- Bukowsky, on 12/13/2007, -0/+29seriously... because I probably have committed a few phone offenses in my day too.
- hulez, on 12/13/2007, -1/+9your under arrest. wait by your computer so i can handcuff you
- DangerMouse9, on 12/13/2007, -0/+34That sounds like a gay nerd porno plot to me.
- hulez, on 12/13/2007, -1/+9your under arrest. wait by your computer so i can handcuff you
- Lionhart, on 12/13/2007, -15/+2New Zealand, where you can get arrested for dirty text messages.
- TotalCarb, on 12/13/2007, -0/+13I doubt it was the "dirty" nature of the text, but the fact that it led him to unknowingly trespass.
- Mattyandco, on 12/13/2007, -0/+14No, where you can be arrested for sending a text message tricking a man into climbing into someones house naked, which could be viewed badly by the occupants of that house, resulting in jail and/or getting shot/tased/beaten/laid/all the above.
- CommentPoster, on 12/13/2007, -0/+14All the above? That would be one crazy night.
- DangerMouse9, on 12/13/2007, -0/+3You've obviously never hung out with Matty on a Saturday night.
- themastersb, on 12/13/2007, -4/+4I hope I get as lucky as the guy in this article... except get the right house....
- hulez, on 12/13/2007, -18/+2I HOPE U ***** GET ARRESTED FOR MISUSING THE DIGG COMMENT SYSTEM.... OH *****, GOTTA RUNNNNN!!!!! COPS!!!
- ArchangelZLT, on 12/13/2007, -1/+2Maniac?
- bluesdealer, on 12/13/2007, -2/+5Seriously, there are phone use laws? Isn't that speech?
Edit: Nevermind, I just rtfa and it's New Zealand. Still, that's incredibly lame. - merreborn, on 12/13/2007, -1/+14If you RTFA, she *intentionally* sent him to the wrong house. She probably deserves the charges. Not so sure about him.
- Bukowsky, on 12/13/2007, -0/+29seriously... because I probably have committed a few phone offenses in my day too.
- IvanB, on 12/13/2007, -0/+122Do you realize your thumbnail has nothing to do with the story?
- mgarde, on 12/13/2007, -1/+41I don't think it has anything to do with anything
- Rocksea24, on 12/13/2007, -1/+4Are those the monks from Monty Python's Holy Grail?
- DirtySnachez, on 12/13/2007, -7/+7IvanB : You submit new ***** all the time, haven't you noticed the process is very ***** up right now. It autopicks a image randomly off the page apparently.
- vx69, on 12/13/2007, -3/+12No it doesn't, it gives you a choice.
- r00tus3r, on 12/13/2007, -1/+12"The woman, who sent the tempting but deliberately wayward message, was also tracked down and charged for misusing a phone."
See why she got arrested now? The whole thing was basically her fault. - Manuelmty, on 12/13/2007, -3/+1http://digg.com/odd_stuff/Sense_This_picture_makes ...
- mgarde, on 12/13/2007, -1/+41I don't think it has anything to do with anything
- fusuke31, on 12/13/2007, -0/+14I never realized that such a thing as "Good behaviour bonds" existed.
- mindsnare, on 12/13/2007, -0/+5They have them in Australia too, usually for first time offenders for minor crimes.
- Mattyandco, on 12/13/2007, -1/+8It's called diversion, some first offenders can get away without conviction if the crime is small and without real consequences, so long as they do not commit any other crime for a given period. It helps avoid serious repercussions against other wise good people who ***** up once.
- rdaly92, on 12/13/2007, -1/+20Lol the New Zealand version of To catch a predator
- rdaly92, on 12/13/2007, -0/+25He got rolled
- tyywebb, on 12/13/2007, -4/+11So did this guy: http://youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0

- week, on 12/13/2007, -1/+14nice try
- tyywebb, on 12/13/2007, -4/+11So did this guy: http://youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0
- dweeb79, on 12/13/2007, -3/+174"Both the man and the woman escaped prosecution and were cautioned and put on good behavior bonds."
Here in the US the man would be thrown in jail and immediately added to sex offenders list. The woman would get a firm warning and possibly probation while the mans life would be completely destroyed. New Zealand handled an awkward situation perfectly.- TotalCarb, on 12/13/2007, -2/+100No kidding. What a difference an ocean makes. This guy gets to go on with his life, as he should. Had he been in America, his life would be over.
An interesting note; the news from NZ referred to the 17yo as a woman whereas in the American press she would have been referred to as a girl, much like the poster did in the title. One way makes him sound like a potential child rapist, the other just makes him sound like any other normal horny male.- galore, on 12/13/2007, -1/+13Exactly.
Another example how stupid the zero-tolerance BS in the USA is. - merreborn, on 12/13/2007, -0/+10Age of consent is 16 in NZ. She is legally a woman.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ages_of_consent_in_Au ...- had3l, on 12/13/2007, -1/+7So? It's 16 in most of the US too.
- killakan, on 12/13/2007, -0/+2In some states it is even lower, depending on who is involved.
