- pabloswisdom, on 10/12/2007, -3/+164...with parachutes. Sorry anyone hoping for something grim.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+90Still pretty dangerous that low to the ground.
- mikev, on 10/12/2007, -4/+81In Soviet Russia, the building jumps out of...
oh nevermind, it's getting old anyways - rindin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+58Ya, when you're 80 feet from the ground before your parachute fully inflates I'd say it's pretty nuts....
- ZenMojo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+45I had to check the comments thread before even watching the video. I'm not in the mood for a snuff film.
- Hellman109, on 10/12/2007, -0/+42after 5 bottles of vodka I would be dead and it would just be my body thrown out the window...
- anagoge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+41I am not afraid to say that I would absolutely not have the balls to try something like that.
- Steelfox, on 10/12/2007, -2/+405 bottles of russian vodka would change your mind.
- mungk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+28The camera was attached to his head.
- Tiak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29Don't worry if you were hoping, I'm sure someone with access to a normal parachute (with which it is usually completely impractical to jump from buildings) will try this within the next few hours and that'll be dugg up to the front page. Never lose faith! >.>
But yeah, these parachutes have to be specialized for this purpose... Since last I checked there was a definite reason tall buildings don't use parachutes for emergency escape. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25That would be Moscow State University
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moscow_State_University
It's a big ***** building.
"The central tower being 240m and 36-stories high, was flanked by four huge wings of student and faculty accommodations. It is said to contain a total of 33 kilometers of corridors and 5000 rooms." - Bob042, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27I had to laugh at "univercity" on the youtube title. Almost as bad as skool.
- mflux, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23if this was BF2 or BF2142 you could parachute from 15 feet in the air :)
- sionix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21it was a helm cam, we was watching for any one that might interrupt him, as it is illegal
- joeydoo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+24"base jumping rocks"
Until you hit.....well.... rocks.

(don't watch that ^ )
Those two in the digg video........ Pure Balls of Steel!!!! Dumb Balls of Steel. - rhinocirrus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14They were both going hand held. That wad of fabric in there hand is a pilot chute. It is about 38-48 inches across (jumping that low I hope it was the 48 inch), and it is what pulls the main chute out. It looks like a close call, but It is one thing to watch someone else from above, it is another when it is first hand experience. It was what base jumpers will call a go and throw, or hop and pop for both of them. Actually when the airspeed is that low, you can delay before deploying for a full second and you will still open roughly in the same spot. It has to do with the rate your body accelerates in freefall. I will tell you It was low, but borderline par for the course. Base jumpers are nuts there is no question. I have seen much lower. Some guys get so desperate for a jump , they will actually tape that pilot chute to the structure, and exit in the 150 to 200 foot range. That allows the jumper to get a fully extended chute (not fully open) or line stretch before the tape rips, and the pilot chute takes over. Now that's what I call nuts.
- SuckMyDigg, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18I'd do that with some plastic grocery bags...
- pixelmixer, on 10/12/2007, -7/+20wish granted. your comment is burried
- neuropsychguy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13The video submitter is probably from Russia.
- friedman420, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Can't believe their are windows that high up in a university library, hope no one gets a bad grade.
- zonk3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12And remember kids, stay in school (then jump out of a window).
- nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -9/+20in soviet russia, parachute opens you!
(i really am sorry, couldn't resist) - Ansible, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9When the second guy jumped, the ground came up way fast, it seemed like it was almost a close call there. The other guy took a lot longer to get down.
- Mandeep, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I'd love to try something like that if I had the required knowledge/skills.
- teddyrux, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11No, this is much worse. People know that 'skool' is spelled incorrectly. This person sincerely does not know how to spell.
- danielrh9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I find it funny that the first guy that goes out the window doesn't even hesitate. He's freaking fearless.
- boberto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8It seemed like the 2nd guy waited a bit longer to open his chute. The first did it immediately.
- elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I'll tell you something. If I ever lose enough brain cells to think that jumping out of buildings is a good idea, I'll be opening my chute as SOON AS I POSSIBLY FREAKING CAN.
- idonthack, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Whenever I am about to do dangerous/stupid things, I try to do them quickly so I don't have time to get nervous and change my mind.
- rhinocirrus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5This guy also wants to get out asap to cut down on the bust factor. The second guy can't really jump until his buddy gets out of the way.
- friend18, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7That's awesome/insane.
- roadtrippy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I want to base jump one day. Still trying to just go skydiving first.
- ElectricKetchup, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Most of the buildings around here don't have windows that open and have restricted access to the roof.
- Geekbeard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Don't laugh.
http://www.univercity.ca/
Obviously they're base jumping at SFU... =P
edited to read: I guess that joke's only funny if you've ever seen the SFU campus. - cohortq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4If I ever worked in a building more than 10 stories high, I would get me a parachute just like that.
- CrimsonBlur, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5This was a really, really stupid stunt. 21 stories is only about 210 feet, that's pretty low...
- kkapoor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4That looks like Moscow University. I remember seeing it when I was in Russia its an absolutely massive building.
- JerodSlay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Here is the building
http://www.skyscraperpage.com/cities/?buildingID=182 - maehem, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I wish I was young and immortal again. Those were the days...
- rhinocirrus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Smart thinking. Most that are willing to teach Base, require at least 200 skydives first. Although everyone learns at a different pace, so a good instructor would want to skydive with you first to assess your true skills. There is a reason it looks risky, and that is because it is. Your smart to do it many times out of a plane first, besides this is the best way to get acquainted with some people that know what they are doing. Not much room for error in Base jumping.
- cipher64, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I guess, with base jumping, there is no time to deploy the reserve if the main fails
- MinorLemming, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Just for everyone wondering about the 'reserve' canopy, there isn't one in B.A.S.E. If your first fails, you go in.
- booksandleaves, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6I WISH YOU WOULD STEP BACK FROM THAT LEDGGEEE MY FRIEEEND
- grinin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Haha... I love people on the internet when they say stuff like....
"Yeah... it was a cool base jump... but when I base jump I like to get some more totally sweet air time, and really get the adrenaline flowing...."
sureeeee ya do :D - mapkinase, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Discussing "fearlessness" you have to have in mind that absolute majority of RUssians (Especially from Moscow State University) are atheists, so they think they do not have much to lose.
- Zoomrix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Nice! Funny how he says "Good bye" to the librarian as he jumps and then resites a few of the lesser known cuss words of excitement in Russian.
- jellygraph, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i wonder if they got expelled. imagine if something went wrong. parents would blame the university, religious fanatics would blame marilyn manson and jack thomspon would blame GTA and Bully
- MinorLemming, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Most responsible B.A.S.E first jump courses (FJC) require you to have at least 200 skydives before they will train you. I believe that some of the equipment manufacturers run FJCs and they only require around 150 jumps. The place I am planning to do my FJC at in Spain requires 200.
- robertc1964, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very, very cool and all, but the second guy only had about 13 seconds of airtime.
If I'm gonna jump off of--or out of--something, I want a damn sight more than 13 seconds. I don't care how much adrenaline is included. - mapkinase, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sam peeple have bolls to jump, some people have ... to spell
