Pictured: X-ray of the python who swallowed a kitten
dailymail.co.uk — This amazing X-ray picture shows the skeleton of a kitten inside a python's stomach after being devoured in one gulp by the predator. Eight-week-old tabby Kohl was seized by the slithering assassin while in the garden of her owner's home in Australia's tropical Northern Territory. The snake was found with a "bulging belly" by 14-year-old Taara...

Am I the only one confused as to why they are protecting a wild animal from predators?- JoelleGutierrez, on 05/08/2008, -1/+19They meant protecting the python from other predators such as pedophiles.
- visionaryIX, on 05/08/2008, -0/+2There's a serial seal rapist on the loose.
- rentmitchum, on 05/08/2008, -6/+1I say throw it's ass into a river.
- noisician, on 05/08/2008, -0/+15i like it - once it is done digesting this kitten, put it back in that backyard to hunt for the next one
- Navicerts, on 05/08/2008, -0/+14I think because they are going to relocate it into a new area they are already giving it a disadvantage; might as well not compile that disadvantage with the fact it can't move well. This is an assumption though, they didn't say they would relocate it.
- ZenMojo, on 05/08/2008, -0/+2Disadvantage. How dare those people feed it a live kitten!
- JoelleGutierrez, on 05/08/2008, -1/+19They meant protecting the python from other predators such as pedophiles.
- dudefaceguyman, on 05/08/2008, -12/+13Psh, if that happened to my pet I'd of gone on a savage with a weed whacker on that bugger. I know it's nature blahblah, but what if something you care about gets eaten by say, a bear? You don't just say, "Oh well" you kill that mother ***** bear! Not that I'd have a vendetta against all bears, but that one particular one I would..-same with the snake in this case.
- inefekt, on 05/08/2008, -2/+5That's the difference between humans and animals. We kill for revenge, animals kill for survival ie they need to ***** EAT!
- dudefaceguyman, on 05/08/2008, -0/+7Yes I see that and it would be unfortunate to be a snake that decided my pets would make a good dinner..as it wouldn't end well for em.
- doctechnical, on 05/08/2008, -0/+3Even if I saw a snake eat a kitten that wasn't a pet, my thought process would be "If there are snakes around here big enough to snarf a whole kitten, I wonder if there are any that would be big enough to constrict a kid? Well, this one sure isn't going to get that big. Mr. Python, meet Mr. Smoothbore. Open wide now..."
- Relentl3ss, on 05/08/2008, -0/+10You ever seen a mother animal exact her revenge on something/one that has attacked her young?
- RogueJedi86, on 05/08/2008, -0/+4So inefekt, are you saying you wouldn't get mad at all if a snake ate a human baby(maybe even your baby)? The snake would be killing for survival. And that seems to be okay with you.
- Kajarago, on 05/08/2008, -1/+0If anyone is careless enough to leave a baby where a snake can eat it, then that's not the snake's fault, now is it?
- doctechnical, on 05/08/2008, -0/+4Animals kill for reasons other than survival - cats will kill stuff just because they enjoy it. And every once in a while I find a half a snake on the porch. That's how much kitteh loves me, he brings tribute.
- dudefaceguyman, on 05/08/2008, -0/+7Yes I see that and it would be unfortunate to be a snake that decided my pets would make a good dinner..as it wouldn't end well for em.
- MrBone, on 05/08/2008, -3/+3If it was a bear, sure. If bears or other large mammals start attacking humans/dogs/etc then they will continue to do so. But a snake? They are much more driven by instinct, it's not likely they will be repeat offenders (lol) so just move them to a natural habitat.
- Navicerts, on 05/08/2008, -0/+2Yeah, and bears kill because they are mean! /sarcasim
- echo2501, on 05/08/2008, -0/+4You kill the bear because it's the #1 threat to Americans!
- Tontomurphy, on 05/08/2008, -1/+1Are bears working for Al-Qaeda now? I suspected it all along of course with them sneaking through rubbish bins to steal our identity.
- inefekt, on 05/08/2008, -2/+5That's the difference between humans and animals. We kill for revenge, animals kill for survival ie they need to ***** EAT!

- doctechnical, on 05/08/2008, -0/+6It's a snake, not a vacuum cleaner. It didn't just sneak up on the kitten, open it's mouth and suck the whole kitten in before it could react. It's a constrictor: it squeezes it's prey to suffocation, and THEN eats it.
Eating a live kitten is a real pain, believe me. - agentshiro, on 05/08/2008, -0/+3It's like...I wanna know how you would know, but at the same time, I don't...

- Kyan, on 05/08/2008, -0/+1Yeah, what would be cool is an x-ray of a kitten in a snake and that kitten had just swallowed a mouse whole. If they can do that – swallow mice whole.

