- Rev0lver, on 01/08/2008, -3/+11Excuse the double post, but I've also got to add that it would be no surprise if Konami decided to not port MGS4 to the 360. Substance did very poorly both as a game and in terms of sales, too; so much that they didnt even bother to port Subsistence to the Xbox. Also, I'm sure a lot of it boils down to Kojima's say on the matter. I dont think the prospect of getting 50 GB's worth of textures and audio to fit onto a DVD-DL is all to appealing to Kojima - especially considering this IS his swan song. Call me a fanboy, but I just don't see it happening.
- bigbadgoat, on 01/08/2008, -0/+7that 50 gb uninstalled, so for speed they dont compress it
- Zamfir, on 01/07/2008, -6/+13For now and forever... yes.
- Azimuth1, on 01/08/2008, -3/+9That's because there were five times as many PS2s on the market than Xboxes. When there are twice as many 360s out there as PS3s, the situation is very different.
Also - 50GB? What? Crysis is 12GB. GTAIV is less than 9.4GB. - cusoman, on 01/08/2008, -0/+4Seriously enough of this. In the end, does it really matter? Play a game because you like it, period. If that means getting a different system, big deal. There are easily a number of games across both platforms that addresses everyone's gaming needs. At this point, hearing these "stories" is about as worthwhile as a story saying "Halo 4 is Xbox Exclusive!"
Drop it. - Rev0lver, on 01/08/2008, -2/+4MGS has a massive fanbase in Europe and Asia. Simultaneous worldwide release = massive money for Konami. PS3 looks like it'll own this year too - lots of good titles coming out for it. Meanwhile, M$ is busy porting all its "exclusives" to the PC.
- Mullinsmcd, on 01/08/2008, -0/+2I agree with what you say, but ultimately companies are there for the shareholders. 18 months down the line I wouldn't be surprised if theres an "Improved" version (with possibly longer load times) on the X360 but it won't matter by then considering the other great games that will be out on both systems at that time (along with talks of the next generation console).
For the record I am a PS3 owner and I will be buying day one. The more I see the hardware sales increasing, I have less and less doubt about MGS4 selling 1 million on day one. Its fair to say that 9-10% of all PS3 owners, not including those who will buy one that day, will go and buy the biggest and most hyped release so far. - Rev0lver, on 01/08/2008, -3/+5Sounds good. I cannot wait for this game.
- Rev0lver, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1Additionally, Kojima has requested the use of double layered BRDs for the game.
- Nobi-Wan, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1Rev0lver, you're missing his point. All those people who already had MGS2 for the PS2 didn't want to re-buy the game for a new, unproven system. The PS2 already had the PS1 that preceded it and the Xbox was still trying to find it's way. Of course it wasn't going to do as well with such a small install base.
- Abno, on 01/08/2008, -2/+3We were also fine with CD's until the PS2/Xbox came out.
Nobody is saying developers have to use that much space, but there's been a good amount of PS3 exclusives that are taking advantage of the extra space while there's also been some developers struggling with the smaller capacity of DVD (Assassin's Creed). - Akaji, on 01/08/2008, -1/+2High resolution textures can take a lot of space if the environments and characters are varied enough. Add in all of the voicing, sounds, models, and the game itself... I can definitely see a game reaching 50 GB.
- Nobi-Wan, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1Two, what's your point?
That's one game.
And it's an RPG.
MGS4 is not an RPG with tons of prerendered CGI cutscenes and 60+ hours of gameplay. - Shogi, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1What is this, like the 18th article this month about MGS4 being exclusive?
- Nobi-Wan, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1I totally see your point and agree with you. The only difference being that Microsoft owns the rights to any and all Halo games and characters. Sony does not own any part of the Metal Gear Solid franchise, Konami does.
- Nobi-Wan, on 01/08/2008, -1/+1Right. Konami sure as hell isn't going to announce a 360 version in the works if there is one.
1) They're probably being paid a LOT by Sony to keep it under wraps and to have an exclusivity deal for a certain time period (like GTA)
2) Konami wants huge day 1 sales for the game. If a 360 version is announced there are going to be a lot of holdouts for the less expensive system and proven online experience. They probably want to go into day 1 sales with an untainted release about a possible other version coming at a later time because they can't judge sales figures fairly with an announcement of that kind.
3) Microsoft sure isn't going to announce it, either. They don't want to screw themselves over if Konami does choose to bring it to their system.
Either way I'm sure we'll find out months after the game is finally released so don't expect any kind of announcement until maybe Christmas 2008 or something. Until then it's all just retarded speculation. - mywhitenoise, on 01/08/2008, -1/+1How many discs is Blue Dragon?
- ChristianBk, on 01/08/2008, -1/+1Xbots - give it a rest. Buy a PS3 like the rest of us to enjoy this GOTM (game of the millennium)
- Nobi-Wan, on 01/08/2008, -2/+1No we weren't. Games were taking up anywhere from 2 - 4 discs.
- KingGoonie, on 01/08/2008, -5/+3When he say "own" you must mean owning a distant third place...
- NGliam, on 01/08/2008, -4/+2Well said nobi, but that will be a year+ in time. At the very least, it's a PS3 game that'll be ported to 360 rather than the other way around, finally. Take that 360ers ^^
- Nobi-Wan, on 01/08/2008, -5/+3FIFTY gigs of data for a game is ridiculous. How can anyone buy into the fact that for the past seven or so years we've been fine with 8GB discs and all the sudden once Sony has their machine we NEED at least six times that amount.
- Nobi-Wan, on 01/08/2008, -7/+3Yes, MGS4: Guns of the Patriots is going to be exclusive to the PS3. But who's to say a title like "MGS4: Substinance" (or whatever) won't be coming to the 360?
To say that it will NEVER come to any other platform is a bit naive. Konami is a business and to ignore over double the amount of PS3 owners on a similar console would just be a poor business move. And if it doesn't come to the 360 it's not like it's going to be really big deal. Both systems are great and competition is good. It just makes games on both systems that much better. - Linkgx1, on 01/08/2008, -9/+2Then again, Xbox was still in its baby stages. It's reverse now. Could it stay stay? Yes! Will it, depending on sales, it might not be exlusive. I think in 2009 we'll see it on the Xbox 360.
