- PhonicUK, on 06/28/2008, -1/+53I think he did the right thing. He offers the kid encouragement "Come here little buddy" and cuddles him when when he eventually manages to get there.
To me it says "Yes people will help and support you but you've got to make the effort to get there instead of expecting people to rush to you all the time"
Kid wasn't hurt in any significant way, he just got a bit of mud on his face and maybe a grazed knee, nothing that anyone needs to get in hysterics over.
Sayeth one of the few people on here that has a psychology qualification. - Mswldflwr, on 06/28/2008, -2/+35Dad's gonna be in trouble when Mom sees the video.
- wrathchilde, on 06/28/2008, -1/+29All non-dads please feel free to expose your inexperience by criticizing this guy. *Moms are exempt because they can't help themselves.
What is the difference between a good mom and a good dad?
A good Mom pulls the kid's hand away from the hot stove every time.
A good Dad pulls it away once, and lets him learn the second time. - Diderotten, on 06/28/2008, -0/+24Everyone's face-planted one time or another in their life. If the kid learns from this experience, he can still live a normal life. If not, he can be a skater.
- cr250guy, on 06/28/2008, -0/+20Its better than cooping up the kid and never letting him learn from his mistakes, ***** the kid only got a little dirt on his face.
- mehrdotcom, on 06/27/2008, -4/+22That guy acts like a reporter instead of a supporter!
- Mononuclear, on 06/28/2008, -1/+18Best parenting ever. The kid was not hurt. Little kids fall down all the time. They even have softer more flexible bones that don't easily break for this very reason. A little kid can fall down and not get hurt while an adult falling the same way would break an arm etc.
Kids need to fall down and get hurt. It is part of life. If you shelter your kids and never allow them to do anything that may hurt them then they will grow up sheltered and not ready for the real world. Some places are actually making playgrounds for kids where they can get hurt because so many playgrounds are now designed so that it is impossible to get injured in any way. Many experts say that getting hurt, falling down, etc are key in growth and help kids understand how the world works (IE gravity).
Most the time when a kid falls down they are not really hurt. You ever see a kid that takes a nasty spill and then looks up at you for your reaction? If you start to freak out the kid starts crying. If you don't make it a big deal then the kid just brushes it off and keeps playing.
Worst parenting ever is picking up the kid and babying him every time he falls down. Worst parenting ever is not letting your kid play with anything where they might fall down and scrape a knee.
While I can't judge his parenting from one short video clip, there is nothing wrong in what he did here. - louiebaur, on 06/27/2008, -1/+12I agree that kid has mad skills!
- AmyVernon, on 06/27/2008, -1/+10poor little guy! of course, my guys would immediately try to duplicate this effort...
- inactive, on 06/28/2008, -1/+10"Yeah I got in on film too hahaha"
Priceless. Dad of year, honestly! That guy's gonna make an excellent father.
To everyone saying "omg how cruel" ***** you, seriously. Kid just fell over, nothing to worry about. - Thrilltone, on 06/28/2008, -2/+9I wonder how many takes it took before Dad finally got his kid to cry?
- haentz, on 06/28/2008, -1/+8Sounds very reasonable to me, as a non-dad. But what about putting your little one's video on the internets?
- feanix, on 06/28/2008, -1/+7His dad knows it's no big deal. Kid's fine. He's just not going to grow up to be a ***** pussy.
- AmyVernon, on 06/27/2008, -3/+8it's true! my little guys would fall flat on their faces, cry for a minute or two and then immediately set out to do it again, on purpose. though rafael would hate the dirt. markus isn't as picky

- AlanLivingston, on 06/28/2008, -0/+4Sound advice, proper spelling, grammar and capitalization. Hell, this post is even in paragraphs!
What are you doing on Digg? - xeno439, on 06/28/2008, -3/+7Agree 100%. As a teacher I see spoiled kids on a daily basis. I am not sure that the father in this video isn't a little bit of a prick though for laughing at his kid's pain.
- feanix, on 06/28/2008, -0/+4wait, what? how does digging it help the kid? what?
