- NinjAlt, on 10/12/2007, -17/+144Maybe they just figured that Mac users wouldnt want to play a video game anyway. They would be too busy using photoshop and going to starbucks...
- noliberalbull, on 11/13/2007, -11/+74IE... you gotta be kidding me... you mean I'm on a mac and can't play a mac emulator because it requires IE... something is so wrong here...
- A2Ska, on 10/12/2007, -13/+65I.E. Come on...

Since the game saved that info onto the floppy, you'd always run into tombstones of previous kids. Things like "peperony and chease" or "butt face".
- blablaman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14I died of dysentery :(
- hackwrench, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13CD's of the game used to come free with cereal at one point.
- cheez, on 10/12/2007, -20/+31Apparently....
I would have died of IE - BlackCow, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Oh come on, opening up IE wont KILL you. (it just may make you violently ill)
- scott1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11The last I played this game was in th 3rd grade.
- Neurofiend, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11So apparently I'm the only one who doesn't want to install an ActiveX control from some random site found on the net....
- BlackCow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Ohh noooes,
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b397/blackcow99/kevinrose_orgon_trail.jpg - trunkster, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14A place called Virtual Apple requires IE, give me a ***** break. No digg.
- xxBondsxx, on 10/12/2007, -17/+26yeah, no dig for the IE

- Devz0r, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12you're still running it in ie, it's just plugged into firefox
- Lardquake, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Incredible Machine is just the bestest thing ever.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8yep.. the memories
- georgelogy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I died because a thief came and took all my clothes, then it started snowing.
- tech42er, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I remember those games! I would definitely buy a DS if they made them for the DS or sold them for the PC again.
- Jussles, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9Having to use IE makes sense. An obsolete browser to play an obsolete game.
- ZephyrWest, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Wow. Here's a game I never thought I would see again... I remember playing this in 3rd grade. :)
- MacAholicX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4For all of the other Mac users out there think it is a disgrace that our beloved Oregon Trail is only available for PC users, well I have a solution. As suggested by Xsuite, you need to download the emulator at http://apple2.intergalactic.de/ After it is installed, drag the icon to your applications folder. Open up the file and you will see an icon for the emulator, roms, disc, and misc. You need to install 2 roms. The first one is here ftp://ftp.apple.asimov.net/pub/apple_II/emulators/rom_images/ . You need to copy the file named Apple.rom to the roms folder in the program. Then you need the second rom, ftp://ftp.simtel.net/pub/simtelnet/msdos/emulate/apl2em.zip. Copy the disc.rom to the roms folder as well. Now you are ready to download the disk images from http://www.virtualapple.org/oregontraildisk.html. Scroll down to the very bottom of the page and download both files. Copy them in to the discs folder for the emulator (where the roms folder was). Now launch the program and you will see both Oregon Trail Disk 1 and Oregon Trail disk 2 listed under Action Games. Click on Disk 1 and click the "boot" button down at the bottom. You're ready to go! Feel free to ask for help if you get stuck!
- Trams, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I hate that! Figures though... those bankers from boston are all little fairies.

- jpbleuu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4oh man i remember playing carmen san diego in school. good times
- BlackCow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Maby by clicking the button that says disk two?
- sandpaperback, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Agreed. Random digg asking to install a .cab file? SURE, why not?
I'll stick with the power of my favorite abandonware sites and local emulators. - mcottier, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4You don't need IE if you have the IE rendering extension for FireFox :)
- vocaro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2 When you get the prompt to change disks, simply select Disk 2 from the list, then click the button labeled "1" (don't click "Boot"). This will insert Disk 2 into drive #1.
- Chainsaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i keep getting pwnd by the snakes!
- SteveCUBE, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Haha, such good memories of this game!
My sister and I used to play this game all the time on our Apple II.
This is sweet. - HelplessSEAL, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2were you expecting anti-alaising and pixelshader? This game is over 20 years old, give it a break
- kpearce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wow. This was a lot of fun.
In 2nd grade we had to play as a team.
The boys always wanted to hunt. I wanted to win.
Today, this was the first time I actually enjoyed hunting.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/katypearce/tags/oregontrail/ - razmig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i was thinking of ordering a copy of this off of ebay, it's where i found Odell Down Under, did anyone play that in elementary school? where you live the life of a fish? it's great how a simple game like that can keep you up until 4 am when you know you have an 8 am class the next morning.
- trutwin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If I could dig this 1000 times I would - this is cool enough, but the same site has Sneakers - a game I wasted hours and hours on. Probably the only reason I ever bought a NES. Man I'm old...
http://www.virtualapple.org/sneakersdisk.html - michaelblank, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Here's a link to the Deluxe version (color, etc, runs in DOS emulation)...
http://www.oldschooldos.com/theoregontraildeluxe.p ... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2GAWD! I remember why I hated this game. "good" health and only 2 movement clicks away from the end and out of nowhere, 2 people die. Screw that *****.
- astrotrain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1And this is why Firefox is gaining on IE.... sure you can't play this in Firefox because
you need the ActiveX plugin "Second Sight Software". (used the IE Tab to find this
out), its messure of deployment.... ActiveX window in IE.
The home page for this ActiveX plugin was not too assuring, so to those who just
immediately clicked [Yes] to risk your system for a 20 year old video game, good
luck.
Think about it folks... ActiveX to run an Apple game?... there are Apple Emulators
out there that can run this stuff without the security risk of ActiveX. - dhulser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1do a google search for oregon trail abandonware, or look at my comment above, i got it a few months back and played for a good long while...
- elynde, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What do you do after you download the emulator? I just don't get it.
- isthisnametaken, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2dont forget number munchers!
