- eightyd, on 10/11/2007, -2/+16I remember when EGM voted Tetris their #1 game of all time, and at first I thought they were completely nuts, but it really is a game that people could still be playing in all its permutations 3000 years from now. I love tetris.
- Snarfy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9My friend swears by the nes version. He is definitely a true master tetris player. The problem with the nes version is that there is a level which is impossible to pass. The blocks faller faster than you can shift them all the way to the side. You simply cannot form a complete line at this level. The mechanics just don't allow it.
- mvanhorn, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10Full "essay", - http://bsixcentdouze.free.fr/tc/tgm-en/tgm.html
- psykiv, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8And here I am happy I topped 100 lines in tetris A. :(
- pwnguin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5The "In Soviet Russia, Tetris tops you!" comment in very interesting, because it is actually right. There's a very cool murder story involving one of the creators. See here : http://www.rotten.com/library/culture/tetris/
- theGOG, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5"though at 100 Yen a pop, it's obviously different than a Euro or two."
(sorry if i got it a bit wrong)
100 Yen = a dollar! - TimDigg, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Considering Tetris was developed by a russian...I'll let this one slide... +1
- Demonmonger, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5True tetris masters play the arcade / nes version. No infinite spin to save you.
- dako, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Anyone up for some TetriNET :P?
- macaddct1984, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3A very good read, but in a summary, the grand master version has:
* A delayed "locking" time, allowing you to slide pieces on eachother before they lock
* Unique colors and sounds for each piece
* An option for rotating pieces before they're released
* A "good piece generator", which prevents getting the same piece over and over, or the dreaded Z-S sequence
* Wallkicks, where the piece, if rotated against a wall, still rotates but gets "kicked" off of the wall - guillo98, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Thats insane!
- ElwinRansom, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Now THAT is a Tetris game. I'm not a fan of the additions made to Tetris DS, I always preferred a more stripped down basic approach to Tetris.
- crushfan, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4In Soviet Russia, Tetris tops you!
- ReeseKaine, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I played the first GrandMaster on MAME. Unfortunately the game didn't run well under 20G mode (Death mode for those that only saw the video), but I'm hoping someday that they'll support Absolute Plus and Terror Instinct.
It's a shame you can't import them to the U.S. :-( - t2048, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1The best NES Tetris video online - 999,999 by Jonas

Sorry but Harry hong will have to cough up a new video =) - missingnoh4x, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Tetris DS's main game mode is just basic tetris. You can easily just ignore the Mario eye-candy on the top-screen.
- missingnoh4x, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Aha, here it is: http://tetrisconcept.com/wiki/index.php?title=Playing_forever
...Yes, there is evidently an entire wiki devoted to Tetris. Wow. - revital9, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Tetris Tricks: http://www.hooqs.com/tetris-tricks/17021,19674
- FunkyPits, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1After watching that I have to say I don't think I spent nearly enough time playing Tetris in my youth.
- missingnoh4x, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1I don't really like the piece generator. Sure, it's weighted to prevent getting lots of S and Zs consecutively and mitigate RNG screwage, but bag selection is truly best and fairest.
- fxspec06, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1that's insane. that guy can stack blocks like barry bonds can inject a needle. truly amazing
- missingnoh4x, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1"You know, the ones where the block drops to the bottom of the screen literally in the time it takes to blink?" - You mean, level 20 and beyond, where the very first frame has the block already at the bottom of the screen? I can survive well past that point, but I'm no grandmaster.
I've also seen a tactic that allows for infinite play under current Tetris mechanics (Tetris DS having the most recent official engine). Insane. - Stevewelshbah, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2Harry hong is not the best in the world at tetris
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1I'll like to see him do it with no preview piece.
- voitenko, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I never thought tetris could be played professionaly
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0ah.....Tetris..such sweet sound....the best game to kill time....a lot of it
- jetcombo15, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0I thought this would teach me the secrets to become a Tetris master. I was disappointed.
Good essay nonetheless. - missingnoh4x, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Call me a wimp, but I like my infinite spin.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2In facist america goat tells you to STFU!
