- inactive, on 08/19/2009, -21/+1145To the child: I'm so sorry.
Is it just me, or should child obesity be a crime? The "parents" are obviously not very good parents. I'd hate to take a child away from any parent, but dammit, what the hell is going through your brains to let this happen!? - ennuisquared, on 08/19/2009, -12/+1042Damn you ice cream. Come to my mouth. How dare you disobey me.
- WiggyWack, on 08/19/2009, -8/+910My girlfriend teaches first grade and every year, she tells parents to send a "healthy" snack to school with their child for their 9am snack. And every day, kids come in with Doritos, potato chips and fruit roll ups. So when my girlfriend suggests an apple or a carrot or rice cakes or SOMETHING more healthy, what do the parents say? "Oh, he won't eat that." Or "But he likes Doritos." Because in this day and age, a six-year-old dictates what they're going to eat instead of the parents.

Stuff like this pisses me off. Just because you don't seemingly care for your well being, why pass your filthy, gluttonous habits to your children, who don't know any better? - squishee, on 08/19/2009, -2/+396This answers the question "Can a 5-year old have cankles?"

- dotlizard, on 08/19/2009, -6/+352i hate to agree with this, but i do. i'm not a big parenting interventionist, but seriously. rolling that poor girl around while she sucks down empty calories is torture, physically and mentally. she may still has a chance at a normal life, but not for long.

Also, at that age, I'm sure that has an effect on her brain, in any case it sure isn't good for its development.
Being overweight is a pretty big issue, but being overweight at that age is a whole different ball game. Its a much more serious issue and I don't think people truly understand that. - Kaegro, on 08/19/2009, -30/+287………………….._,,-~’’’¯¯¯’’~-,,

- zeabu, on 08/19/2009, -2/+240When 6-year-olds are as smart (or stupid) as the parents, it's logic they discuss with parents as equals.
- JRomanowski, on 08/19/2009, -4/+221I wouldn't go as far to say she's PERFECTLY capable of walking...
Also, anyone else notice neither mother nor child have shoes with laces? For.*****.Sake. - 7m7uf, on 08/19/2009, -16/+227With gay couples that want an opportunity to raise kids.

- GreenMushroom16, on 08/19/2009, -4/+153Don't worry, in a few years she will qualify for a Rascal.
- feelmypimphand, on 08/19/2009, -1/+143That is usually ONE of the excuses the parents will say to divert attention from the fact they don't want to have to take time out of their busy schedule to raise their own kids. I see kids this age walking around with pacifiers too. I wonder if the parents blame the staff at their daycare.
- Samurai77, on 08/19/2009, -1/+139Of all of the questions in the universe we had to answer that one.
- inactive, on 08/19/2009, -2/+140I had the same problem with my cat. When I lived with my parents, my mom would always bring home "treats' of garbage supermarket food and disgusting, discount tinned food. Because "she likes it". True enough, she guzzled it down, and wasn't a big fan of the premium food I bought her.
I recently moved out with her and she only gets the premium food. Outwardly she appears a little healthier already. She didn't want to eat the premium food at first because she liked the cheap stuff. But there was no cheap stuff. She learned to eat the premium food.
Somehow this extraordinarily simple situation strikes me as one that could be applied to children. "He won't eat that?" ***** him, then he can carry it to school, throw it out at recess, and be hungry until he gets home. - deadasdisco, on 08/19/2009, -2/+137we're gonna need the jaws of life.
- Gr00ver, on 08/19/2009, -0/+130"To the child: I'm so sorry."
That's exactly what I was thinking. The kid is too young for it to be her fault. The parents are starting her off on a lifestyle that will be detrimental to her health and well being. - JiGMeister, on 08/19/2009, -3/+112You sir have earned one internet medal
- Fhwqhgads, on 08/19/2009, -2/+110That walrus behind her is setting a perfect example. I'm surprised that thing can walk.
and yes this should qualify as child neglect. - Sisko41, on 08/19/2009, -2/+108I loooooove chocolate... but I can't eat it, because then I'll get fat. But it's soooooooooo good.

- joshuaer, on 08/19/2009, -1/+74I was at the park playing football the other day and i saw this guy talking to his friend he kicked the tire on his car, this 5 year old did the same. then the kid said ***** and the dad and friend laughed, then the dad lit up a smoke and the little kid picked one up off the ground and put it in his mouth. sure the dad took it out and told him not to put things in his mouth that he picks up on the ground but watching that happen was amazing. Kids really do copy every thing the parents do.
- Slackdragon, on 08/19/2009, -1/+74I used to be acquainted with a fat family. The whole family was enormous. They ate the most unhealthy and calorie-laden foods you could imagine ALL the time.
My dad, realizing questioning people about this kind of thing can be a minefield of potential hurt feelings, asked the parents one time if they realized what they were feeding themselves and their kids were more like treats... things to be had with rarity to make it a "treat".
Their honest reply had me gobsmacked... "Oh, but all this stuff is full of empty calories."
As it turned out, they had no actual nutritional knowledge. And what little fragments they had were totally skewed. The felt the term "empty calories" meant harmless or ineffectual. Not "empty" as in devoid of nutrition.
I believe that nobody sincerely WANTS to be fat (unless you're a sumo wrestler). And I believe that EDUCATION is the answer to obesity. Not draconian tactics and legislation that would put children in foster homes, etc. Maybe mandatory nutritional education classes for the whole family. - swordedge, on 08/19/2009, -3/+75It's not the stroller we are commenting on but the fact that that kid weights about twice what she should.
- jggr, on 08/19/2009, -2/+72If your child whines so much you have to give in, you're giving in too much.
Why back in my day... I'd've gotten a slap upside the head, told to shut up or there would be no further fun for me. My parents weren't my friends... They were my parents. And I love them very much for it*.
*I'd have to or they'd hit me. (OK, that was totally tasteless and unnecessary.) - Daxx22, on 08/19/2009, -0/+69Look at the mother. I doubt there was any serious walking going on regardless.
