- mntalkase, on 10/12/2007, -6/+23I hate to admit it... but Trump was right on the mark.
I didn't too much agree with his plans to get out... still worth a look, though. - Gl4di4tor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Disappointing that he didn't say "you're fired" to bush in his interview.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7He has some moments in the video where he shines, and others where he sounds like a moron..
- EasY_TargeT, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Finally i can sleep at night knowing that trump has declared bush a disater
- Ystig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The most crucial point for me was his pointing out the vast chasm between the state of world opinion regarding the United States following 9/11 and the state of world opinion on the United States subsequently. His reference to the state of world opinion following 9/11 as an "opportunity" may seem, well, coldly opportunistic, but he's dead on.
Thinking back, I'm inclined to recall, in the days following 9/11, in 2001, mainstream Canadian newspapers publishing editorials with titles like "America: The Good Neighbour" and making strong endorsements in favour of support for and collaboration with the United States in general, touting its role, for example, in post-WWII reconstruction. Suddenly, people were talking about American foreign policy with reference to the Marshall Plan, instead of with reference to Iran-Contra, or the overthrow of the government of Guatemala, or support for Pinochet in Chile. And public opinion on America's last couple interventions was really relatively good, as public opinion on interventions goes.
America has gone from a state of utmost sympathy and support from all potential allies, to a state reflecting as great a disgust on the part of the other members of the global community as has ever been felt, and as great a lack of faith in the relevance of US military power to geopolitics as has ever existed. It's not about the size of your weapon; it's what you do with it, and if just about numbers, China has the larger army.
Believe it or not, France has always maintained a quite impressive military over the past century, both in terms of technology and training. It's just never been able to use it in such a way as to manifest its geopolitical authority. It's picked the wrong battles. It's fought symbolic rather than pragmatic wars. And its geopolitical authority has consequently wained, even if its military hasn't. France generally remains confident of the gloriousness of its Republic, and will continue to assert its significance to political principle and to the world around it. Which is good, because no one else will.
Unless the United States wants to end up in a similar boat, and go down with the interventionist ship the way France when down with its own imperialist one, it needs to look to its future as a participant in global politics. Or it will become a non-participant. And China, who can at least be trusted for its pragmatism, if not its principle, will be judged the safer ally to the world. Most of the time, a machiavellian pragmatist is a safer partner than a delusional psychotic. China's domestic and foreign policy may be machiavellian (in the fullest possible sense, as Tibet has found), but the US is presently psychotic, and that, my friends, is far worse. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2we've got a minority and/or a woman comin' right up... stay tuned
and it probably wouldn't have happened this soon if the administration didn't screw us all over. so.. there's... a ... good side?
Can I bury my head in a mound of silly videos again?
Reality is way too depressing. - sheepster, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6gotta love trump. is there a part 2 for this?
- RamanujanRedux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Both of them need to get fired.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1he is 100% correct!!!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4@ "still worth a look, though."
eh, six minutes to watch Trump say less than the story title, only using more words..
It'd be worth it if, say... he knew anything. - greenfirefly, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Though not as bad as Bush, Trump is a terrible speaker and he is clearly devoid of any rational ideas on Iraq or any national policy for that matter. Besides repeating himself numerous times in that Q & A, he was clearly lead by the host. By all means state that we should get out of Iraq, but do not trumpet about a Civil War, Iraq is already engulfed in a guerrilla style civil war. The line between guerrilla warfare and terrorism are gone and the entire violent campaign is only perpetuated by having one more "armchair expert" making pronouncements on national television. We can see what Trump believes and in fact what most Americans now believe about Mr Bush, his cabinet and the war in Iraq. All I implore is that people who are proud of their country and its history live up to that history by squashing tyranny and incompetence it what has become an irresponsible, unjust and insane administration.
- UrbanSage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I am a Dane living in America.
When Americans say everyone hates them I also disagree. Most cultures don't hate America. They are however losing respect for a country able to elect a global failure a second time.
Now there may be an argument that since Bush is an American president to hell with the world. Well, just turn on the TV, or open a newspaper and see how well it works out when you alienate everyone who doesn't agree with you. - WallyAnti, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Trump is all show and no substance. I don't know why people like him so much. It isn't hard to take a lot of money and turn it into a whole lot of money.
I switched off when he toyed with the idea of spending 20 million on a victory party. Aristocrats disgust me. - tk5446, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1For those thinking Trump is "one of the most successful businessmen in the world" you should take a look at his bio on wikipedia. He would and should be bankrupt except for his fathers company bailing him out. Trump was born on third base and thinks he hit a triple.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1are you kidding!!!! your just jealous because u'll never be successful in life the way he was (trump)
- alboot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"Other countries hate Americans"
Not true ! I'm French but I live in Ireland (I also lived in England) and I can tell everybody that this is NOT true, at least for Europeans !
