- DukeMojo, on 10/10/2007, -24/+183If you pay attention during the show, it's not supposed to be like Survivorman. Instead of trying to actually survive various conditions, the show is a lesson on how to survive conditions you may be put in.
- FurtThePirate, on 10/10/2007, -14/+154He still drank from elephant dung...
- SilkSteel, on 10/10/2007, -23/+126Its pretty much common knowledge that this guy gets help with his shows - hell, he has a camera crew. Survivorman is a cool show in its own respects, but in my opinion, the entertainment value obtained from the show is far less than Man vs. Wild - the ***** ate from a raw zebra. The name's Bear, bitches.
- asspop123, on 10/10/2007, -27/+99This guy is fake! He sleeps in hotels.. not in the wild..
- shadowmoose, on 10/10/2007, -8/+61We already know he faked it, but hes still crazy, jumping in peat bogs and arctic water. Either way I still learn about staying alive.
- Scyth3, on 10/10/2007, -20/+71Survivorman FTW
//even if he makes a lot of mistakes, at least he's not faking it. - DarkEnder, on 10/10/2007, -18/+58That's depressing...this guy seemed like such a badass.
- ravan46, on 10/10/2007, -1/+40Youngest Briton to climb Everest
- louiedog, on 10/10/2007, -9/+43I wouldn't listen to his survival tips. He takes ridiculous unnecessary risks. Watch Survivorman instead.
- kevindoc, on 10/10/2007, -12/+44newsflash.....WWE Wresting isnt real either!!
is this news?? - Bigdee4933, on 10/10/2007, -15/+43He still climbed Mount Everest 1 year after relearning to walk when he shattered his back. Yeah he is such a pussy. Look up his accomplishments. This is a TV show, who cares if isn't real. He has already proven he can survive in the wild, I don't know why everyone gives him *****.
- Casedot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+28IIRC, he was never a Seal, he was in the British Airforce (SAS)... different country there buddy, but same difference
- consoneo, on 10/10/2007, -9/+36If you enjoy the show, who cares if it's fake? The reason you enjoy the show is because of the crazy things he does, and the tips he gives. In every episode's credits it shows the name of the "Survival Expert" so you obviously know that Bear does not know all of the stuff by himself, of course he has help. That's the point of the show... to teach, and entertain... I'd say it does both fairly well.
- Nougat, on 10/10/2007, -11/+37You're sure that was elephant dung, then? Did you see it come out of the elephant?
- kermatron, on 10/10/2007, -0/+24you sure he didn't fake that one as well? this show has lost its credibility.
- binder520, on 10/10/2007, -9/+32Survivorman on the Discovery Channel is real deal. He even carries he own cameras and sets up his own shots.
- SonicBoom1000, on 10/10/2007, -5/+27I kind of expected his show was a fake. The only reason I have watched it is because he has good survival tips, and I enjoy watching him eat stuff (elephant dung, various bugs, raw fish, eyeballs, etc.)
- skyfire1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+22Hey! This guy is a phony. A big, fat phony!
- ryanwarnersteel, on 10/10/2007, -11/+32All the more reason to watch Survivorman. Les Straud is the the ultimate Canadian survival badass!
- scuba7183, on 10/10/2007, -5/+25Survivorman is where its at
- tokyomonster, on 10/10/2007, -3/+22I hate when people use that as an excuse. The jackass guys eat/drink crazy ***** all the time, and no one uses that to herald them as survival experts.
- aroundtheblock, on 11/06/2008, -4/+22I don't know if badass is the right term, but he certainly is hardcore.. for anyone in doubt read this guy's resume and you'll know he's not a pussy
- Darkgh0st, on 10/10/2007, -10/+27Survivorman would cutoff Bear's head and use his skull as cup for water
- tazamore, on 10/10/2007, -3/+19I could watch both Survivorman and Man vs. for hours and I wouldn't care if they flimed it next to a Denny's drive thru. Besides, Bear wore a piss turbin. A piss turbin!
- donkeyshow, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15Man Vs. Room Service.
- agentx216, on 10/10/2007, -2/+17Ya it's almost like he's trying to teach you how to actually survive on your own in different environments...how dare he!!!
