- Nayson, on 04/14/2008, -2/+104Okay, how many of us would have quite liked it if the Elephant had have got them?
- ultralights, on 04/14/2008, -2/+53how hard is it to turn the engine off, sit there in silence and take in the beauty of the moment, the elephants would have moved on in their own time...
- tokyostory, on 04/14/2008, -0/+46Did the guy in the video say, "Feed her the Japanese tourists,"? What a dick.
- MississippiLife, on 04/14/2008, -2/+40Tourists seem so stupid sometimes, you know.
If I was an angry elephant, I might have charged too... - fauxdeluxe, on 04/14/2008, -3/+31I sat in hope of the elephant unturning their vehicle, then stomping the flamming wreckage repeatedly. No such luck.
***** ignorant pricks. - adammharvey, on 04/14/2008, -2/+18***** morons
- Murdats, on 04/14/2008, -0/+15that is just cruel, the elephants have surrounded the young and are clearly being defensive, so they keep taunting them.
they are just lucky that elephant wasn't serious about catching them and didnt charge full speed otherwise they would be in trouble.
though the elephant did succeed in chasing them off so I guess it worked. - schroderr224, on 04/14/2008, -3/+17Clearly that's two guys in an elephant suit.
- Murdats, on 04/14/2008, -0/+13no, he is an expert in common sense and life. mammals behave much like people, and we also have instinct to tell us how animals are feeling.
ever wonder how we lived beside them for centuries before we had cars and guns? because we knew when elephants gathered around their young and made threatening advances and noises they were being defensive,
and do you know what you dont do to a pack of defensive creatures with young who are much bigger then you with pointy faces? antagonise them, they are lucky that the charging elephant was being defensive and not going for the kill. - pugs909, on 04/14/2008, -0/+8i wouldn't want the 'phant to injure his tusk on the car
- pyper, on 04/14/2008, -0/+7nobody seems to realize that tourisim is a large part of what keeps the elephants from being poached for their tusks.
Tourism pays for the park rangers which in turn protect the herds from poaching. - kmb1794, on 04/14/2008, -1/+8LEAVE THE ELEPHANTS ALOOOOOOOOOOOOONE!
- Paradoxt, on 04/14/2008, -0/+6Douchebags. Isn't the whole point of a safari to observe, rather than to piss off?
- dbug, on 04/14/2008, -2/+7God how I hate people sometimes.
- flammenwurfer, on 04/14/2008, -0/+5Just cuz the guy being a dumbass and recording it happens to be American (do we even know for sure he's American?) doesn't mean that you need to lecture all Americans for being stupid. I and many other Americans on digg would never think of doing something that stupid. Thank you.
- lexmillie, on 04/14/2008, -2/+6Why not just leave wild animals alone?
- rbdkx, on 04/14/2008, -7/+11What is the point of racing the engine and tormenting them? Why could they not just set and enjoy the moment, and the elephants would have moved on. But no... we are the mighty humans who have to show every living thing who is boss!
Well I guess the elephant showed them ay? - inactive, on 04/14/2008, -1/+5The engine noise is the only thing that can stop an elephant from crushing a car. The honk just pisses them off. And the elephants weren't being passive, they were forming in defense and the bulls were flapping their ears. That's like saying "if you don't go away now, the biggest elephant we got will attack you".
- warpsmith, on 04/14/2008, -0/+4That's why they drink.
- sykotic, on 04/14/2008, -1/+5Did he say "feed them the Japanese tourists" at the end? I swore I heard something like it.
- blankoboy, on 04/14/2008, -3/+7Any guesses as to his nationality? A cookie for you if you say American.....what an ignorant *****.
- zaptoman, on 04/14/2008, -0/+3I was thinking the EXACT same thing. "Objects in Mirror May Be Closer Than They Appear"
- megamod, on 04/14/2008, -0/+3Not only was your comment very similar to the comment right above you...you posted it twice?
- haidalangara, on 04/14/2008, -0/+3jurassic park anyone?
- xuanyan, on 04/14/2008, -0/+3STOP IT
- cawpin, on 04/14/2008, -0/+3Agreed.
From the Youtube description, "Video shot in earyly 1998. Elepants name is Mara and was know to chase locals on a regular basis."
