- backwardscompat, on 07/26/2009, -8/+62The game doesn't get ruined, but rather changed. A lot of people do long for the days when WoW was vanilla and 60 was the level cap, but there's no denying how good 10 man versions of dungeons have been for the player base, and how much fun the arena tournament has brought with it.
- dylio, on 05/20/2009, -19/+68Yes, expansions are:
Arenas ruined PvP
Remember Southshore and Tarren Mill, how fun that was?
Remember the epic 40 man raids?
Rep grinds suck.
It takes no skill to get the best gear now
etc.
I do. The game is too different now. It's no lone the WoW I fell in love with. - inactive, on 05/20/2009, -7/+48I ruined your mom and she sure as hell sucks.

That was without prep. - Kahnza, on 05/20/2009, -6/+40Arena has sucked since it was implemented.
- JDLamb88, on 05/20/2009, -4/+36I'm just glad I quit and can sit back and hear how it is being ruined, and catch up on the gossip with all my free time!
- Bethi, on 05/20/2009, -4/+30it hasnt been ruined, but its very different now than it was even a year or two ago. games like WoW have to change for them to remain playable at all. if we had been level 60 and still running the same raids and 5 mans for 4-5 years that would be pretty awful.
- JD52, on 05/20/2009, -2/+26I think your comment needs an expansion to fix it. At the very least a patch.
- FOcast, on 05/20/2009, -3/+25One of the only reasons people are nostalgic for "classic" WoW is that they're not playing it anymore. Yes, TM/SS battles were fun for a while, but the ranking system was an absolute nightmare, with vicious cutoffs, huge time investment required, and point decay that killed you if you were sick for a week.
Sure, gear is easier to get nowadays, but the only people who long for Molten Core back are the ones who didn't get the chance to spend 70% of every FOURTY PERSON raid on monotonous trash. Plus, the 40 man requirement meant there wasn't room for more than one endgame guild on most servers until close to Burning Crusade's release. And if you weren't in that guild? You got to choose from three dungeons which, unlike the twelve or so of the expansions, were rather boring overall.
The expansions have made the game better, period. - peterjmag, on 05/20/2009, -3/+19Soylent Green is people! PEOPLE!!
- TheCollective00, on 05/20/2009, -1/+17For Pallies, it used to be:
Bubble
Hearth - ripple123, on 05/20/2009, -3/+18you are being sarcastic right? 40mans were pains in the ass to get together. and you cant seriously think that rep grinds are harder now than they were in the original. and so they eased up the gear treadmill a bit. now people who also have a life can get some decent loot too. i mean, theres a reason they rereleased naxx. its cause no one ***** got to it in the original wow.
- inactive, on 05/20/2009, -2/+17WoW thrives on obesity.
- moarcaek, on 05/20/2009, -3/+18Southshore/Tarren Mill with 50 vs 50 was SO SICK. I remember we used to get a big group together and try to invade mulgore but it just turned into an epic 70 vs 70 near the cross roads. Do you know what there is now? A group of 40 people run into a city and CompStomp the King for the achievement while members of the other faction try, hopelessly, to slow them down. The only decent battles are found within battlegrounds and even those are stupid in comparison to the ones in vanilla. Vanilla was perfect. It was like CoD4. Then, they changed it. (Kinda like Cod4 --> Cod5) Except you can't choose to still play the original...
- pirategonzo, on 05/20/2009, -1/+15Please tell me you didn't do that from memory.
- scentaroom, on 05/20/2009, -6/+19maybe they can added another expansion to fix the other expansion to make the game to be a better add on.... does that make sense
- mlvassallo, on 05/20/2009, -2/+15Games Radar is awful. Quit digging it.
- Ventolin, on 05/20/2009, -1/+13Only these days, you don't typically last past #`11.
- woahwoahwoah, on 05/20/2009, -4/+16World of Warcraft is a superb game. The world is vast, and the two new continents are fairly varied. I can't complain when they add in expansive dungeons, patches that actually introduce meaningful changes, new methods of transportation, and some new professions. WoW will ultimately be replaced, but not until a new developer comes along with a formula that combines online innovation with simplicity and accessibility.
- FKnight, on 05/20/2009, -2/+14The only skill required in Arena is used at the character selection screen. If you select a Paladin or a Death Knight, you're automatically a "skilled" arena player.
- strangewill, on 05/20/2009, -6/+17Scrapetrain, are you retarded?
- thcobbs, on 05/20/2009, -3/+14@scrapetrain
Be honest, that was golden. - Allivian, on 05/20/2009, -1/+12Agreed.
Usually ret aura has killed you by then. - inactive, on 05/20/2009, -15/+25You know what else is ruining World of Warcraft? Your obesity.
- sirbeta, on 05/20/2009, -0/+10Rose color glasses ruin World of Warcraft.
- gatorayde, on 05/20/2009, -7/+17Or you can get a life and save yourself $15 a month.
