008, -1/+10Yup. So its cool that competition is making products better. Hopefully this will lead to 360 added more cool things to keep themselves ahead.
- GawtMilk, on 02/14/2008, -0/+9Jack : Some times you've got to take things that work perfectly and change them just to make them your own.
Liz : Ah, I see. So your job is to take things that already work and fix them? You've got a great job! - cthellis, on 02/14/2008, -1/+10That would certainly be nice. I'd rather have FRICKIN CONTROLLER AUTO-SLEEP, however.
- Synthesize, on 02/14/2008, -6/+15I just want in-game XMB with voice messaging, private chat and custom soundtracks. Xbox 360 has been doing this since launch.
- AlKo, on 02/14/2008, -1/+10dugg for Domo-kun
- inactive, on 02/14/2008, -3/+12Didn't Sony promise "entitlements" years ago. Whatever became of that?
- Soapskid, on 02/14/2008, -1/+10Yes, music purposes is a plus!
- cheddercheese19, on 02/14/2008, -6/+14Will it be up to developers to include chat, or is the feature being added across all games?
- jacksons98, on 02/14/2008, -8/+16Don't act like Xbox Live is perfect because Playstation Network is doing some things a lot better. For example including support for MODS with Unreal Tournament, supporting big online games like Warhawk and Resistance with 32 players and 40 players, not having to be online to play my downloaded purchases, etc...
- DivisibleByZero, on 02/14/2008, -3/+11Hey, maybe now I'll be able to actually go into the settings and reconnect my bluetooth headset without exiting the game when Warhawk suddently forgets it there...
- Number23, on 02/14/2008, -5/+13How about a fix so the controller doesn't disconnect when you play a ps2 game?
- hektur, on 02/14/2008, -0/+8Actually it started in the PSX.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XrossMediaBar - mattyice11, on 02/14/2008, -1/+8Blades aren't part of the in-game GUI.
- chaosium, on 02/14/2008, -0/+7It was slightly annoying in the Genesis versus SNES days, but it was pretty much nonexistent in the NES days. Yeah a few people had the SMS but it was more "wow, neat!" and not an extension of their identity.
- Drekken79, on 02/14/2008, -0/+6I always turn my headset off and back on in Warhawk and it picks it up. No need to exit game, but that feature would be a nice add!
- cthellis, on 02/14/2008, -1/+7Probably, but it'll be a free, amusing environment to poke your head around in if you want. And if you're intrigued enough to waste a few bucks on microtransactions, so much the better.
All the systems are looking for ways to pull a few random bucks from bored gamers, whether it's ancient emulated titles, themes and icons, to whatever Home tries to monetize. At the very least, Home looks more INTERESTING than the other options, while being exactly time-wastey as the rest.
There's no necessity to spend money on it, and while you'll certainly be fed ads within the environment, I far prefer that to getting fed ads directly on the main menu. Home is a strictly optional environment for anyone who wants to check it out, and it will likely have scads of free pointless stuff (certainly "branded" advertising stuff) as well in the way Second Life does.
Certainly if anyone cares about and is looking for a "Gamerscore" equivalent, they're not going to find it here, though. Trophies will probably be neat, but ultimately pointless and unwieldy to show off. (Unless they tie it in with your friend's list, so they could quickly tap an option and see what trophies you have outside the Home environment.) - mrSimon, on 02/14/2008, -3/+9"Friends & Messaging: Talk to others during game play, say hello anytime you’re online, or have a video chat with an Eye camera, USB Camera, or headset."
Talking to others during gameplay will be just that, voice chat. The regular stuff you've had already with Resistance and Burnout Paradise. "Saying hello anytime" will just be that video app. You go online, you say hi....
I don't interpret this as in-game XMB not one bit. The whole rumour drive is as accurate as their statement that you can have a video chat with a headset... - BearinG, on 02/14/2008, -1/+6What the hell are you talking about?
I own a 360 and i think its great that the PS3 is getting this stuff.. its one thing that I like about my 360 and I have no doubt that will be enjoyed by alot of PS3 users.
And what do you know about the typical PS3 gamer? Do you mean "you and your brother" don't care about these features? .. then you go ahead and say its only for geeks and nerds, yet you say that XBL has the most user friendly service..
Just shut up man, you don't speak for everyone. - inajeep, on 02/14/2008, -1/+6While said w/ sarcasm, it's still true. It is a bit amazing it hasn't already been added in.
- fudsak, on 02/14/2008, -1/+6I know you're right but god damn I want you to be wrong.
- mwalker05, on 02/14/2008, -2/+7i think they are fun. they add a creative aspect to the development of the game and can cheer you up for unlocking a random achievement after epic failure on your part.
- jacksons98, on 02/14/2008, -0/+4@Soulhuntre
Devil May Cry 4 runs better on PS3 so I guess the standard Harddrive is a plus too, but I was referring to Blu-ray the optical drive which makes games like Uncharted and Ratchet and Clank possible. Both superior to anything on X360. - Ohidjwae, on 02/14/2008, -0/+4Yeah, it makes me wonder if anyone read the article before commenting. . . I don't think this is in any way a confirmation of in-game XMB access. Would be nice, and will probably come at some point, but this isn't it.
- teejer, on 02/14/2008, -0/+4i believe you're referring to Sony's achievement equivalent, aptly entitled "trophies."
- xTRUMANx, on 02/14/2008, -4/+8If it ain't broke...
- theaceoffire, on 02/14/2008, -1/+5They have pulled off the 10 year thing before, are currently doing it with the ps2. I see no reason to doubt them on the ps3.
- BearinG, on 02/14/2008, -0/+4If they do it, they really should do "everything in-game"..I mean if you're gonna do it, make it complete..
- inactive, on 02/14/2008, -1/+4Oswald killed him under hypnosys.
- sonicjosh, on 02/14/2008, -0/+3I don't want to pay 50$ a year because I can almost buy a whole other game for that.
Easy enough to play with friends on Ps3, especially if their all ready playing my game, like Cod4; if there not I can call them, instant message them, or send them a message thru the PSN, they can see the subject, I'm not carrying on a conversation with them. - deepbrown, on 02/14/2008, -1/+4Same thing. You have to bring up the XMB for ingame messaging. Plus what else would you want out of an ingame XMB other than chat and soundtracks? It's just a buzz word for the same thing.
- MrInquisitive, on 02/14/2008, -4/+7puppy vs robot haha.
- OrangeTide, on 02/14/2008, -0/+3XrossMediaBar. Sony's fancy multimedia GUI. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XMB
- Arkz, on 02/14/2008, -2/+5loading playlists over your home network on the fly FTW! been able to do this since day 1 on 360 and i love it, bout time i could do it on PS3 too, hope this is added by the time GT5 comes out, i love playing racing games and rocking out to my own music.
