- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+126He's quitting Runescape not because it's consuming his life but because the graphics aren't good enough????
Let's hope he never finds WoW. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+71Sucking dick for crack, now THATS an addiction
- Cubicz12321, on 10/12/2007, -5/+68No-one is commenting or Digging, Because everyone is logging on and getting his stuff :P
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+55What happened to selling your account on ebay?
- steve693, on 10/12/2007, -5/+58Can anyone get this guys email so I can send him a 10-day free trial for WoW?
Bwahaha - aerogant, on 10/12/2007, -8/+59"why? What do I get out of doing this? The answer is, absolutely nothing."
While it's good that he stop his addiction to the game, but from a broader perspective is it not the same with all entertainment? I mean watching movies, you are wasting time not doing anything, and you don't really get anything out of it except passing time in an entertaining way. In life in general, you may accumulate wealth and friends, do we take that with us when we go?
So that same question above, I've asked myself about life in general before... Sometimes it's just better to get caught up in the things you can do in life (including playing video games) and forget about it's worth. - quacker912, on 10/12/2007, -1/+51Why doesn't he sell it?
...or just change his password to "asklrlksalkdfjaslkrejop3j4po32j4ksajkdf," himself. - MrSidnet, on 10/12/2007, -5/+52I always thought the graphics were better back before they did the "massive upgrade"
Ahh, but that was years ago. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -23/+69"He's quitting Runescape not because it's consuming his life but because the graphics aren't good enough????

Are you saying WoW has good graphics?
Better than Runescape, yea... but good, no. - fuzzmeister, on 10/12/2007, -4/+48WoW has amazing art, but an average graphics engine.
- darny, on 10/12/2007, -1/+43why didn't he sell the account on ebay or something???? at least get something back for his toiling and $5/month
- insaneMetalGear, on 10/12/2007, -2/+41In runescape you have to mine 372,413 Iron to get to level 99 mining. Assuming it takes 2 seconds per iron, that's over 200 hours of a repetitive task. At the end of this, you have achieved nothing in real life. Even if you watched movies for 200 hours, you would have something to talk about.
- Phantastica, on 10/12/2007, -1/+38Is it a coincidence that the name can be interpreted as Run Escape?
- EXreaction, on 10/12/2007, -2/+33Ya everything was much better before the "upgrade".
I still remember when they introduced the Members section and those "special" new pickaxes(among the hundreds of other additions I saw). But the new pickaxes release was the funniest, there was like 500 people in one tiny room when they released the new pickaxes, everyone had the shop open and was just waiting for a high end one to show up!
But Runescape started going downhill around the same time they made that "stand still for 5 minutes and you get logged off" rule. All our auto-miners were no good after that. :(
And does anyone else remember the time they tried a word filtering system for the first time? So many words were filtered out you could hardly say anything at all! Plus the notice that you got when you logged in that day was just funny as hell with the devs bitching about how many people complained about bad language and that they are sick of it.
...oh the good old days... - Sware, on 10/12/2007, -0/+31I guess it's a better solution then killing yourself because your account got hacked.
- PixelVision, on 10/12/2007, -2/+28I used to play Runescape all the time, but in the end I realised, like all mmorpgs, how utterly repetitive and pointless it was to continue playing like that. I then noted that there was no other point to the game except get your stats up (unless you include the little quests) so I just quit. That's my story
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+27If he did that, then this stupid article wouldn't be on the front page.
- Smarterdanu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22That's nothing I was full rune lvl 64 or so back in the runescape days...
That was literally like 4-5 years ago...I wonder if my acct is still there....
...hmmm...maybe I'll just play a few minutes.... - MrSidnet, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24Im sure his password has been changed by now. In which case, it wouldnt make sense for this to reach Front Page. Unless you digg it for coolness factor.
- Jo9100, on 10/12/2007, -6/+27for all those who think his password is still unchanged, youre WRONG
its gone... - Kratisto, on 10/12/2007, -4/+24Runescape is for kids. WoW is for kids with money or adults with too much free time and little video game skill.
- Notclive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20lvl 48, I wouldn't call that an addiction.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21At least WoW doesn't use ***** Java and is actually hardware accelerated.
- frimsah, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19As long as you find it rewarding in some way. For some people, plugging into an MMO might be stress relieving. It wasn't for me, so I quit.
For what it's worth, I can get a lot more out of a thought-provoking movie than I can running an instance with my guild for the umpteenth time. - Protonz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Eve Online has really nice graphics.... I think. I always have my screen covered in statistic & info windows, I guess there is a ship in the background somewhere...
- kee440, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16The password for the Runescape account is the same password for his Yahoo Account too.
- Phantastica, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Why? $5 a month isn't enough? You would rather pay $15 a month to fratenize with asian 7th graders?