Before you bitch and moan, I did play WoW, a lot actually. I got all the way to level 71 and then I kind of realized what a waste the game actually was and how extremely repetitive it was (kill, gear, level, repeat). Yes, it was a fun game but I realized that I spent way too much time playing it. When there are better online games out there, that don't even cost a dime in monthly fees (ie: TF2), why bother playing $15 a month to show your friends how cool you are (oh wait...) - Nateon, on 05/20/2009, -0/+10This is a really poorly written article. It seems Games Radar is trying too hard to find something to write about. I didn't leave that read through with anything more than a waste of time.
- SoulGrub, on 05/20/2009, -3/+13Common misconception. Mostly they're too busy playing to eat.
- moarcaek, on 05/20/2009, -5/+14Scrapetrain, that is what we have done. Because it was ruined. Get it now?
- Daedalus81, on 05/20/2009, -2/+11Expansions are $30, but whatever.
- PanicAK, on 05/20/2009, -9/+18Actually Activision is ruining World of Warcraft.
- pirategonzo, on 05/20/2009, -2/+11I loved going from 1 to 60. I even enjoyed going from 60 to 70. I got to level 71 and just was plain sick of leveling. I still jump on once in a while and bomb around but I just don't play anymore. I don't miss it but I wish I still enjoyed it.
- kev0476, on 05/20/2009, -1/+10I spend so much more money now that I quit wow, just between going out to movies, getting dinner with friends, and all that fun stuff.
Definitely worth giving it up, but $15 a month is really not much of a deterrent, that game probably saved me money, but made me a social outcast.
So glad I quit. - SoulGrub, on 05/20/2009, -1/+10And there's been only 2 expansions in over 4 years, but whatever.
- Minters, on 05/20/2009, -2/+11For those who cant be arsed reading the article, the answer is:
No. - inactive, on 05/20/2009, -3/+11I seriously wonder what kind of computer people are using to play wintergrasp.
No person I know has ever been able to go there without having a serious lagfest. My PC crawls, and I have the latest nVidia. - Mike17102, on 05/20/2009, -1/+9Anyone who didnt get a high rank under the old system has NO IDEA exactly how soul killing that grind was. Nothing in the game before or since even comes close to the level of time that required.
I made it to Field Marshal, and god did it suck. I know people who flunked out of college to hit GM. Thank ***** that evil evil system is gone.
But arenas are teh suck, and the worst addition that WoW has ever had. - Cwo655321, on 05/20/2009, -2/+10live a little.
- Jlaugh, on 05/20/2009, -1/+9I wish there where more battlegrounds, the new wintergrasp is pretty cool.
- thcobbs, on 05/20/2009, -2/+10No, they complain about a game they left.
If the cost dropped to $5/mo I might pick it up again, but it's just too much hassle to play now.
ITS NO FUN! - Malarie, on 05/20/2009, -0/+8I stopped playing WoW when TBC came out. I thought it was the best time to go because my guild split to raid smaller content. To this day, i have never played a video game that is more fun than World of Warcraft. Ibought a PS3, but cant get immersed like i did with wow. I still check out the Dalaran forums from time to time, and i have to say im totally out of it. Those new instances, news lands.. I am completely lost when i check the screenshots :)
One thing is for sure, these MMOS are just like digital crack. Its too damn fun, to the point where its dangerous in a certain way. - SoulGrub, on 05/20/2009, -0/+8Actually, 71-80 is clearly far far more varied and less time consuming than 1-60, but I can see how one would get bored after 70 levels.
- Westerhousen, on 05/20/2009, -0/+7Tis going the way of EverQuest...
:( - Bender, on 05/20/2009, -1/+8Wow, that just brought back a ton of memories. Bravo.
- modifiedbears, on 05/20/2009, -2/+9There has never been "skill" involved with WOW. It's all about how much time you have to devote to it.
- Mike17102, on 05/20/2009, -1/+8Or he didnt happen to roll one of The Favored classes that get to use MASSIVE SKILL to pillar hump to 2200 rating.
Arenas are a ***** joke. If I want to play 2v2 games, I have an xbox for that and its a ***** better at it. - stubear, on 05/20/2009, -4/+10Expansions didn't kill the game, the fact that you have to devote your life to playing WoW to get anywhere. There is no casual exploring and wandering in this game. This is really a shame as there are some really beautiful parts of Azeroth but I quit after fewer and fewer casual players were available to do a quick dungeon run and soloing wasn't possible.
- TheMoniker, on 05/20/2009, -0/+6First, welcome to Digg.
Second, you will be dugg up, dugg down and if you are consistently opinionated, will end up with people of the opposite opinion who will follow you from comment thread to comment thread digging you down. It doesn't really matter and means little. People can be jerks on the internet, it's just the way of things.
Third: As for why? I think that Penny Arcade put it best (possibly NSFW language):

Fourth, I agree that vanilla WoW was a more challenging experience, though this was usually in terms of organization for 40 man raids (back when MC, Ony and BWL first came out) more than anything else. - thrownatural, on 05/20/2009, -4/+10The problem with WoW isn't new content, its that they're trying to rapidly expand their player base by appealing to everyone. Instead of the challenging and engrossing experience it used to be, it's become a vapid, homogeneous husk of its former self thats riddled with ridiculous imbalances and glaring technical faults.
- punkcat, on 05/20/2009, -2/+8karazahn was so much fun, i loved it.
perfect number for a raid. -
