Well, for one, Final Fantasies I-VI were similar because they all had, for starters:
1.) A FANTASY setting
2.) The main character was always the main character, i.e., you didn't get the angsty teen main character that you have in Final Fantasies VII+, and more importantly, in the old Final Fantasies it was always the main character that was strong and heroic and supported the party, whereas in the newer Final Fantasies, the main character generally has emotional problems and relies on the party to keep them going.
3.) They had lots of equipment and items to choose from (which goes down to three, and then subsequently two pieces of equipment for the newer Final Fantasies).
To be blunt, Final Fantasies VII+ are completely different games than the prior Final Fantasies. The only thing that kept them similar was that it was the same development team working on them time and time again, but now that development team has all but left SQEX. - Splitt3rxx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I got FF4.

I had never heard of it so I looked it up and it's about using magic powers to fight aliens and save the world that takes place in the future. Totally off from everything I answered.

All of my chosen options pretty much reflected Chrono Trigger -- which is my favourite game -- and I got Max Payne (not kidding). So I unchecked "Action" from the genres of movies I like (I don't know what options to choose if I like anime and fantasy movies) and I got FFIV.
