Me-Hey baby, did you know that the heart of a blue whale is as big as a car.
Her-*panties drop* - ChiGGz, on 02/15/2008, -0/+16So what kind of mileage would I get with a heart like that?
- jgsketch, on 02/15/2008, -2/+14Heart the size of a car. How far do you think blood would spray from that beast.
- hpfreak26, on 02/15/2008, -1/+9You just carried on an entire conversation with yourself. Be ashamed.
- 40hands, on 02/15/2008, -1/+8You should probably stop talking to yourself.
- mindspaceindia, on 02/15/2008, -0/+7Pythons grow bigger hearts at mealtimes.
Apparently the way to a python's heart is through its stomach as well - deviouskoopa, on 02/15/2008, -1/+7Sorry, I have to:
http://icanhascheezburger.files.wordpress.com/2008 ... - davidrools, on 02/15/2008, -0/+5probably not that far if it only beats 6 times a minute (so each heartbeat takes 10 seconds)...but it would probably dump 20 gallons with each beat
okay now that i think about it, to be technical, the spray distance probably depends more on pressure than anything else, so size doesn't really matter (that's what she said) - accessviolation, on 02/15/2008, -0/+4Actually you're wrong. Octopuses is correct, though octopodes is also correct but considered overly pedantic. Octopi is the incorrect plural, because it is based on a false assumption of the etymological roots of "octopus."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octopus#Terminology - inactive, on 02/15/2008, -3/+7Haha well a human heart squirts blood about 30 feet. I can only imagine...
- SoapboxDave, on 02/15/2008, -1/+4Octopuses have three hearts. Now that is strange love.
- mal1964, on 02/15/2008, -0/+3The 6 heart beats per minute on the blue whale is cool. I know great athletes can endure longer with low heart rates. Lance Armstrong has a resting heart rate of 32-34 bpm but his resting cardiac output is about the same as an untrained person who has a resting heart rate of 70 bpm?
- mindspaceindia, on 02/15/2008, -1/+3Shouldn't it be buried for bad pun title?
- kristinsj, on 02/15/2008, -0/+2One of my favorite sports facts is that when the Triple Crown winner Secretariat was autopsied, doctors found that his heart was two and a half times larger than that of the average horse.
- maci01, on 02/15/2008, -0/+2NO. Its cause they were all with their girlfriends on Valentines day!
JUST KIDDING. : ( I'M SO ALONE - mattmcm, on 02/15/2008, -2/+3Enough.
- HiKevinRose, on 02/15/2008, -0/+1Nah, I'm in a good mood. It made me smile a little. ;-)
- savagesteve13, on 02/18/2008, -0/+1An octopus has copper-based blood, wow now I know where Gene Roddenberry got that idea for Spock's blood.
- Twenty, on 02/15/2008, -1/+2Seeing's how this is a day late, it must have taken quite a while to circulate amongst digg users before hitting the front page.
- neko, on 02/15/2008, -0/+1And if you kill anyone, remember to eat their heart, to gain their courage.
- saranagati, on 02/15/2008, -0/+1They missed what i think is the most interesting thing about hearts. All mammals live for about 1.5 billion heart beats, whether its a humming bird, mouse, turtle or elephant.
- accessviolation, on 02/15/2008, -0/+1I guess diggers just don't have their fingers on the pulse of the wildlife facts community.
- edwartica, on 02/15/2008, -0/+1I would quit while you're ahead. Oih wait, you're pretty much too far gone to come out on top. Keep going,we're laughing at you, not with you.
- inactive, on 02/15/2008, -0/+1supposedly if you chop away most of a salamander's heart it will regenerate. if you only chop away a little, it dies.
(source: The Body Electric, awesome book) - binnis, on 02/15/2008, -0/+1So he was the horse version of Lance Armstrong!
- inactive, on 02/15/2008, -0/+1seriously. the Chuck Norris of these jokes has been replaced by a Jeebuz-loving simpleton who needs to have his ass stomped by who he used to be.
- goddex, on 02/16/2008, -0/+0i wasn't aware that humming birds and turtles were mammals.
- Eallan, on 02/15/2008, -2/+2FAIL
- gizram84, on 05/30/2009, -2/+1its octopi, not octopuses
- ncredblstrength, on 02/15/2008, -6/+2The quickest way to a man's heart is with Chuck Norris' fist
- HiKevinRose, on 02/15/2008, -7/+1Dugg for bad pun in title.
- lnxfi, on 02/15/2008, -9/+0I don't know. I guess I really like it better in the second post. Oh well.
- lnxfi, on 02/15/2008, -11/+0Well, on second thought, I guess that makes sense in the original post.
- lnxfi, on 02/15/2008, -12/+0I was only born with 2 chambers to my heart. Take that Lizards!
- lnxfi, on 02/15/2008, -12/+0What I meant to type was "I was born with only 2 chambers to my heart. Take that Lizards!" Curse you fingers...
