Of course it seems to be a main thoroughfare and probably runs through some rough areas, but it's not a strictly "rough area" road. As for St. Petersburgh ... well, everything in St. Pete is nice.
        I live in Mobile and it's in a rough part of town. Though Dr King was a great man, I find myself cursing the street named after him on a nightly basis. Though I work on a heavily traveled road that passes MLK, it is all but guaranteed I will get stuck at the red light there every time I pass for at least three minutes. I'm not sure what's up with that. Apparently there are no sensors so it will let one car sit there while the light cycles through every option -- green for MLK, then a 30-second left turn signal coming from the opposite direction, then finally green for me. I'm pretty sure a black dude did that just to piss off white people passing by knowing damn sure there weren't going to be many of them making the turn onto MLK. (... at least I hope that's the case; otherwise it's just another example of the stupidity of city planners and their inability to time traffic lights correctly or install sensors).

We used to work with an animation company right around there (outside of the building: scary. Inside: nerd nirvana). I was always kind of nervous if I was trapped at a stoplight too long. The working ladies would get kind of aggressive and start knocking on the windows and trying to open the passenger side door.

    That area -was- kind of starting to gentrifiy before the real estate slow down. Pixar is located less than a mile or so from that picture.

It's the new yuppie shopping destination, home of Ikea, Pixar and plenty of tech startups. I live in the area and it's not too bad. Closer to Oakland you get after 40th street it starts to get sketchy but I've never felt unsafe.