So, you know she chases people and you agitate her? Good job.
Also, they're lucky the elephant wasn't charging full speed. They can run upwards of 40mph. The truck can't go nearly that fast backwards. - robbiemuffin, on 04/14/2008, -0/+3yeah that was really, really bad. I had to digg it :)
--That elephant was like "hmmm, landrover... I can take it" - SuperRamenNoodz, on 04/14/2008, -0/+3Safari's clearly fail hard.
What a bunch of ***** - inactive, on 04/14/2008, -0/+3IF I PRESS THE SHIFT KEY I DO NOT EXPECT IT TO ACTIVATE CAPS-LOCK.
- aphexconspiracy, on 04/14/2008, -0/+2I'd be ***** pissed too if someone kept revving their engine at me while I was crossing the road.
- SirFlatulence, on 04/14/2008, -0/+2That wasn't cruel that was downright stupid. This is a creature that regularly knocks down tree's just because it likes the roots!! If you are ever at any of the game reserves around the Kruger park in South Africa read some of the guest book entries. There are dozens of horror stories of cars being charged by elephants where the elephant knocks the car over or rams the car so hard their tusks go straight through a solid land rover door.
- inactive, on 04/14/2008, -0/+2Yeah, not much meat on them folk. (just joking. agree with dick description of parent)
- smrekar, on 04/14/2008, -0/+2Also, you lack an understanding of the elephant mentality. If you move forward, they might attack out of fear. If you reverse, they will think they have won. The correct move is to hold your ground. Not sure what he was trying with the revving, could be correct as he might have been emulating a display.
You never want to be trapped in or be at the foot of a stampede. So when you encounter this situation it is best to break it up if you can.
See how when the 1 elephant started to charge, one next to him did out of instinct?
I don't think they were trying to torment the elephants, i think they were trying to get them to move.
Question is, would you be more upset if a human died or an elephant died? - inactive, on 04/14/2008, -1/+3Crickey!
- cl2yp71c, on 04/14/2008, -0/+2***** Paparazzi...
- toastmonster, on 04/14/2008, -0/+2Get out of the car and then see how funny it is. Give respect where respect is due
- robbiemuffin, on 04/14/2008, -0/+2In the drinking section for the elephant page on wikipedia is possibly the most amazing sentence about elephants' aggressive habits you will ever read:
Elephants have used their powers of deduction to "hijack" trucks carrying sugarcane. - aphexconspiracy, on 04/14/2008, -0/+2I swear I thought I was hearing things when they said that...
- jeremyduffy, on 04/14/2008, -0/+2Good thing elephants top land speed is only about 15 mph or those guys would have been hosed. One another note, that other truck was lucky the elephant didn't take them out instead.
- netsnake24, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1Take it easy, it's just a car that damages your environment...!
- hutectro, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1An elephant's top speed is about 25 mph (40 kph). They normally only reach this top speed on rare occasions when they are scared or upset. They normally move at a much lower running speed of about 12 to 20 mph (19 to 32 kph) depending on the species, temperate and other factors. However, they tend to stick to a steady walking speed of about 4 mph (6 kph) under normally circumstances.
- codechino, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1in response to everyone saying they wished the elephant wouldve trampled the car etc etc: doing so wouldve likely earned the elephant the label of "problem animal" and ensured its execution. theres no justice.
- Jordan117, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1It's an elephant that never forgets... to KILL.
- ensert13, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1dumbasses?
- Richards23, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1I love how the Americans can be such ***** idiots. I seriously hate a vast majority of Americans, I won't classify all of them as idiots. In the end I love how they mention the Japanese tourists, yet you don't see them do anything but watch the Elephants and at even a greater distant. ***** Americans conduct yourself with some sort of morals and pride! I wish these wildlife trips could be monitored further to prevent such acts but I know there aren't the resources for that >.
- Majorkerina, on 04/15/2008, -0/+1Should've taken away its credit card...
- Greenergrass, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1Arg I hate this kind of tourism, this elephant was right to run after them, but he had no engine, just his natural composure.
- marksands07, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1would
- hutectro, on 04/14/2008, -1/+2cawpin Have to correct you------An elephant's top speed is about 25 mph (40 kph).
