Why Is It So Hard to Be Yourself?
pickthebrain.com — ‘Be yourself! ’ This is a common piece of advice, often given before an interview or a date or some other occasion when we need to impress. Sounds like a strange piece of advice, though. How could you not be yourself?

- limevelyn, on 07/10/2008, -0/+6I totally agree. It is time to stop trying to fit in. Just be our own authentic Self!
- netgeek06, on 07/10/2008, -0/+1Be yourself is the way to go and have your own personality.
- sanskover, on 07/10/2008, -2/+5I don't totally agree. There's a danger that when you don't care what others think you can feel liberated to be a complete *****. Compassion involves caring about what others think. There are some valuable reminders in this, however.
- Chassit, on 07/11/2008, -0/+1That is both sad and disgusting. This attitude is why so many people are referred to as sheep. If you don't like me or what I have to say, well then ***** YOU because I do not care :)
- BennyGreenberg, on 07/10/2008, -0/+2Sometimes the good of the one outweighs the good of the many. And you have to be good with yourself before you can be good with others. It is always better to be yourself. If someone thinks your an ass for it - then f**k them.
- staffell, on 07/10/2008, -0/+2Because we have the internet.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_the_Internet,_nobo ... - miWisdom, on 07/11/2008, -0/+1Why is it so Hard to be Myself? I now understand how our social environment has conditioned us, and why it is so difficult to break out of this hold. This blog post helps to put things into perspective.
- lardoandkeg, on 07/11/2008, -0/+3Because the internet makes it easy for us all to be 6'4, 210, and built like brick ***** houses.
- stradf, on 07/11/2008, -0/+3Because we all have a shell to protect ourselves from this cruel world and the cruel people.
- Haoie, on 07/11/2008, -0/+3It's not hard being yourself.
Hmm, unless you want to be popular, or successful, or rich, or find love... - GreeneMachine, on 07/11/2008, -0/+2Really interesting. Nice work.
- Elliottx, on 07/11/2008, -0/+3Everyone SHOULD be themselves. The people who say they don't care what people think and claim they are being themselves aren't.
People just don't act like themselves around other people and to be perfectly honest it's quite sad and a bit of a relief. If I acted like myself around people or random strangers I'm sure I would freak em out, everyone has their little quirks and crap.
I don't get why people don't act like themselves though...all you have to do instead of putting on a front and acting like someone totally different "Yes please sir, three bags full sir." Is just BE yourself, not act like yourself "Uh yeah please, thanks"
I may try being myself at work today and see how bad/well is pans out. Time to hold stuff weirdly and fiddle with my ears a lot! ^_^
(Yes, most of this is contradictory, but I don't give a ***** about what you think of me.....see what I did there?)
(If you write back with "I see what you did there, There i see what you did, what you did there, I see it" or any other variation of it you will officially be a copycat....no one likes being a copycat)
Here's a little song from Cheap Trick.
"I want you to want me.
I need you to need me.
Id love you to love me.
Im beggin you to beg me.
I want you to want me.
I need you to need me.
Id love you to love me.
Ill shine up the old brown shoes, put on a brand-new shirt.
Ill get home early from work if you say that you love me."
EL - Out. - known, on 07/11/2008, -0/+2I think it is "be true to yourself"
- danielrichard, on 07/11/2008, -0/+1Lol.

Do we need any reason to be ourselves? Yeah, it was something that was written on this week. :)
