- grc252, on 04/30/2009, -3/+43I wouldn't say they're "hilarious" so much as they are great character studies.
- Serphyas, on 04/30/2009, -5/+26It wasn't just the voices that impressed me; it was the variety of her gestures, and the head/eye movements...the body language is flawless and completely in-character.
And her Indian accent is spot on; the shawl was what made the performance, she looks and sounds exactly like my Indian anthropology professor. - adraft, on 04/30/2009, -0/+4BTW, to anyone digging my comment down: Please link to a vid of an entertainer who is a woman or does impersonations or uses props and is actually funny. To date I've seen none.
- opensourcepirat, on 05/01/2009, -0/+3I saw her live at Smith College last year. She really flushes out the characters and has a wider variety with more time. It's a shame she only had 20 minutes.
- FrankieAngels, on 04/30/2009, -0/+3Best English accent by an American - EVER!
- bashnu, on 04/30/2009, -1/+3She could have discussed more about identity, redefining ones self and who we are and used her persona's as short examples.
- mmockett, on 04/30/2009, -0/+2Didn't realise she was American until she lost the accent.
I'm British ^ see - Bwelch, on 04/30/2009, -0/+2Wow that was really entertaining!
She reminds me of Anna Deavere Smith.

- nutzngum, on 05/15/2009, -0/+1i liked this more:

/totally different thing...but not, really - it's all about the voice in both cases. - fiver22, on 05/02/2009, -0/+1This womans performance begs the question: Why is Angelina Jolie such a successful actress?
- whywait, on 04/30/2009, -0/+1the wired for war piece was better. scary, but eye opening, stuff.
- azurathus, on 04/30/2009, -11/+12That was kinda boring. Good job on the voices though.
- hsbsitez, on 05/01/2009, -0/+1Have we gotten so used to Reality TV that we have forgotten that Actors do different characters, as required?
- INTERNETMASTER, on 04/30/2009, -12/+13fantastic performance.
- MrARPA, on 04/30/2009, -0/+1I didn't sit through the whole thing but yes, the British accent (heard at the beginning) was indeed very good - I even called up her Wikipedia page to check her background.
As for mimicking American accents ... people in other English speaking countries are more heavily exposed to US culture than the other way around. Another factor may be that you only hear of the actors who can pull off a US accent, I presume there are many who can't. - MOJIRA, on 04/30/2009, -0/+1Reminds me of Multifacial.
- pineapplepaul, on 04/30/2009, -1/+2Do you even know what the E in TED stands for?
- Popcorned23, on 04/30/2009, -0/+1Dugg for truth
- merdiesel, on 04/30/2009, -0/+1Yeah, I didn't laugh but I definitely watched quite a bit of it... shes a great actress.
- Regulator980, on 04/30/2009, -16/+16This was 20 minutes too long. Honestly the characters were actually pretty well done, but this wasn't "hilarious" (as promised) or even remotely informative. This act really had no place at a TED conference. Buried.
- wharpua, on 04/30/2009, -0/+0I haven't watched this yet, but when I saw what the TED talk focused on I hoped that the woman was the same one who opened an old This American Life from about 10 years ago, called "When You Talk About Music" (http://www.thisamericanlife.org/Radio_Episode.aspx ... The opening segment is 13 minutes long, and by listening you would never realize that it's not an italian loudmouth who's speaking but instead an african-american actress.
Pretty astonishing performance, actually - sounds like the TED talk might not measure up to it. - patburke1980, on 04/30/2009, -2/+2Tell me if I'm wrong my UK brethren, but I thought the British accent was the most impressive. I'm assuming you will all disagree as it's in your nature to hate when Americans try your accent.
Now that I think about it, you and the Australians can all do our American accent so easily. Why is it so hard for us? - zephc, on 04/30/2009, -2/+1:|
- ZombieBenji, on 04/30/2009, -2/+1I get it... you do impersonations loosely based on people from your life. Now leave TED alone.
- Kingj3144, on 04/30/2009, -3/+2I've totally seen this live
it was better on Broadway
but still amazing - GoKings, on 04/30/2009, -14/+12One woman, no hilarious characters
- Sc4r3d, on 04/30/2009, -3/+0That is 20 minutes I will never have back. Booooo!
- TonicTuna, on 04/30/2009, -9/+5TED has sure declined recently.
- adraft, on 04/30/2009, -10/+6A woman comedian doing impersonations. Double Whammy! If only she pulled out some sort of mime or prop skit.
not hilarious, stop digging things just because TED is in the title. - identifiedlogo, on 04/30/2009, -7/+3wow....3:37am, and I just woke up to study for a test on one of her performances.
- davesmiththe3rd, on 04/30/2009, -6/+1Meh... She did the characters great but she must have been hungover when she wrote the material.
- inactive, on 04/30/2009, -5/+0voice and body gestures account for more of our perception of people than i expected. i need to work on mine
- Danik55, on 04/30/2009, -8/+2So what, Dane Cook has range too. From unfunny to inducing suicidal thoughts.
- biAk, on 04/30/2009, -19/+11i immediately regret this decision (of digging)
- johnwes16, on 04/30/2009, -14/+5When did TED stop featuring awesome things?
