- asgardshill, on 05/31/2009, -3/+17Maybe they came out of the water because they wanted to. Who are we to just put them back?
- Strongo, on 05/31/2009, -1/+11I'm tired of whales and the lengths they go to get attention.
- czernel, on 05/31/2009, -1/+8By the Navy's own estimates, even 300 miles from the source, these sonic waves can retain an intensity of 140 decibels -- a hundred times more intense than the level known to alter the behavior of large whales.

- defwheezer, on 05/31/2009, -1/+5They said the same thing about YOUR rights too...
- Andrwmorph, on 05/31/2009, -1/+5Its a failed invasion!
THE TIME OF THE WHALE IS ALMOST UPON US! - inactive, on 05/31/2009, -0/+3OM NOM NOM NOM!
- opticwind, on 05/31/2009, -0/+3I think I speak for everyone when I say that we're all pretty tired of their *****.
- mksmothers, on 05/31/2009, -1/+4Shouldn't the Prince of Whales get involved?
- ForlornHope, on 05/31/2009, -0/+3Exploding whale video? Cleverly alluding to a fictional character being involved? Ringing any bells? No?
Kids these days... - opticwind, on 05/31/2009, -0/+2Would have been a LOT funnier if there were only 42.
- Jhiaxuz, on 05/31/2009, -0/+2What I find strange is that when you watch nature shows that document such events as baby Sea Turtles running for the water off the beach, the person who is doing the documentary will not help the baby Sea Turtles in any because it interferes with mother nature.
So, by helping these Whales, does this not go against the way mother nature intended for or are those documentarians just dicks? - ForlornHope, on 05/31/2009, -1/+3Dear Gordon Freeman,
Remember that job you did in the 70's? We need that, but on a bigger scale.
Regards,
Earth. - bow39, on 05/31/2009, -0/+2although very sad but if they can't be saved by real humans then why don't we give them to the Japs the dead ones that is, then we we might be able to save other whales that these inhumane people are about to slaughter
- feanix, on 05/31/2009, -0/+2Dicks like these guys? :D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Vmnq5dBF7Y (blowing up a whale, look it up if you're paranoid bout getting rolled) - blankman, on 05/31/2009, -0/+2Exactly. It's just nature taking its course, and it's been happening for hundreds of years. I remember seeing a show that presented a bunch of theories as to why they do it. The only one I remember is, they think they sometimes do it when in severe pain.
But the anthropomorphizing people who would throw these animals right back into the water can't understand this. - TheGuruStud, on 05/31/2009, -4/+6Is everyone forgetting about navy tests causing whales to get beached after ***** up their navigation with high powered sonar?
They did it on the US east coast multiple times and many whales paid the price. Who says the ***** weren't doing tests nearby and caused this?
*preparing to be buried b/c anything against govts is crazy* - Snyz, on 05/31/2009, -2/+4Damn rescue teams! They'll just grow legs, let evolution run its course.
- commenter01, on 05/31/2009, -0/+2I keep thinking this. Just let them do their thing, ya know? You don't see whales criticizing us when we go for a tanning session at the beach....
- dudefaceguyman, on 05/31/2009, -0/+2I'm just taking a random guess, but I think it might have to do with the fact most whales are severly endangered. So for the time being we're helping their retarded ass in situations like this to prevent them from going extinct.
- Nintendesert, on 05/31/2009, -0/+2Because whales have only been beaching themselves since the invention and deployment of sonar by humans.
- Waggs, on 05/31/2009, -0/+1And maybe some Spock-iesquian alien is watching from orbit, saying:
"Fascinating, that one species has more compassion for other species than they do for their own"
The "maybe" and "should" argument(s) intrigues me. - PorcusWallabee, on 05/31/2009, -0/+1But if a migration pattern is thrown off due to irregularities any where else it could still have an effect in Cape Town. Butterfly effect style.
- StarDust13, on 05/31/2009, -0/+1They were attempting to avoid Somali pirates and beached by accident, damn pirates :(.
- enkideridu, on 05/31/2009, -0/+1news channels from more than 12 hours ago already had this story, and, more importantly, they already reported that they had to put down around 30 whales after saving 20+.
- phoenix2330, on 05/31/2009, -1/+2i've always wondered why they do that to themselves, maybe sonar is messing up there echo location
- PorcusWallabee, on 05/31/2009, -1/+2We should all see this as a Bad omen. Over fishing (and maybe pollution) probably drove these whales to shore (much like how it drove poor fishermen off land to become pirates). I doubt that human interference didn't play a role in this. 1-2 whales maybe but not 55 f-ing whales.
- inactive, on 05/31/2009, -1/+2Why so many beached whale stories on digg in the past week?
- inactive, on 05/31/2009, -0/+1south africa has the best managed fishery in the world.
- phanfave, on 05/31/2009, -1/+2Who's to say we're not responsible for this event. I've read about Military SONAR making the whales deaf and interfering with their sense of direction. Who knows.
- mikemehak, on 06/01/2009, -0/+1that said, one whale fetches quite a bit of money
- Johnathan1707, on 05/31/2009, -1/+2mammal*
- feanix, on 05/31/2009, -2/+3Dude, I lived in South Africa till i was 17 and the beach is awesome. Throwing these whales back in the water is discrimination, pure and simple. D:<
DAMN YOU WHALE HATERS! STOPING HATING ON CETACEANS! - defwheezer, on 05/31/2009, -0/+1Between overfishing, Navy high power sonar, and increasing acidity the oceans and their inhabitants are being killed off at an alarming rate.

http://www.nrdc.org/wildlife/marine/sonar.asp - vanza001, on 05/31/2009, -0/+1Thank you for that video. How could they NOT see that coming.
- Ahnteis, on 05/31/2009, -0/+1We're part of nature. We think it's in our best interest (for whatever reason) to help. Maybe we're temporary symbiotes.
- dudefaceguyman, on 05/31/2009, -0/+1Transporting whales from Africa to Japan might be a teeeeeeny bit expensive..
- Razorfiend, on 05/31/2009, -0/+1Well, nobody really does documentaries on beached whales, but if they did I'm sure they would refrain from helping. The people who go out there and help are doing so for one of two reasons a) They can't stand to see a living thing die, b) They don't want the whale carcasses stinking up their beach.
Oh, and the documentary makers are just dicks. - putumare, on 05/31/2009, -0/+1Well anytime any of you stranded or drowned why not call that nature intended event, thank God no rescuer bother to read digg before they do something
- rda1441, on 05/31/2009, -1/+2What's more important.....national security or some over sized fish?

- arcadiansky, on 05/31/2009, -0/+0why can't there ever be pictures in these sorts of articles?
