- sharkydog, on 07/16/2009, -1/+11The thing about sharks is that they are wild animals. They swim in the ocean and look for food and they eat it. That's just what they do. If you go in the ocean and get bitten by a shark, you can't really be mad about it because you knew that was a risk going in. It'd be the same thing if you went into the forest and got attacked by a bear, or went to Africa and got bitten by a lion. People get attacked by animals, and that's just the way it is.
- Misinformant, on 07/16/2009, -0/+9Feeding with the hand that was bitten.
- inactive, on 07/16/2009, -0/+6People think the ocean is like a pool. It isn't. It is the most brutal wilderness that there is and we use it as a toilet. Our ability to needlessly kill things is amazing. Sharks haven't had to evolve for millions of years and have been the world's top predators, but not anymore.
Also, as we learned from Moby Dick, you can't take revenge on nature. - cifly, on 07/16/2009, -0/+5Torso Jones.
- freshyill, on 07/16/2009, -0/+5Yeah, it's justified, just like people who are in car accidents are justified when they go around smashing other people's cars. NEED REVENGE!!!!!!
- govtdoesnotwork, on 07/16/2009, -0/+4If you have a small cut that's bleeding AT ALL, or if you're a female on her period, just stay the hell out of the ocean. Sharks' sense of smell in water has evolved over the eons to something approaching perfection. They can probably beat a bloodhound's sense of smell in the air.

- Thclife, on 07/16/2009, -0/+3Did anyone see the one on CNN this morning. The chick sitting next to the guy who got bit looked like she was cracked out.
i think she forgot what she was there for, when he said he got bit her eyes were about to pop out of her head... actually she does it alot - jeffwmartin, on 07/16/2009, -0/+3I misread the title and thought some people who were rescuing sharks were attacked while doing so.
- serif69, on 07/16/2009, -0/+3I think so. But that's probably because I hate rap.
- diggopolous, on 07/16/2009, -0/+3Man, This has to to be the most vulgar display of Stockholm Syndrome I have ever witnessed!
- Rudegar, on 07/16/2009, -0/+3sharks are the oceans garbageman at at times they mistake humans for garbage :)
- ZenMojo, on 07/16/2009, -0/+3And people keep wondering why we use /s tags.
- ZenMojo, on 07/16/2009, -0/+3100 million slaughtered every year? And how many shark attacks by comparison? Yeah, that *****'s self-defense.
- mparker21311, on 07/16/2009, -0/+2Darwin Awards?
- drunkCatholic, on 07/16/2009, -2/+4Sharks are badass.
- rinote, on 07/16/2009, -0/+2So much for once bit twice shy.
- serif69, on 07/16/2009, -0/+2Either you forgot the /s or you need a role model.
- MrRoberts11, on 07/16/2009, -4/+6I love this! so misunderstood. i love the water and don't have any fears being in it. i also recognize its not my natural environment so i respect the dwellers. would you criticize someone who attacks you when youre in their house uninvited? probably not.
- kilodelta, on 07/16/2009, -0/+2come on people, help save sharks!
Ways to get involved:
1. Watch and tell your friends to see Sharkwater. Find out more at www.sharkwater.com.
2. Tell teachers and students to watch Sharkwater, then download the study guides at www.sharkwater.com for info and photos about shark conservation.
3. Don’t eat shark fin soup—refuse to eat at restaurants that serve it; encourage others to do the same.
4. Dive and snorkel with sharks. The more money that goes into shark tourism the more people will realize the value of keeping sharks alive.
5. Find out if your country is one of the 17 countries that have banned shark finning. If not, write your local government official asking them to ban shark finning.
6. Demand that your country stop the sale/importation of shark fins.
7. Click here if you would like to volunteer your product, service or talents at some future date.
8. Start a letter writing campaign to the Secretary General of the UN requesting international bans on shark finning and the importation of fins. Click here to send a letter.
9. Visit www.seashepherd.org and similar organizations such as www.oceana.org and www.wildaid.com, to take action to save sharks.
10. You can donate to help save sharks at www.sharkwater.com. - askantik, on 07/16/2009, -0/+2I disagree with mikesbaker on one part.
You're a douche if you go INTO THE OCEAN (where sharks live) and then get pissed when you're attacked by one. I'm not saying when I'm in the ocean that I want to be attacked, but they are predators. When humans go into the oceans, we are prey. It's a well-known risk you take when you get in the ocean. It's his own damned fault.