The only thing I hope is that Americans (and British) will find a good way to end this war...unfortunately, it seems compromise and nobody has any good solution :-( - shunter99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1am i the only one that thinks the interviewer was a douche?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1He's not very articulate, either. He keeps saying the same thing over and over - "disaster."
Maybe throw in a "trainwreck", "monumental disappointment", and "fat, ugly, loser" here and there. - tehnico, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think what could be said is that, there are people who care and people who don't care. Those who care about geo-politics are slowly absorbing American partisanism, and they either hate or love. But by all means most people in the world, don't care enough to hate or love america for it's policies. Rather they sit and think about how bad the world is becoming, and continue doing what they can to enjoy their lives.
- Spooky, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Its funny when you got money people think your an expert on everything; then you start believing it yourself.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1trump talks trump
- diggerbarnes2, on 04/07/2009, -1/+1Trump is a total disaster. An idiot. Wouldnt stay alive 5 hours in mogadishu.
- jake8689, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3AN ass knows an ass
- RealHyperX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2We have one of the best economies ever, greatest job growth and Trump is saying Bush is a disaster? Funny. Lower taxes for businesses has helped to facilitate an explosion in small businesses. I hired 8 people this year, and it was partly to tax savings. In my opinion, Bush rocks!
Yea the war sucks, and we will be out of there. Problem is that this war is overshadowing all the other positives. - HinDeSky, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1You're fired!!! Trump is spot on with his assesment of our fearless chimpy. The whole world hates us thanks to our slightly retarded leader. Everything bush touches turns into a huge stinking turd. When will we impeach this fool.
- Visk, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2The irony of the post above is killing me
- crumbelievable, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2[insert predictable "I'm not a big Trump fan but..." comment here]
- deaxes, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Does Trump know any other phrases than "Total Disaster"? How about quagmire or horrible?
- stigma15, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Dude needs to spend a few bucks on a thesaurus. "blah blah disaster......blah blah loser" Ad nauseum
- florin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1"The people that love us hate us. But then you have the double hate."
This guy cracks me up. - Backdrifts, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Isn't that what he said about Rosie O' Donnell?
- hupp3l, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2idiots are calling each other morons, I think the end is neigh.
- crumbelievable, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1"What is your plan specifically for Iraq?"
The right answer is "Umm, I run a real estate empire. I didn't plan it out step by step."
The wrong answer is "Throw a big ***** party and split."
The Donald receives 0 points. - XedLos, on 10/12/2007, -10/+7Unfortunately if we leave there will be thousands of Iraqis that will die. I believe we shouldn't leave until we make sure Iraq can sustain it self. Plus we will need an allie for when Iran gets the nuclear bomb, trust me it will happen. the UN cant stop them if they try there is always N. Korea who will come to the rescue. I just came from my second trip to iraq and i am looking forward to my third. I don't believe a American life is more important than an Iraqi we are the same so we cant leave and let them die. We screwed Vietnam lets get Iraq right.
- m3mn0n, on 10/12/2007, -8/+5"In that part of the world, it's going to be a he"
And how many female Presidents has there been? - LilRabbitFooFoo, on 08/11/2008, -6/+2We only got Vietnam "right" by leaving.
The Iraqis will never solve their problems while we are there taking the bullets and deflecting their anger. When they don't have us in the middle, they'll either kill each other or realize they have to live together. Let them split up into three states (like they should have been for the past hundred years, and like the balkans had to do) and share oil revenue.
The only places we forced together arbitrarily into countries last century were Iraq and Yugoslavia. They are going to split. The only thing holding them together was Saddam.
So, let's leave. It's their choice whether they kill each other or not. Let the UN come in with peacekeepers if they really want to help.
Yeah, Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld screwed up in taking us in there, but we're not doing anyone any favors by staying. - Xageroth, on 10/12/2007, -10/+4When one of the most successful businessmen in the world is telling you to cut your losses and go home... ouch.
btw, don't know if I would call this video funny.. but that's just me. :( - speedstream, on 10/12/2007, -13/+3George Bush is unattractive and fat. He's not smart he's a loser. He failed with Katrina, he failed with Iraq, his ratings are a complete disaster. I plan to sue him and take some money out of his big fat pocket. He said I went bankrupt. I didn't go bankrupt.