- xerofilter, on 06/28/2008, -4/+8Parent of the year candidate.
- DaHuuuuuudge, on 06/28/2008, -0/+3Zimbu, I totally disagree.
- inactive, on 06/28/2008, -0/+3That's the exact opposite of a kid turning Emo.
- ZimbuTheMonkey, on 06/28/2008, -0/+3Replying is fun.
- solidcube, on 06/28/2008, -4/+7When is Digg going to add a new category for "LOL CHILDREN IN PAIN?" Seems like there have been a lot of these lately.
And wow, I don't want a child. - Mononuclear, on 06/28/2008, -0/+3If you showed a baby video of yourself falling on your face most women would think it was adorable and you would get even more ladies. Chicks dig funny baby pictures and videos. He will be able to use this video to get a lot more action than you will ever see.
- duke, on 06/28/2008, -0/+3Sounds like Jake's never had kids.
n00b!!! - DteK, on 06/28/2008, -0/+3its all part of a young boys growing experience. Dont be sad for him, There will be much more painful experiences in his life.
- aserer511, on 06/28/2008, -0/+3Captain Jean Luc Picard, Jr.
- Peck3277, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2"And wow, I don't want a child."
If they provide comedy like that I want 2!!! - furto, on 06/28/2008, -1/+3Depends if he puts the money made from the video into an account for the little guy to use later on!
- inactive, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2After about the umpteenth billion time you come to realize that children are amazingly resilient. And since they haven't developed their verbal skills, crying is one of their primary forms of communication. It means
-I'm hungry
-I'm hurt
-I'm surprised
-I'm cranky
-I shat myself - Disease, on 06/28/2008, -1/+3You gotta admit it was funny though.
- bluenash, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2"Rough day". Get used to it kid. This is a metaphor for life.
- dnields, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2I think it's pathetic that people actually think this kid was really hurt.
You don't rush to coddle a child every time he opens his mouth and turns on the waterworks. Those are crocodile tears... trust me. But then again, you probably don't have kids so you wouldn't know the difference.
If that same thing happened and dad wasn't watching, the kid would have bounced right back up and probably have done it again. - Bladwor, on 06/28/2008, -0/+3Can I? Yes.
Will I? Not a chance. - inactive, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2That is horrible!
- brjndr, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2You named one of your kids after a ninja turtle!!
Does he like pizza? - ShadowFoxxx, on 06/28/2008, -0/+1Aww, poor little guy! No-one likes dirt in their face.
- BSeffrood, on 06/28/2008, -0/+1***** website i've seen in a while
- solidcube, on 06/28/2008, -0/+1It's not so much the faceplanting, it's more the whole "WAAAAHHHH" vibe.
- Peck3277, on 06/28/2008, -1/+2So what if its on the internet? He's what 2? Do you honestly think he is going to care. I'm sure his mother is out showing pictures of him in the bath to as many people as possible!
- philadelphia, on 06/27/2008, -1/+2Ouch.
- Lezlee798, on 06/28/2008, -1/+2I couldn't recognize someone that's 20+ old from a toddler video.
- feanix, on 06/28/2008, -0/+1Reminds me of Swamp Dragons from Disccworld who basically exploded when experiencing fear, anger, sadness, hunger, thirst, being over-sated, excitement, arousal, repulsion, surprise and boredom.
- mpbnice, on 06/27/2008, -4/+5Amy, that's mean!
- feanix, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1it was meant to be sarcastic... -_-
- feanix, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1it was meant to be sarcastic... -_-
- Millsee, on 06/28/2008, -0/+1It did look a bit sore though.... :-/
- ZimbuTheMonkey, on 06/28/2008, -0/+1He posted it because it was funny, moron. If every parent ran to their kids screaming in panic ready to breastfeed whenever they took a fall like you propose, the world would have a lot more whiny dependent malcontents. Exclamation marks don't help your weak limp-wristed arguments.
- Mononuclear, on 06/29/2008, -0/+1I ask myself that question every day.
- inactive, on 06/28/2008, -0/+1Me too. :D