- killakan, on 12/13/2007, -0/+3No, she would be a teen-ager.
- galore, on 12/13/2007, -1/+13Exactly.
- Twoodge, on 12/13/2007, -7/+1Lal, sounds like half-assed innuendo.
- cwshea, on 12/13/2007, -1/+30They would have been tazered first.
- Hermiod, on 12/13/2007, -1/+11No, he would. The girl would have done all the talk shows and been praised for surviving through all the mental distress.
- mustang460, on 12/13/2007, -5/+1no its america, both would have gotten tazered
- Hermiod, on 12/13/2007, -1/+11No, he would. The girl would have done all the talk shows and been praised for surviving through all the mental distress.
- Matsky, on 12/13/2007, -0/+27The 17 year old is more the sex offender than anyone, but you are right.
- TotalCarb, on 12/13/2007, -2/+100No kidding. What a difference an ocean makes. This guy gets to go on with his life, as he should. Had he been in America, his life would be over.
- ChromaVita, on 12/13/2007, -1/+28Dugg for "vexed, not sexed"
- aduzik, on 12/13/2007, -0/+1Yes, the original headline was far better. They should have stuck with "New Zealand man vexed not sexed by text message"
- haentz, on 12/13/2007, -8/+4Dumb and dumber.
- TonyTheTerrible, on 12/13/2007, -12/+2"escaped prosecution and were cautioned and put on good behavior bonds."
What. The. *****.- pardonmedoug, on 12/13/2007, -1/+4the story's a little weird but I don't see what the problem with this part could be.
- igyigyigy, on 12/13/2007, -0/+3I'm guessing it's like a regular bail bond, etc.
A binding agreement to be a good boy, or we'll have to start thinking about that thing you did and didn't prosecute you for. - Matsky, on 12/13/2007, -1/+8In New Zealand and Australia we're not so big on throwing people into jail for anything as our American friends are. This might be what's confusing you.
- dansmeek, on 12/13/2007, -2/+13err.... why the thumbnail?
- Matsky, on 12/13/2007, -4/+1What thumbnail? Am I missing something?
- darnit, on 12/13/2007, -9/+13...why don't you have a seat right over there...
- hulez, on 12/13/2007, -1/+4huff huff, what did i miss? O.O
- robberry, on 12/13/2007, -0/+2How does he *do* that?
- jakejeffries, on 12/13/2007, -0/+1Now that was funny!
- Procure, on 12/13/2007, -0/+3"I was just coming over to hang out... How old? errr.... 18 I think."
- trayne20, on 12/13/2007, -11/+0Old urban legend just with a different twist to meet the times.
- PhireN, on 12/13/2007, -2/+2dugg down cause its true, was in my national newspaper yesterday.
- dunk71, on 12/13/2007, -0/+2Ha! It's in the nationals so it's true! Wow... They got you good.
- PhireN, on 12/13/2007, -2/+2dugg down cause its true, was in my national newspaper yesterday.
- mal1964, on 12/13/2007, -9/+2When you can master texting with one hand you wont need to go there, You will be able to masturbate with the other hand.
- Dylson, on 12/13/2007, -1/+14Fail
- ninja0, on 12/13/2007, -0/+2epic failure.
- Rawful, on 12/13/2007, -11/+0Haha I like how it says "The 17-year-old woman"
Also, is it not illegal over there for a 31 year old man and a 17 year old "woman" o.o?
Weird, maybe I'm just incorrectly informed when I read this- detonate, on 12/13/2007, -1/+1516 is the legal age of consent here in NZ.
- TotalCarb, on 12/13/2007, -2/+3As it is in much of the United States.
- Matsky, on 12/13/2007, -2/+3It's not illegal in America either is it? I thought the legal consent age was 16, unless they are under your duty of care. Well I think that's how it works anyway. You may need to elaborate on what you mean by "o.o".
- mrjit, on 12/13/2007, -0/+4o.o is a stupid anime emoticon used by annoying 13 year olds. ^_^. Hence why he was buried. And yes, in most states a 31 year old with a 16 year old is illegal. I'm in FL, and the maximum age that can be with a 16 year old is 24, and we're one of the more liberal states in that regard.
- mindsnare, on 12/13/2007, -2/+4I think it might be 16 is the age of consent in NZ
- dawglse, on 12/13/2007, -1/+9In America it will depend on the state.
Here in Texas it is 17.
Very few are 16.
Most are 18.
Google "Age of Consent". =)- oneoverzero, on 12/13/2007, -1/+2Actually, most are 16. I googled "Age of Consent" http://www.coolnurse.com/consent.htm
- rebotfc, on 12/13/2007, -1/+10America the only country where you can own a gun before you can have sex.
- Lixnig, on 12/13/2007, -4/+1This is not actually accurate for a variety of reasons, but the big one is that these laws don't prevent minors from having sex with other minors. Not in most states, anyway.
- Durrok, on 12/13/2007, -0/+3I think there is a lot of gray area there. Remember the news story not that long ago about the two kids who both got tried for raping each other because they were underage?
- PopcornDave, on 12/13/2007, -0/+2Yeah, but when was the last time someone got pregnant shooting a gun?
