Come on everyone please digg the coders Digg submission - soopergooman, on 01/14/2008, -2/+31He's done it again to sony. he gives us better updates than they do. now lets hope someone can crack that ps3.
- JazzFlight, on 01/14/2008, -1/+14This is good news, but you might want to wait until Dark Alex releases his 1.5 kernel upgrade to 3.80 M33 if you have a fat (original) PSP, otherwise a lot of your homebrew won't work.
- PhreakAccident, on 01/14/2008, -2/+14This team simply rocks! I know they choose to release these to the community for free, and for that I am thankful. If they ever choose to stop because those who create rumors hate.... I would just hope they make it subscription based. For it would be truly worth it! Gonna have to Paypal a donation!
- uncommonsmoke, on 01/14/2008, -1/+13The delay scared me for a bit there, but I knew DAX would pull through. Thanks DAX
- glasgowm, on 01/14/2008, -1/+12Dugg that - burried this.
- z00k, on 01/14/2008, -0/+11Thank you for pointing this out!
- diggdowner, on 01/14/2008, -0/+10Yeah, well, no one wants a bricked PS3... and there's no "PS3 Pandora Battery" either. :/
- PleaseJustDie, on 01/14/2008, -3/+12Does the PS3 really need to be cracked since you can install another OS onto it? I mean if you really want to run homebrew applications on it just install Linux...
- jrizzo, on 01/14/2008, -0/+8For the love of god, Sony just needs to give OtherOS access to the graphics card. Then you could play PC games on your PS3 - oh wait...that might aid their compeditor, M$...
- mywhitenoise, on 01/14/2008, -0/+7Have fun downloading a 50GB disc.
- inactive, on 01/14/2008, -0/+7you mispelled ftl. That's ok. I forgive you.
- inactive, on 01/14/2008, -0/+6Pc games with 256MB of Ram? What are playing? Half life 1 or something?
- thecheatah, on 01/14/2008, -2/+8Yes it still needs to be cracked. For linux we only have 256 mb ram and no video support.
- grumbel, on 01/14/2008, -1/+7Framebuffer Support is there, what is lacking is 3D support.
- bnolsen, on 01/14/2008, -0/+5Yes the rsx has to be accessible to make the PS3 useful for linux as a media box. Otherwise there are bad video display issues (slow).
- hartley, on 01/14/2008, -0/+5what's funny is the scene "drama" they are talking about is partially about this right here. silly "news" sites getting the ad revenue off of their hard work. which is why the release has only officially been released on dark-alex.org, and further updates will be enabled through network update.
- inactive, on 01/14/2008, -0/+4how about straight divx support?
- Visnik, on 01/14/2008, -0/+4To both makaveli604 and hasansexy,
Dark Alex, regardless of his chosen net name, unlike you two who are obviously original and great thinkers, has continuously made a good product overwhelmingly awesome, time and again, for free. What have you to two done?.......Oh I know, one jerks off, while the other reads a book, and think he is better then the wold, because he gained some knowledge.
You guys are so much cooler online, I am sure of it, I am on my way to myspace to go find you guys so I can be called, DarthHitler and be like you guys.
get a clue dudes. - TechCF, on 01/14/2008, -0/+4Well, I use my PS3 as a backup computer. Real nice to have firefox and openoffice ready in case of computer problems (if my main ubuntu workstation will ever get that)
- bnolsen, on 01/14/2008, -0/+4They're suggesting people upgrade their homebrew to work with newer kernels and not use the ancient 1.5 kernel as base. I'm not sure about the details, like if this firmware will work with 2.x compat homebrew or not.
- GuyHersh, on 01/14/2008, -0/+4He did, but then came back under the code name Team M33, and about a month after that, Dark_AleX admitted that he was M33. I guess he couldn't leave the PSP scene. He must love doing what he does.
- JayD16, on 01/15/2008, -0/+3I use it to stream things in VLC in the rare occasion TVersity can't.
- bnolsen, on 01/14/2008, -0/+3He hid himself behind the "russian M33 group". He came out of the shadows a few months back. One of his big efforts was the "pandora" battery which is likely why we'll see a psp hardware v3.0 coming out soon.
- blankoboy, on 01/15/2008, -0/+3Great stuff! Can't wait until the next firmware (4.00?) with Skype included gets the DarkAlex treatment.
- serpentor, on 01/14/2008, -0/+3He left at one point, but was never really "gone", he just continued his work under the code name M33.
- matriculated, on 01/14/2008, -0/+3DA never quit - he went underground under the M33 guise. The drama concerns Maxconsole and other sites profiting from his work.
- PoisonCandyGram, on 01/14/2008, -1/+4Buried for not linking directly to the source article.
