- wattznext, on 07/18/2008, -2/+60Anyone else sick of articles assuming they are the authority on what i do and don't know?
- Someguy101, on 02/19/2009, -1/+41I knew them all, but I have an unfair advantage I think. I have a few I'd add to the list as well that I think a lot of people would find interesting. Like this guy http://www.rstours.com/assets/images/rosy_lipped_b ... or there's http://www.oceanlight.com/lightbox.php?sp=Mola_mol ... or ... I could list more but you guys probably aren't as interested in this stuff as I am.
This is why I don't go to parties anymore :( - inactive, on 07/18/2008, -2/+29I knew they existed
- agreenall, on 07/18/2008, -0/+16"angler fish - decompression caused the stomach to invert"
looking at that image caused my stomach to invert. - Danby123, on 07/18/2008, -0/+13I liked the fact that it was all on the same page, as opposed to all those endless photo albums and slidshows that people submit.
- HumanityLost, on 07/18/2008, -1/+14Evolution is great.
- jarjarwang, on 07/18/2008, -0/+9I already knew about fish before reading the article.
- serif69, on 07/18/2008, -0/+8Why does this headline assume nobody watches the Discovery Channel?
- Hockey13, on 07/18/2008, -0/+8"Now we come to the section featuring deep sea beauties. Hold on to your breakfast, these guys are uglier than the current American stock market situation."
Heyooo!!! Zing!
Add this to the list of bad jokes you should never write on your blog if you don't want to seem outdated in a very short amount of time. - Visk, on 07/18/2008, -0/+7The Hatchetfish looks freaking awesome. The front looks like some sort of ghost.
- RadivFangstein, on 07/18/2008, -1/+8Not as cool as geoducks
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a4 ... - tattoojoo, on 07/18/2008, -0/+6dugg for 'piglet squid'
- Buzzbean, on 07/18/2008, -0/+6Knew about all except one of them (the umbrella-mouth gulper eel). The christmas tree worms live in more than just the places listed. I've seen them on dives off the coasts of Belize and the Keys for sure. I'm sure they're pretty wide-spread.
One creature I've always been facinated by that weren't listed and are definitely odd-looking is the nudibranch. There are many many sizes and colors, some more bizarre looking than others. Seeing them actually swim is amazing.
http://www.sergeyphoto.com/underwater/nudibranchs. ... - krets, on 07/18/2008, -0/+6The Rosy-Lipped Batfish looks like your mom.
- ospsp, on 07/18/2008, -1/+5wtf? i have seen those before. didnt see the kissing fish (aka rosy lipped batfish) posted by scubaman though.
- DougVitale, on 07/18/2008, -0/+4Whether there's a God who created these creatures or if they evolved from more primitive life forms, these marine animals are simply amazing and mind-boggling. It's like they are refugees from an alien world who somehow ended up on our planet.
- rootsm3, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3I think I would soil my suit if I saw some of those mofo's.
- DaftMonk, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3*shudder* The hatchet fish looks like it stares into your soul...
http://skitch.com/daftmonk/tgs4/hatchet-fish - EvansHall, on 07/18/2008, -2/+5No, minor things like that don't bug me at all.
- madeingermany, on 07/18/2008, -1/+4That was the first time that useless addition to a digg title was true for me.
- altinnovation, on 07/18/2008, -1/+4I swear that this appears on the front page like every two months.
- chompapotamus, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2I love how weird deep-sea creatures get posted on digg every full moon.
- TheGoat7, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2More advertisements in articles please.
Though those creatures are pretty cool. - idioteque1025, on 07/18/2008, -1/+3damn nature you scary
- ABadPerson, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2Nor as delicious.
Those prices are so inflated, good thing I live in Vancouver. :D - cnot3, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2I had christmas tree worms on the live rock in my aquarium, I think I am aware of their existence.
- tortov, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2Okay, I didn't know about the piglet squid, and that is cool.
However, I just registered to express my surprise - nay, my *outrage* that the vampire squid isn't on this list! It's just so bizarre and alien. I'm still amazed we share the planet with them.

Great find, thanks for submitting!! - Someguy101, on 02/19/2009, -0/+2If that wasn't enough something kind of neat about angler fish is the way they mate. The male who is a lot smaller than the female bites into her and he actually becomes fused to the female for the rest of his life. In deep water environments this allows them to have a higher success rate in breeding where finding a mate can be difficult.
I once saw an angler fish (it was dead) at an aquarium that had a male attached to it. It was really cool to see.
Digg is a smart crowd so I suspect this is nothing new to most people here... - Someguy101, on 02/19/2009, -0/+2Actually your analogy would work better if you called us alien life forms landing on their planet. They were here first.
- Lord_oftheTrons, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2I'd have to add the Mantis Shrimp to this list. Here are a couple videos including one messing up a blue ring octopus' day.

http://digg.com/odd_stuff/Blue_Planet_The_Hairy_An ... - ModeSeven, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2I wish I lived under the sea...I really do.
- Someguy101, on 02/19/2009, -0/+1Me too! We're getting close
http://www.firstscience.com/home/perspectives/edit ... - Andrwmorph, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1Damn nature, you scary!
- Rowwen, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1Same goes for me, and I got to say, I really like the sea dragon.
And I've got the chance to actually see the Mola Mola in person before, it was pretty interesting. - tghd, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1Dugg up for mentioning nudi's
- cheesecake42, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1thaks to digg, I already knew about most of these!
- tghd, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1Not fish they're slugs.
- Virgule, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1Deep sea things creep me out. Gulper Eel, Viperfish... HUH
- Lonecow, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1How long will it take for someone to make these in Spore?
- hotpuck6, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1Clam Penis?
- mrgermy, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1...Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the really really deep water...
- MrTea, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1and SEAKING, ***** YEAH
- akabugeyes, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1Hatchetfish looks awesome. It looks like it could be some alien from Star Wars.
- goddessophia, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1I love the ocean and all its marine life regardless of how pretty or creepy they may seem! I picked up two Flamingo Tongue Snails in Belize and its true they are only pretty while they are alive but the shells are not necessarily white either they are more like a peaches and cream color. I also brought home a Queen Conch and some purple Cowrie shelled snails to that I have not had the pleasure of identifying.
You have to keep a pouch for all your deep sea treasures or you won't have a place to keep them! - mrgermy, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1I have a furry land cucumber. . . . it's not very pleasant.
