- radialturkey, on 07/17/2009, -0/+26It's already illegal to have an abortion that late. 39 weeks is a pregnancy, so by week 26, it's already the third trimester, and it's illegal to abort.
- benroy, on 07/17/2009, -1/+27Sounds to me like 30-week-old fetus' qualify to run for congress.
- Misinformant, on 07/17/2009, -1/+26What is there to remember?
'journal entry, day 203: still in here, also bored' - Hellahulla, on 07/17/2009, -1/+13BTW. Just to clarify. this isn't to be used as fodder for pro-/anti-choice arguments, At 30 weeks the foetus is already protected as a viable, able to survive, potential baby. Just to clear that up so as to HOPEFULLY! reduce the number of flames and right wing calls of MURDER and left wing calls of OPPRESSOR.
Thanks.
Bye. - Attic, on 07/17/2009, -2/+13That's very cool! My sister in law is one of the scientists to perform this research , and actually wrote a thesis and book on the subject. She worked for the University of Maastricht and conducted a significant part of this research. Never thought it would reach mainstream media in America! Cool!
- Disgod, on 07/17/2009, -8/+17Yeah... before the "pro-lifers" start bitching realize that at the point that they're talking about abortion is already illegal except in extreme cases. The fetus is already protected.
- cheerfulcynic, on 07/17/2009, -2/+11what kind/how permanent of sterilization though - can i keep my uterus for later use?
is the father volunteering for sterilization as well?
can we bank some eggs away for a later offspring if we/i/he so chooses?
what about people that can't afford to refrigerate bits of themselves for a good 50 years?
lets all get some affordable accessible (to everyone in the world) birth control and we'll see how much abortion rates go down before we go cutting off everyones options (surgically). - ronh, on 07/17/2009, -0/+8"It seems the domestic overseers are plotting against me, Their plans I'm still haunted by the memories of how I was incarcerated in that amniotic Attica.
As I recall, it was every potential man for himself. I alone had reached the target objective, thanks to the intrepidity. I developed at testicular boot camp. But it was a trap!
I was imprisoned in that uterine gulag for nine grueling months. "
Day 171. I've sprouted another finger, counting the one from yesterday. I'm up to 11.
As the months of solitude passed, I began to go insane. It seemed my prison cell was getting smaller and smaller. I was quite sure that soon I would be dead.
But then, a miracle! There was a light at the end of the tunnel. I rushed to freedom, but suddenly I was ambushed by a mysterious man in white!
The man in white. Of course.
He must be the hired professional of whom they spoke. He failed to thwart my escape into the outside world. And now, one year hence, he's returning to rectify his mistake and put me back in the womb!"

- popzero, on 07/17/2009, -1/+7Funny... I try not to be surprised by fetuses.

- DaDrake, on 07/17/2009, -1/+6Memory =/= knowledge
- smacksaw, on 07/17/2009, -0/+5I just got this visual of a total hysterectomy, baby and all. Like a "Babyectomy Combo Supreme" or something.
"Doctor, I need an abortion. I'm 30 weeks."
"Ok, but we have to do the works. You're getting the Extra Value Combo."
"What?"
"Don't worry. We'll fill the cavity with lottery tickets." - Attic, on 07/17/2009, -1/+6Just curious: where did the link to abortion surface from?
The research was done on foetusses in utero, as in : babies that are still inside mommy's belly. All baby's were later delivered the normal way, and are absolutely fine and healthy.
In no way, shape or form was abortion (or any link to it) a factor here.
So please, don't use this research as something that either endorses or disaproves abortion, because it has nothing to do with it. - InfiniteNothing, on 07/17/2009, -3/+8I wonder how that compares to, say, a chicken's memory.
- Myztry, on 07/17/2009, -1/+6Habituation - I lived about 20 metres from a train track and visitors would say, "That's so loud. How do you handle all that noise."
And I'd say, "What noise? - The birds outside? ... Oh, THAT noise. Don't even notice it anymore." - skztr, on 07/17/2009, -2/+6so does everything that's delicious, what's your point?
- cheerfulcynic, on 07/17/2009, -0/+4@3The3Dude3
how far do you have to travel, discreetly, to a planned parenthood clinic? have you ever had to fight through any protesters at the 35' line (or whatever it is) beyond which they are allowed to harass you?
and i mean culturally acceptable for everyone to have access to birth control. not just this country, and not just certain classes of people, determined by money. - lwoodnj, on 07/17/2009, -6/+10You're frightening.
- vurdillac, on 07/17/2009, -0/+4At 36 weeks, the fetus can roll its eyes at you while texting.
- Khast, on 07/17/2009, -22/+26Not really pro-life or pro-choice here....but at 30 weeks... I actually think that should be considered as life right there.
Although, I personally only think Abortion should be allowed under 3 circumstances.....
1) Mother's life is in danger
2) cases of rape
3) if mother agrees to sterilization after abortion. (Hey, you wanted to have sex, the baby was the consequence...you want an abortion...never being able to have a baby again should be the consequence.) - DaDrake, on 07/17/2009, -1/+5Klaky I take issue with your last statement.
The reason why many people don't like abortion is because it is an act removing all personal responsibility for one's action. But in rape, the women has no personal responsibility... she obviously didn't choose to have sex and thus it would be unfair to hold her responsible for that act.