- Anteros, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16Actally the idea of the show is that he is dropped in a remote area and you watch as he finds a route out to safety but it is clear he is not actually doing this and they should be honest about this. I will still watch the show it's just pretty disappointing.
- fithanee, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16yea because there so many elephant running about America
- Sp4nk, on 10/10/2007, -3/+16That's right, folks. Skills. Without his SAS training, he never would have the ability to leap across a dangerous precipice instead of around it.
- Tenlow, on 10/10/2007, -6/+19he never said he was a seal. The brits dont have seals yo. Also, survivorman is a much better show. That guy actually does go out by himself. He's even made comments about the safety crew that he could call in an emergency before too, so there are no illusions about what he's doing.
- MadEnvoy, on 10/10/2007, -5/+18But he drank his own pee!
- cnot3, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14It was actually chocolate pudding.
- Niten, on 10/10/2007, -3/+15It only "blows" if you have the attention span of a five year old, and consequently require Man vs. Wild's idiotic overacting to maintain your attention.
- dbz253, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11yea, i much prefer suvivor man. not only does he survive, but he films it all on his own.
- andy3109, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11I agree...and he is always going a ridic. fast pace...something that is never recommended. Conserve energy!
- Scyth3, on 10/10/2007, -8/+19It's more the fact that he changed locations to differing parts of the island -- therefore teaching me that to survive, I need a van full of cameras to drive me over to the other side of the island to eat from an avocado tree rather then figuring out an edible resource in the originating area. If he stuck with the original area, then I'd keep quiet on the topic.
- vanguardanon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10No way. The skull has too many holes. I think he'd make a leather cup out of his skin. :-)
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Wow, same video, longer clip.
- jivemasta, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Les Stroud is in actual danger, if he got attacked by a bear, he would be done because he really is alone out there. Now if he fell and broke a leg, I'm sure he has a phone and gps beacon so he can call for help and they can find him.
- plhearn, on 10/10/2007, -14/+23Man Vs. Wild? More like Man and Production Assistants and Camera Crew Vs. Hotel Room.
- Niten, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9It's not boring, it just refrains from all the painful overacting we're used to seeing in Man vs. Wild and similar shows.
- lunchmeat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9All this seems to say about him is that he enjoys drinking urine and water from elephant *****...clearly he has other options.
- Sifl, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9It's TV.
- kermatron, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9this guy has the worst survivor tips imaginable. he takes extreme risks that no other survivor expert would ever take.
ONE EXAMPLE: making a flotation device to get down river faster or making a "raft" to get down river faster? not worth injuring yourself even more. not to mention risk of hypothermia. - sol2006, on 10/10/2007, -14/+22Fake or not, I think it's the principle of what he's trying to do - keep yourself alive in horrid conditions
- louiedog, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7That's because he's trying not to die. He isn't surrounded by half a dozen people with film equipment and safety gear who will pull him out of a river he didn't need to jump into.
- eN1X, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8I am crushed
I'll still watch the show because its damn entertaining, but it will never be the same to me again. - orxor, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Bear is not his real name. It's Teddy (it's like his middle name or something), that's where they got the name Bear from. He said that on a TV show, forgot which one.
- davidrools, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8This definitely takes away from his show, but I'll still watch. There's certainly some cool tips you can learn (like how to make fire, find your bearings, etc.). It might be a really boring show if it was really continuous in time and location. Still, it's kind of lame that they have to pretend to be surviving a lot of the time.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acYExF4RRqE
That one is bad, though, if someone died trying to use his advice without a life jacket hidden under his sweatshirt.
Maybe now the show will be MORE fun to watch while trying to pick out his cheats :) - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8And so by your standards, Bear Grylls is a douchebag pussy who makes all other Special Forces guys look bad since he sleeps in hotels and gets waaay too much help in the show. What makes this even worse is the fact that the show is advertised as if it's all real. I wouldn't have a problem with his fakery if the show had a big warning at the beginning saying that a lot of the shots are staged and carefully edited to not show nearby civilization and crew.
The Survivor man guy at least carries his own cameras, sets up his own shots and is in actual danger (since he's actually alone), unlike Mr. Special Forces. -
