- fluidfoundation, on 07/07/2009, -0/+25I never trusted hummingbirds.
- AwakeningAZ, on 07/08/2009, -1/+21Why would we publish this information? I predict a hummingbird mass extinction in our adversaries' countries.
- gellfex, on 07/08/2009, -1/+19How about the fact that hummingbirds are native only to the Americas, so this would only be useful for spying on Latin America, or more likely, our own citizens.
- inactive, on 07/08/2009, -2/+17Watch the shotgun come out whenever a hummingbird comes around now.
- twiztidsinz, on 07/08/2009, -0/+10My guess is Hummingbirds were chosen for the speed at which they flap their wings and the ability to hover rather than just glide in the air.
- mlbwebdesign, on 07/08/2009, -0/+10DoD Chief: Mr President, the korean's are going to bomb us, we need to react!
Obama: How do you know this?
DoD Chief: A little birdie told me...ZOINKS!!!!
Thanks, I'll be here all week...try the Veal. Don't forget to tip your waitress. - KingGorilla, on 07/08/2009, -0/+10Should have went with butterflies. No one ever suspects the butterfly
- mfc5200, on 07/08/2009, -0/+10People use to ignore the effects of viscosity/ boundary layers for aircraft. So on a large scale, the hummingbird/bee wouldn't be able to move enough mass flow to keep it airborne. But in reality, at such small sizes, boundary layer/no slip conditions make it pretty easy to move the necessary air.
DARPA is actually funding my lab's research on this stuff, but it is related to their power supplies, not the aerodynamics of the wings. - Joghobs, on 07/08/2009, -0/+8I'm glad everyone knows about it now. Unless of course they tell us now to watch for hummingbirds but instead they send woodpeckers.
- Depthfunction, on 07/08/2009, -0/+7No one will suspect a thing -- unless someone asks, "What the ***** is that hummingbird doing in our secret conference room?"
- Fragged58, on 07/08/2009, -9/+15Department of defense? Ok. I take this as another strategy to unconstitutionally spy on the American people.

- mrkuder, on 07/08/2009, -0/+3hummingbirds are probably gonna go on the endangered list real fast then. who wants them around when it could be big brother
- Railz, on 07/08/2009, -1/+4Hummingbirds aren't exactly an everyday sight in most places. Not sure who it would fool.
- netfool, on 07/08/2009, -1/+4Dugg, my thoughts exactly.
- FlaNative, on 07/08/2009, -0/+3So, when we see a hummingbird following us around.
For days.... - HeyyyJoe, on 07/08/2009, -0/+3it must be the antenna sticking up from the birds head
- Shawkab, on 07/08/2009, -0/+2RIP Humming birds
- DVmaker, on 07/08/2009, -0/+2This story has been sensationalized.
- novenator, on 07/07/2009, -5/+7watch the tinfoil hats come on whenever a hummingbird comes around now

Conference Leader: "Well, I guess that settles that. Now, let's talk about all that illegal stuff we're planning to do..." - ptFoe, on 07/08/2009, -0/+2then it's open season on humming birds
- chessthecat, on 07/08/2009, -2/+3I thought hummingbirds violated what we knew of aerodynamics so how can we build a robotic one? Is that just an urban legend?
- 2noame, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1We are now that much closer to playing Quidditch.
- fairandtrue, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1***** the dod for giving such a magical birds such a bad name...

- maz2331, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1We have them around Pittsburgh, but they are so small you usually don't notice them. They are cute though.
- andrewlotta, on 07/08/2009, -1/+2In other news, the hummingbird population has been dropping drastically.
- smcnow, on 07/08/2009, -0/+11) Who doesn't stop to look at a hummingbird. So not too stealthy
2) Looks like the tests were screened off. Was that to prevent air currents in the room from toppling the thing? Not so stable
3) I guess the plan is to spy more in the America's - inactive, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1That's what she said.
- TheSwashbuckler, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1So, if people start seeing lots of hummingbirds they should get suspicious...

- ElBearde, on 07/08/2009, -0/+0What are you going to do? Tell everyone that there's a humming bird spying on you? They'll think you're crazy. That's why this is a ***** genius achievement for people involved in international espionage, except everybody already knows it exists, but it's still telling of more frightening things to come with the advancement of nano-machinery.