And what is the last statement suppose to mean? If you haven't noticed, a lot of things are illegal and people still do it. - onlysoma, on 07/17/2009, -2/+6In what capacity do they remember? Adults tend to remember things as we express them in words. How do they evaluate the situation, remember it and catalog something that happened two weeks ago without words or learned shapes or colors or anything to express those memories?
Even sea slugs respond to stimuli with muscle memory, and they don't even have brains, at all. - bkf2000, on 07/17/2009, -2/+5Why is the baby/fetus in case 2) and 3) a less valid being at 30 weeks?
- s0nicfreak, on 07/17/2009, -1/+4Babies can not still be in the womb. Those are called fetuses.
- Thundercat1971, on 07/17/2009, -0/+3unless Maury tells you that you are the father.
- bobcat7407, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2Why 30 days? Why not 29 or 31? Is it murder after 30 days but not after 29?
- counterplex, on 07/18/2009, -0/+230 days is an arbitrary limit but it's enough to allow someone who is interested in making that decision to make it. If they haven't made that decision in 30 days, chances are whatever factors are making them indecisive weigh heavier than their need to get an abortion. Therefore, after 30 days (again, an arbitrary limit), if they haven't made a decision I make it for them by letting their doubts reign supreme.
- Thundercat1971, on 07/17/2009, -2/+4How else would they get used to getting poked in the head by horny fathers-to-be?
- roomaustin, on 07/17/2009, -1/+3I like the way you think.
- levitron, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2I call you on your stereotype- I have a friend who thinks it's just disgusting to have sex with this pregnant wife, especially in her last trimester. My wife has always felt her randiest when pregnant- it's when we did our most experimentation with positions, as the laziest ones are no longer practical...
- geezor, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1I initially kept getting surprised, but I've since habituated.
- askantik, on 07/17/2009, -1/+2This is not science. There is no way to test how long a ***** fetus' memory span is. Bah.
- animalwheeler, on 07/17/2009, -2/+3@DorXtar:
Soooo, there is some sort of 'instant on' for knowledge when the fetus hits the open air??
So, does that mean a premature born baby, is smarter than the same age baby still in the womb?
And you call the "right-wing"ers crazy. wow. - bobcat7407, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1@Hellahulla
When exactly does a fetus become a child then? No whining, just a simple question. - smacksaw, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1So you're used to it when they grab onto your...uhh...nevermind.
- Klaky, on 07/17/2009, -1/+2I believe his point was he believes they should be allowed to abort the baby in those circumstances prior to 30 weeks not past.
- counterplex, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1Keep in mind that most people who are against abortion believe life begins at conception. Typically even with the morning after pill the actual fertilization (i.e. conception) has happened by the time you take it thus making it murder in their eyes.
For what it's worth, I believe rape victims should have the option to get an abortion as long as it's within a reasonable time e.g. 30 days of the incident. Any later and let her carry it through and then give the baby up for adoption. Of course I realize kids waiting to be adopted don't exactly have it easy either but them's the choices. - smacksaw, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1You know, you're almost treading into this:
http://www.snopes.com/horrors/cannibal/fetus.asp - lostlyrics, on 07/18/2009, -0/+1that's a clumsy attempt at discrediting the opposite, clown.
- you are a wingnut dropped as mole. period. really wonder
still what gave the white undercover agent away in harlem ? - bobcat7407, on 07/19/2009, -0/+1@counterplex
So your limit is based on allowing enough time to make a decision, not when life starts? I don't want to misrepresent what you're saying so I'm just trying to clarify. I can't really argue against something that you admit is arbitrary, but I will ask, when do you think life begins? - smemily, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1Teller? Of Penn & Teller?
- veriix, on 07/17/2009, -4/+5Yeah, why don't we make it if your child’s IQ is predicted to be below 85 you can kil...oops I mean abort, abort them too. I mean think of all parent teacher conferences you won't have to attend, that's a lot of saved time!
- Klaky, on 07/19/2009, -0/+1My last statement was meant to be sarcastic, sorry if it didn't come across that way.
Anyway, I agree a rape victim should not have to birth the child that may have been conceived through said rape. And I said that. But they have a damn thing to make sure they don't get pregnant. A pill, that can be taken after being raped, that prevents pregnancy from occurring. It is the rape victims fault for not taking the damn medicine that would make it impossible to become pregnant.
But I guess not all rape victims would be thinking straight after such a horrific experience, but (and don't take this the wrong way) rape victims choose to have the chance to become pregnant. If you report the rape, go to police, doctors, where ever you need to go to make sure the bastard goes to jail and you get the proper medical treatment you deserve, they can also give you a pill making it impossible for the egg to take.
Maybe I didn't make my statement above clear, and I tried it again here. No where did I say a rape victim had to keep the baby, but it doesn't need to be aborted because it DOESN'T NEED TO GET TO THAT POINT. - lostlyrics, on 07/19/2009, -0/+1seems you needed a new acct lately to be
capable still of repeating old lies, freshling. - DorXtar, on 07/29/2009, -0/+1Yeah, but it fooled the other wingnuts. XD
- momzilla54, on 07/17/2009, -1/+2Yeah, Khast, I'd say it's life. My 30 week fetus is 18 now, and he has been most definitely alive the whole time.
- lostlyrics, on 07/18/2009, -0/+1they offer removable vas-deferens locks meanwhile ...