On the other hand, it's cool that this dude has learned better. And I do praise him for that, but it's still pretty stupid to "kill a few sharks for revenge." Since the sharks he attacked weren't the ones that attacked him, it's pretty damned dumb. - inactive, on 07/16/2009, -0/+2troll attempt - unsuccessful
- mobilebond, on 07/16/2009, -0/+2Yeah they are endangered. Did you know that this (2009) is the "Shark Protection" year.
http://ww.am/15q - appleofdischord, on 07/16/2009, -2/+3The solution, of course, is to kill all animals.
- Momukun, on 07/18/2009, -0/+1These people are suffering from a rare condition known as "Sharkholm Syndrome."
- inactive, on 07/16/2009, -0/+1did I say that, NO.
also, a car accident isn't even remotely close to an attack by a wild animal so your analogy is totally retarded. you and Octoberlull are the real douchebags here.
this man should be praised for realizing that he can't take revenge on nature and becoming a better person than he was, and trying to help the wild animal that maimed him - heknowsnobetter, on 07/28/2009, -0/+1I agree 100% that sharks need to be protected!! However, it 's a shame the man ( AL Brenneka) who speaks on behalf of this group of survivors is a known shark killer. I used to fish and scuba dive with Al when he lived in Florida and he would brag and pride himself on how many sharks he killed out of spite. Last time I heard, he had killed over 100 + sharks. I sure hope this is his way of repenting.
- inactive, on 07/16/2009, -0/+1amazing what losing an arm will do to your perspective
- shunban, on 07/16/2009, -0/+1Or if you went to the hood and get shot up.
- jba68, on 07/16/2009, -1/+2cut the guy some slack. he got his armed chomped off and was pissed and bitter. He got over it and became an activist for them.
You are the idiot for failing to realize folks cannot change their behavior. I doubt that you are without any stupid actions in your life. - inactive, on 07/16/2009, -0/+1The point is, he learned the error of his ways.
- freshyill, on 07/16/2009, -1/+2Al Brenneka was attacked while surfing down the coast in Delray Beach. "I did kill a couple sharks, taking revenge and stuff like that, but that was in the very beginning before I started to learn about sharks."
Wait. What the *****? He took *revenge* on dumb animals that were just following their instinct? Oh, it's OK because it was *before* he learned that sharks are giant predatory fish that live in the ocean and like to eat other things that swim in the ocean.
What a ***** idiot. These are animals, not people. - inactive, on 07/16/2009, -2/+2"interpret anything a human does while it's around as 'respect'"
Obviously not, it is a wild creature. That is not what he meant. The point would be not "putting yourself in danger" but understanding the consequences and being able to identify conditions that may signify a dangerous situation.
" a foolish way of looking at things. Sharks don't attack because you are in their house"
No but since you are not a natural occurence in their "house" they might "get curious" to see if you are food as they are known to do. - OregonSeafood, on 11/12/2009, -0/+0Protect the Shark! Well done! Keep up the great work.
Oregon-Seafood.com - nemof, on 07/16/2009, -1/+1Rappers kill people, should we kill them?
- inactive, on 07/16/2009, -5/+5""I did kill a couple sharks, taking revenge and stuff like that" What a ***** douchebag.
- askantik, on 07/16/2009, -1/+1How do you know sharks are dumb? Essentially all WE do is act on instincts, ours are just different from shark instincts.
And you said, "These are animals, not people." People are part of the animal kingdom. - freshyill, on 07/16/2009, -1/+1What the hell are you talking about?
- vinomatt, on 07/16/2009, -2/+1Revenge. Ur doin it wrong!
- Presbyterian, on 07/16/2009, -5/+3100 million sharks slaughtered per year?.
Those people deserve to be attacked. - jba68, on 07/16/2009, -6/+2I dig sharks, but that is a foolish way of looking at things. Sharks don't attack because you are in their house.
They might get curious and chomp you... or maybe they are hungry...again, Chomp.
And they are living so probably develop certain characteristics, but they do not have the same thoughts that you and I would in regards to "dis mah house bitch" - atm0, on 07/16/2009, -8/+3Have fun respecting that shark while he's mistaking your arm for some yummy seal flipper. Not that I disagree with the cause these people are supporting, but a shark could never interpret anything a human does while it's around as 'respect'. The best you can do is avoid putting yourself in danger in the first place.
- TheBogie, on 07/16/2009, -9/+3***** sharks.
I don't give a ***** that they're in their natural habitat or their role in the food chain or any of that other crap. We should exterminate each and every shark we can.
Sharks kill people, so we should kill the sharks. It's not rocket science.