- MarkOfTheDead, on 01/14/2008, -0/+2Popstation GUI will do everything for you including unpacking to ISO and recompiling the psp game menu wallpaper, icon, and sound into your eboot. It's a great utility. you can get it at dl.qj.net
- MatchStick, on 01/14/2008, -2/+4nah, he's back... he never really left. And the drama is that people are stealing his code and passing it off as their own, even making money it (installing it for a fee, etc.).
- MarkOfTheDead, on 01/14/2008, -1/+3Nah he was just taking a break, he also released despartar del cementerio to unbrick psp's after his "retirement"
- kayvee, on 01/14/2008, -0/+2If you are already running 3.80 M33 just use the network update
- Sabin, on 01/15/2008, -0/+2Would be nice but at 333MHz its not likely to happen without re-encoding a lot of the stuff you download anyways. It is rumoured to be in 4.00 but thats only because of Divx getting added to the PS3, there is no real evidence to back this up.
- roxya, on 01/15/2008, -0/+2I wouldn't be surprised if DA finds a way to get Skype on the fat.
- dansmeek, on 01/15/2008, -0/+2If anyone reads this.... I am desperately trying to get CFW on my PSP slim. I am not a tech-newbie, and really understand the hardware and all that.... rather... I can't understand the "How-to" guides for CFW that are all written by 12 year olds.
What I do I have is a Pandora's Battery I made from a PSP Slim (I did this by opening it up (the battery), and messing with the circuit board and soldering)... and a magic memory stick duo that is *NOT* working. The reason I think it is not working, is nothing happens when my PSP powers up (just a blank screen, but it *does* power up when I put the PSP battery in automatically).
I only have access to these operating systems: Windows Vista, and Mac OS X. I believe all the guides to create a magic memory stick duo are made with Windows XP in mind.
IF *ANYONE* can help me, please e-mail me at "blackjesusxxl@gmail.com" or respond in this post. I believe that DIGG is my only chance at having CFW, which.... at this point, I am almost about to completely give up on......
Thanks for anyone that replies. - uncommonsmoke, on 01/14/2008, -1/+3Actually yes. You can use the Pandora Battery (Search Google) but it requires a psp that can boot homebrew.
- inactive, on 01/14/2008, -0/+2No.
- Dracusis, on 01/14/2008, -0/+1Where's you get that info from? I googled about but there's no way to install Linux on the PSP *without* hacking it.
- stevealford, on 01/14/2008, -0/+1Pandora's Battery and Magic Memory Stick.
- jdevilz, on 01/14/2008, -1/+2i totally didn't even think to use the network update...would have been nice, but I went the old fashioned way
- MarkOfTheDead, on 01/14/2008, -0/+1Mess with the ID numbers, and don't take it for granted if it does work, as my "working" re-id'd eboot would freeze up towards the end when ada wong has to go through the nasty sewer pipe with the big fan. It's more a popsloader issue than firmware. I tried messing with it but unfortunately once you switch the ID you can't switch your game save ID to match it without corrupting and crashing the file so I put it down for a while and will probably pick it up again as there is a good ID found for it but it was in some odd forum I found on google, I think it started with a 5 or had several 5's in it.
- darthzero, on 01/14/2008, -0/+1Wait... So I can ONLY use pandora Battery if my psp can run homebrew... But if My PSP is An OFW 3.80 Then there's nothing (that At least I can find) that would let it work... So, in other words... It's hopeless...?
- diggdowner, on 01/14/2008, -1/+2Apparently he's "retired" more than a few times...
- pilot101, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1Yes, just get your self a magic mem and pandora battery. It will wipe out your ofw and put in cfw. Then you can do whatever you want.
- magusat999, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1They tell you all about how to do it at the website.
- JayD16, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1You're wrong on so many levels even if the idea of your statement is true. The PS3 will never run PC games because its not an X86 proc. Running PC games on the PS3 HURTS Microsoft because you're cutting them out of the equation unless you're only playing games for windows or something. The main reason its restricted is because if anyone could make and distribute games it would be extremely hard for Sony to collect licensing fees. Everyone would just make linux games *optimized for the cell chip.*
- darthzero, on 01/14/2008, -0/+1Ahh... I see.. So if i can find a Pandora battery (compatible with Slim, of course) on say... eBay then I can downgrade it and etc? I have a spare memory stick tho from what i hear it's still re usable... So to clarify myslef, I dont need to have a hombrew enabled PSP to run a Pandora battery, only to make it?
- NeonFire, on 01/19/2008, -0/+1Learning to type out your words correctly for the win!
- Hockey37, on 01/14/2008, -5/+6I don't follow the PSP scene, but I thought Dark Alex retired. I assume that's where the PSP scene drama comes in?
- darthzero, on 01/14/2008, -0/+1Anything I can do to get it to work?
