I find it extremely hard to believe the wife had no idea about this place. Don't you explore every nook and cranny of your house? She never thought to ask, "what's back there?" How about grocery bills, utility bills, she never heard running water when nobody was using it? I also find it incomprehensible that the daughter never tried to kill/harm the man who was incestuously raping her and forcing her to have his children.