- jimmiwalker, on 05/08/2008, -8/+11"I showed my masterpiece to the grown-ups, and asked them whether the drawing frightened them. But they answered: "Frighten? Why should any one be frightened by a hat?"
My drawing was not a picture of a hat. It was a picture of a boa constrictor digesting an elephant. But since the grown-ups were not able to understand it, I made another drawing: I drew the inside of a boa constrictor, so that the grown-ups could see it clearly. They always need to have things explained. [...] The grown-ups' response, this time, was to advise me to lay aside my drawings of boa constrictors, whether from the inside or the outside, and devote myself instead to geography, history, arithmetic, and grammar. That is why, at the age of six, I gave up what might have been a magnificent career as a painter. I had been disheartened by the failure of my Drawing Number One and my Drawing Number Two. Grown-ups never understand anything by themselves, and it is tiresome for children to be always and forever explaining things to them."- MacEnvy, on 05/08/2008, -1/+2That's my wife's favorite book.

If this happened in the US the family would probably demand the snake be killed for justice- BOFH139, on 05/08/2008, -8/+5Or send in the US Army, to disarm "all Snakes" of weapons of mass destruction (WMD), to end "Snakes" support for terrorism, and to free the "Snake" people.*

- NJank, on 05/08/2008, -1/+2for great justice...
- diadem2, on 05/08/2008, -1/+7You'd let a wild animal go that killed a pet?
- saikyan, on 05/08/2008, -6/+6Absolutely. It's the owners responsibility to watch their pet. The snake did nothing wrong, and killing it serves no purpose unless it's also threatening human lives... which only monstrous or poisonous snakes are capable of.
- diadem2, on 05/08/2008, -4/+1That creature exists only because we let it.
- saikyan, on 05/08/2008, -0/+2Yeah, nice attitude. Also completely beside the point.
- diadem2, on 05/08/2008, -4/+1That creature exists only because we let it.
- RadiatedAnt, on 05/08/2008, -2/+3nature demands it
- Marnault, on 05/08/2008, -0/+6The snake was simply trying to eat, and its not like ate a baby or something. Snakes kinda have to kill things to eat, killing an animal for doing something that is normal doesn't do anyone any good.
Killing the snake would just mean that you now have two dead animals and that the cats death was totally pointless. Its not like once released into the wild the snake will try to hunt more cats, more likely it will eat anything that fits its diet that it comes across.- RadiatedAnt, on 05/08/2008, -1/+7you never know, once you've tasted cat flesh you can't go back just ask the koreans
- saikyan, on 05/08/2008, -6/+6Absolutely. It's the owners responsibility to watch their pet. The snake did nothing wrong, and killing it serves no purpose unless it's also threatening human lives... which only monstrous or poisonous snakes are capable of.

- HOGBALLS, on 05/08/2008, -8/+2I like my kitties smothered in sweet&sour sauce,I wonder if the snake would?
- purzzzell, on 05/08/2008, -5/+4Dumb how the article said the kittens skull was "three times the size of the snake" - it was three times the size of the snake's TAIL as shown in the x-ray - it was only about equal to the snake's girth, which isn't abnormal for a snake to be able to eat (and is small for some breeds)
- Shelby69, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1"Despite Kohl having a skull three times the size of the 5ft-long python"
They are comparing sizes of skulls. That "tail" you see is the snake's skull, clearly 3 times smaller than the kitten's skull. Look how tiny the snakes skull is in the picture with the man holding the snake.
- Shelby69, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1"Despite Kohl having a skull three times the size of the 5ft-long python"
- SuperVepr308, on 05/08/2008, -0/+2Man, that is a rough way to go...
- NJank, on 05/08/2008, -1/+12you think that was rough? wait until the snake has to go...
- SuperVepr308, on 05/08/2008, -0/+1Damn good point.
- NJank, on 05/08/2008, -1/+12you think that was rough? wait until the snake has to go...
- MrFurious2k, on 05/08/2008, -0/+15A Savage attack? Do snakes normally just mug their victims, steal their wallet, and take off? If so, this mugging must have gone really wrong.
- Marnault, on 05/08/2008, -0/+2Ya I would say it was a pretty normal attack, other than the fact it was a cat. The snake probably couldn't find anything more suitable to eat, was hungry and just went for whatever it could find.
- uptwolait, on 05/08/2008, -1/+2Am I the only one who sees the irony of this taking place in Darwin? Survival of the fittest indeed!
- nitro22000, on 05/08/2008, -1/+0You know, I don't particularly hate snakes or love cats, but they want to move that snake because it might fall victim to other predators? Doesn't that just seem... natural? If that snake gets killed by a "predator", wouldn't that just be the cycle of life? Instead they want to take it to the animal hospital and wait for it to digest. I for one think that family should be bumped to snake predator status.