Sorry, but in my opinion, his argument for quitting applies to most MMORPGs. - Shawnosaurus, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18If we read between the lines here, "I was paying $5 a month to do nothing more than fratenize with asain 7th graders." and "My second reason is, lets face it, the graphics.... leave much to be desired." together tell us that he is angry that the graphics don't look enough like asian 7th graders for his taste. He's just another disgruntled pedophile with an asian fetish.
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14@jocnor
I disagree.
He said he will get to you w/ the password later, which probably meant he changed it to something he did not use for other things. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Hey, you forgot these ...................
- jocnnor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Poor bastard probably uses that password for many other things. Not only is his runescape stuff gone, but his ebay stuff, email stuff, and whatever stuff that password protected.
- JesusFaction, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13the best way to quit is to get banned
that's what i did at least.... - merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Based on the URL, I'd guess either
mountnbiker310@comcast.net
or
mountnbiker310@comcast.com - halleyscomet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Poor Bastard's Lucky he never found Nethack. You can't exactly have someone else change your password with Nethack...
Or X-Com: Enemy Unknown. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10"ductandstuff@yahoo.com"
Welcome to T3H SP4M!
(No, I don't mean me spamming him. I mean the idiot is going to have his addy crawled and spammed now that it was posted. *sheesh*) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Yeah, because only mature adults aged 24-35 play WOW. Get real.
- EXreaction, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9"In runescape you have to mine 372,413 Iron to get to level 99 mining. Assuming it takes 2 seconds per iron, that's over 200 hours of a repetitive task. Well if it changes anything, the way it used to be setup you could continuously mine 1 rock forever and it would never run out of ore. And a long time ago there was no log out if you stood still for more than X time.
So all of us just installed an auto-miner app and we could mine 24/7! So just leave it alone for a few days and you would be up there(to damn bad we only had dial-up back in those days, or I would have left my pc mining all day long)! :D - Caps, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Bah, that's BS... games like WOW, Runescape and Second Life can suck vulnerable people in and prevent them from having a real life with real friends. If you're telling me you get the same thing out of good friends, family and other general life experiences like travelling around the world, than you do playing the above mentioned games then you clearly have not done the former. Even watching a good movie will give you perspective on something that you did not have before...
Good on Daniel for breaking out of the cycle and getting on with his life... - elsupergringo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8In response to comments about repetitive tasks being a waste of time. I believe our young American boy has found his version of a sand mandala. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sand_mandala
- KenOh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Aha, in case no one knows, revenge7 (Trunks7) above gave all his stuff to a multi/friend. He wants someone else to play his account so he can just recover it later (using password recovery). I have other friends who play Runescrape that are thinking about doing the same thing.
- counterstriker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7wow he did better than me it took me until level 69 to quit runescape and I have definatley learned my lesson. MMORPGS slowly ruin peoples lives
- revenge7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I quit a long time ago.
I just remembered it, and want someone else to put it to good use. - mymidgetfriend, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7You know people that brag about being addicted to MMOs?
Those I know who are truly addicted would never admit it and deny it when accused. Last time I checked no one wants to be branded as "addicted to MMOs." I define addiction as "Hey (x) do you want to come out friday night with all of your friends and have fun?" "No, sorry I have to run (y) dungeon with my guildies." - bigmansteve, on 10/12/2007, -10/+15Runescape... buried as lame.
- elsupergringo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Amen to this. But i think the value for him was much more by quitting and giving it away than by selling it. People who can sell it have reached a bit higher level of maturity in dealing with this stuff.
- crilen007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I posted my MMO accounts on a message board too.
Works wonders. - anocross, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5HOLY *****.
Can someone translate? - bigfatdummy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Im playing Runescape right now. I tried WOW and I thought it sucks. I think its funny that people claim to be addicted with such low level accounts. I have a 119 account, 114 account and a level 100 account, all of which have total levels over 1550.
Account 1: 97 mage, 99 hp, 99 prayer, 85 slayer, 99 cooking, 99 fishing, 99 herblore, 84 crafting
Account 2: 99 range, 99 defense, 97 hp, 94 mage, 94 fletch, 81 slayer, 81 crafting
Account 3: 91 mage, 91 range, 82 herblore, 89 crafting
(most other stats on account 1 and 2 over 80)
You want to talk about wasted hours and time? If you know anything about Runescape you will know the endless hours I have spent playing. Good thing I play this while I am working. - Giever, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6If you want to quit, why would you try to get someone else to play? Wouldn't you want to keep people from playing it, knowing that it's just a repetitive cycle?
- Slybri, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I sympathize with this guy. I recently quit WOW after 2 years of playing and it feels like I just quit my job. Life after level 70 was boring anyways. I have so much time and freedom now. I no longer rush through the day just to maximize my time in WOW where I end up waiting around for other players to group with anyways. It's really quite liberating. Now I'm playing through FFXII and NWN2 and Rogue Galaxy and Oblivion and Lunar Knights and whatever the hell else I want to play. And I can just save my game and turn it off and group up with my real life friends.
Besides, I don't really feel like spending a year trying to get some EPIC gear that will just be instantly replaced when the next expansion comes out. -