- Lixnig, on 12/13/2007, -4/+1This is not actually accurate for a variety of reasons, but the big one is that these laws don't prevent minors from having sex with other minors. Not in most states, anyway.
- detonate, on 12/13/2007, -1/+1516 is the legal age of consent here in NZ.
- kevma, on 12/13/2007, -3/+4Damn it. I used to be proud whenever anything New Zealand made the front page of Digg. Now I'm not so sure.
- XxATAROTHxX, on 12/13/2007, -0/+1The law of New Zealand handled it way better than the U.S would have.
- Matsky, on 12/13/2007, -0/+15Imagine if a man had somehow convinced a woman to do the same. Yes, he would be a legend among men, but he also would have been facing more serious charges I'm sure.
- TotalCarb, on 12/13/2007, -1/+19Dear diary, a naked 17yo chick just climbed through my window. She must have the wron...wait...why the fugg am I still writing?
- osxkater, on 12/13/2007, -1/+2Exactly !!!
- FiringPin, on 12/13/2007, -1/+6I guess this means "no" for him to have sex with her?
- mishsquish, on 12/13/2007, -1/+1It would mean "She's playing hard to get, keep trying!" to most.
- FiringPin, on 12/13/2007, -0/+2You're so right! He should leave notes on her car whenever she parks it. Then she'll know how much he loves her! :D
- mishsquish, on 12/13/2007, -1/+1It would mean "She's playing hard to get, keep trying!" to most.
- hulez, on 12/13/2007, -13/+3Pigs, all cops are pigs. if there is such thing as phone misuse, then the only way not to misuse a phone is to be a robot.
- a3ph, on 12/13/2007, -2/+13If this was in America, the guy would have been tasered by the cops for being naked, and then Chris Hansen-ed for trying to do a pair of underaged girls.
- calvmari, on 12/13/2007, -0/+9Having Chris Hanson tase him in the nuts would create the perfect trifecta.
- Tyrghast, on 12/13/2007, -4/+1id digg it
- osxkater, on 12/13/2007, -1/+2You mean digg her.
- floatingpoints, on 12/13/2007, -7/+3Erm, since when does text messaging someone to get naked and come over, even if you give them the wrong address, constitute something remotely illegal?
- Asay, on 12/13/2007, -1/+2Ya really, Immoral maybe. The person who called the police sounds like a prude but on the other hand, you can never be to cautious if there is a 31 year old naked man stand at you door.
- Orion682, on 12/13/2007, -0/+2She did it on purpose as a prank. RTFA. It's New Zealand, not the US. Different laws.
- bbb8214, on 12/13/2007, -3/+5The real question is, did she intend to send him to the wrong house or was it texting typo? That's kind of an important detail if you ask me. Also, did she know the guy, or did she just randomly text someone to see if she could get them in trouble? What a crappy article.
- hipposaurus, on 12/13/2007, -0/+9"The woman, who sent the tempting but deliberately wayward message, was also tracked down and charged for misusing a phone."
- dxgg, on 02/05/2008, -0/+7My brain read it as "Man Gets Arrested for Text Messaging Girl - Both Get Naked"
- jmaxwell, on 12/13/2007, -1/+4At the prospect of a menage a trois with jailbaits, who wouldn't have gotten naked immediately on receiving the text message? But why is a 17 year old girl text messaging a 31 year old guy anyways? Something's suspect.
- Kelex, on 12/13/2007, -2/+2She must be hideous to be texting someone that much older than her lol
- Orion682, on 12/13/2007, -0/+3She's legal in NZ, where the age of consent is 16. Hell, she'd be legal in most of the US for that matter.
- Andres84, on 12/13/2007, -3/+8akwarrrd
- eyesmell, on 12/13/2007, -5/+2akwarrrrrrrd!
- blackmage439, on 12/13/2007, -0/+2I agree that this needs more evidence (unfortunately, Reuters is known for posting incomplete stories). However, the whole idea is still funny.
- dunk71, on 12/13/2007, -0/+2Reuters is known for making ***** up!
- elegantjihad, on 12/13/2007, -6/+1I don't think a lot you guys understand what was going on here, a 17 year old girl and her friend pranked a 31 year old pedo into going to the wrong house on purpose. They should be applauded and the man face more serious charges.
- blargmanus, on 12/13/2007, -0/+4He's not a Pedo if she's of legal consenting ago. Age Of Consent is 16.
- rupaw, on 12/13/2007, -1/+3Only from an American..
- elegantjihad, on 12/13/2007, -3/+1Woah, someone's a bit xenophobic
- Mattyandco, on 12/13/2007, -0/+1You know its possible that she lied about her age along with the address and quality of time he would have had in the message sent to the guy (the article here and in me local paper didn't go into that much detail).
- ussoldier, on 12/13/2007, -0/+2Oh god, a fun new use for the nations dwindling supply of payphones... !
- kettlechips, on 12/13/2007, -2/+1Everybody who uses text messaging should be arrested.
- SaraSu, on 12/13/2007, -0/+1I just think it's funny.
