- floejoe, on 10/12/2007, -5/+72Yeah they even got a solid bureaucracy established through a virtual UN. Nice.
For an even more realistic experience they need to add an ability to disregard anything that the UN says without any repercussions. - datastorageguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+47My company's proxy is preventing me from ruling my own country.
- kimastergeorge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+47Surely you don't mean that... ALL the women?
- waybo, on 10/12/2007, -8/+37Perhaps if you play as the French you automatically lose.
- JeffT1545, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24When I played I tried to give everyone the best civil rights with total control over themselves and no government interference. Oops - I created an Anarchy!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+28Ha ha ha! Oh gosh that's funny! That's really funny! Do you write your own material? Do you? Because that is so fresh. All your base are belong to us. You know, I've, I've never heard anyone make that joke before. Hmm. You're the first. I've never heard anyone reference, reference that outside the game before. Because that's what he says in the Zero Wing game right? Isn't it? All your base are belong to us. And, and yet you've taken that and used it out of context in this everyday situation.
God what a clever, smart boy you must be, to come up with a joke like that all by yourself. That's so fresh too. Any, any Titanic jokes you want to throw at me too as long as we're hitting these phenomena at the height of their popularity? God you're so funny! - slimscane, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23Ah, NationStates, it is really fun for several months, especially if you can get some friends to make join up too and create a region. I had the proud Republic of Scotung, our national animal was the Walrus and we were a member of the Pro Awesome Coalition! The problem is that after several months you stop getting new issues =(
- FyreGoddess, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21If you like this game, I highly recommend the book that this game was based upon, Jennifer Government, by Max Barry.
http://www.maxbarry.com - dj_sea2005, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21*plays game frantically*
- dj_sea2005, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18hey, im a desperate guy...
- betterth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Oh yeah it does.
I sold futuristic weaponry (after modelling it in 3d Studio Max, and spending hours meticulously construction the explanations on how such weaponry is possible and making links to several academic sites containing research on the topics) to some of the larger nations. - okokitsme, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15So have you, probably
- dj_sea2005, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17i would make all of the women on my nation walk around naked.
(you know it had to be said) - cosmovi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I found the book to be far more exciting than the game. Far. More. Exciting.
- jpesicka2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9i shall call my country, diggnation.
- Falcorian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Links would be great.
- Pacotheparrot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Ahhh good ole nation states. It gets a little old after a while and it ends up being alot of nerd RPing but still worth fiddling around with.
- vexvector, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10If you enjoy NationStates, I recommend Cyber Nations. You have much more control over what you can do with your country without RP'ing (eg. taxes, wars, and other things that sadly make the world go 'round), and the RP community is pretty active nonetheless.
http://www.cybernations.net/ - brandizzle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8That's actually a choice. Play for a while and you'll eventually run into an issue where some people want to be able to walk around naked.
- dj_sea2005, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8ladies, welcome to The Colony of Gooberfeck:
http://www.nationstates.net/gooberfeck - pivot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7You have to call Libretarian Socialism or else people get all panicky. ;)
- JasonPrini, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Good book.
- sgreger1, on 10/12/2007, -8/+15"For an even more realistic experience they need to add an ability to disregard anything that the UN says without any repercussions."
The prize goes to you for best comment on this topic. So true.. so true... - MikeCampo, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12This was on here last year and I remember it not being fun at all...You'll probably use it for 20 minutes and then move on.
- JorgeGT, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Companies > Governments.
That's the truth, men, that's the truth. - admdrew, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6For people (like me) who are lazy and don't want to edit your link after clicking on it:
http://www.nukezone.nu/ - SteelChicken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5nationstates is cool...but after a month or so the questions repeat and it gets boring.
alot of the questions are stupid too. - violentvinyl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"For people (like me) who are lazy and don't want to edit your link after clicking on it:"
So glad I'm not the only person who feels the urge to do that (ironic that it takes more effort to reply to this comment, but I'm so much less likely to check out a link if it doesn't work the first time I try it). - Sirocco, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Inoffensive centrist democracy FTW.
- CurtHowland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Uninhabited maybe, but every one of them is claimed by one arbitrary geographic military monopoly or another.
Even the "Principality of New Utopia" had to get permission from their closest geographic military monopoly in order to even consider building their island.
Sorry.
Property taxes are the rent you pay to the real land owners. - Feanor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3We're an anarcho-syndicalist commune. We take it in turns to act as a sort of executive officer for the week...
- wookiekiller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I think I'll dub my nation "Bonerland". You Simpsons fans know what I'm talking about.
- DreadPirateWes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Another good one is Utopia. http://games.swirve.com/utopia
It's far more interactive so you have to pay more attention than you would to an account at NS. Either a good thing or a bad thing depending on how much you want to play:) - Chongo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4If you like a similar game (PBeM or Web games) then you should try Earth 2025.
http://games.swirve.com/earth
keep in mind though that it is more combat/global domination orientated... Less diplomatic strategies.
does anyone know of any real good nuclear war based PBeM games (besides the actual Nuclear War card game)? - Rayza, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Also: Ghandi is dead..
- Xeworlebi, on 07/25/2008, -0/+2Just claim a piece of Antarctica or some dessert, Nobody claimed them, so anybody who wants can.
And you got your own country, and it will be real. - SickBoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So far, I likey. Looks like a better alternative to Nation States. Then again, it's only Day One and Nation States looked pretty cool at the beginning, too.
- blistered, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2 I've played for a little while now. It takes 5 minutes a day and its fun. Come visit. http://www.nationstates.net/bobalooga
- apocalizer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I thought this was going to give you instructions on how to get your own island and register it as your own country. There's a lot of uninhabited islands out there.
- epheterson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2My brother used to be addicted.. i think he's better now.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I remember i used to play it, i completely forgot about it. Thanks digg for reminding me
- NapoleonGold, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I like it because of it's low impact.
I game but at the office it's nice to just decide a couple of issues and move on.
Don't gots no times to be play'in teh games at the 'ol office.
That one is for u grammar Nazi's - nhprm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I believe this game just got digg-effected.. seems like trouble is abrewin' on deliverin content through those interweb tubes.
- Tricky, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7The game was really written to sell the book. It's boring and there are better ones.
- frostyausty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1my currancy is ketchup packets
- Teapots, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Agreed-- I loved the book too.
- vsujohn2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I guess its not suprising that all the incarnations of Snakes on a Plane are taken.
What a bummer.. - dan0368, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well I'm a sucker, I went out and bought the book. I'm over 1/3 of the way through and enjoying it very much.
- Indrek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Getting close to 7.5 billion.
http://www.nationstates.net/nilthrias - DreadPirateWes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Doh didn't see Daiken's comment. Yeah it's definitely time consuming. I haven't played it in awhile because of that reason. If you really want to compete in it you have to be willing to wake up at 2am to make an attack. I didn't mind the changes every age though...kept the game different.
