Bullet Resistant Bras Mandatory for German Police
telegraph.co.uk — 3,000 front-line women police officers will now be required to wear the bras on duty. "These can save someone's life so it's not a laughing matter." Bullet-proof vests, while stopping the force of gunshots in an attack, pushed the plastic and metal parts of their underwear into their flesh, causing injury.

- hollyminkowski, on 08/05/2008, -0/+7It's really hard to find a bra that fits just right and can be worn all day in comfort...most girls have just one favorite bra that they wish they could wear every day. The chance that these things will be comfortable is slim to none. Imagine being forced to wear a particular bra every day for the rest of your career. Just let the women find their own bras without underwires, metal clasps or plastic bits.
- lamiaconfitor, on 08/05/2008, -0/+10Somehow, I think having the metal underwire of your favorite bra inserted into your flesh would be a major setback, though.
- Dozernotz, on 08/05/2008, -1/+5You know, I've often heard women complain about the difficulty of buying comfortable bras but I fail to understand how it's any harder than buying comfortable shoes. Surely there's at least one bra in the world that will fit one's breasts, however lop sided or oddly shaped. And once that bra is found, could you not just purchase 20 or 30 of them?
- hollyminkowski, on 08/05/2008, -1/+4Just wait until you have 10lbs if boobies to fit before you make any judgements about how hard it is to find a comfortable bra.
- Kas70, on 08/05/2008, -0/+5For one, they make half size shoes, but only some (one that I know of) manufacturer makes half size bras - but unfortunately not for all cup sizes so that doesn't help me any. Trying on shoes and trying on bras are worlds apart and take significantly different amounts of time. They also don't make odd number cup sizes, another problem for me. Bras are also expensive, the good ones, so 20 or 30 of them can make a significant dent in ones budget - and sometimes the good one you found was just a fluke and the others you buy don't fit the same. Sometimes a bra will fit great but look horrible in almost everything you own, such as prominent seams, wide straps, too much cleavage, not enough, too much bra vs. not enough, pretty vs. functional, t-shirt vs. blouses, swimsuit vs. sleep vs. exercise...
I could go on FOREVER, but yeah, you have NO IDEA... - hollyminkowski, on 08/05/2008, -0/+2Kas70 I hear you and totally understand.
- Dozernotz, on 08/05/2008, -0/+0@hollyminkowski
So now you're making fun of my small boobies. You have no heart. - Naidel, on 08/05/2008, -2/+2***** or GTFO.
Seriously, though, I heard somewhere that most women can't find good bras because they try to go for a bigger size than they actually should. And sports bras look comfortable to me, but what do I know, I don't have boobs; I'm only a huge dick. :D - Numbski, on 08/05/2008, -3/+1Wait, wait wait wait.
Very insightful responses, btw - thank you for that.
But WTF. There are women on digg. Stop the presses.
Not only that, but they're intelligent.
I'm stunned. I knew I hadn't had enough coffee this morning. For a while there I thought average digger was 13 years old, male, and clueless. Seeing as I was hoping digg would become a "better slashdot" when Kevin kicked this thing off a few years ago, and to see what it is today, it had me worried.
Seeing intelligent women on here is a setback to my worldview. Curse you ladies!!!! :P

- insonh, on 08/05/2008, -7/+3That’s funny; I was under the impression that European Union didn’t allow their citizens to own guns so why would cops need a bulletproof anything?
Only us gun crazy Americans need bulletproof equipment
Are the European elitists not telling us something?- jerryterhorst, on 08/05/2008, -0/+6the gun laws in germany are actually not that different from the ones in the US. you are allowed to carry them (sometimes even concealed, under special circumstances) as long as you have the permits and go through the hoops to get your license. its probably slightly harder with the notorious german bureaucracy than in the US, but its nothing like the UK, which you are probably thinking of.
all that aside, ive been in berlin for almost a year and ive only heard of one shooting that ended in a death (in berlin), and it was all over the news.. so take that for what you will. - sinkhead, on 08/05/2008, -2/+3Just because something is not allowed it doesn't mean it doesn't happen.
- Dazer, on 08/05/2008, -1/+5Insonh, what a stupid comment. Most drugs are not allowed yet many citizens still manage to get their hands on them. The whole point of any gun law is to reduce the availability of guns, and make it harder to get access to them. It doesn't mean all guns entering the country will automatically break and fly away.
Please use some common sense. Thank you.- insonh, on 08/05/2008, -2/+1apparently you don't understand sarcasm.

- Rudegar, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3the German 16year old kid who did a school shooting a few years back owned the gun legally because the rules stated that a 4 year member (or something) member of a shooting club could legally have a gun of his own at home
not sure if that have changed since - StrawberryFrog, on 08/05/2008, -0/+1Someone asked: "The European Union doesn't allow their citizens to own guns so why would cops need a bulletproof anything?"
For criminals with guns.

- tmschmal, on 08/05/2008, -1/+1If you get shot, wouldn't a small cut from your bra be something that you could deal with? I going on the assumption that the officers don't get shot more than once, maybe twice in a career.
This is similar to when air bags came out and people were complaining about a little rug burn on their face. I consider it to be an improvement over the alternative.- DragoonWraith, on 08/05/2008, -0/+1Considering the force of a bullet impact, I imagine the wires get shoved in quite deeply, resulting in a fairly serious gash. - tmschmal, on 08/06/2008, -0/+1If a company wants to make it available, sure go ahead. But I have a problem with the government requiring me to wear certain underwear.

- Antaries, on 08/05/2008, -0/+1For those who can't get to the story, here it is.
The new underwear was developed as a second barrier of defense after normal bras were found to cause injuries while on duty.
The officers' bullet-proof vests, while stopping the force of gunshots in an attack, pushed the plastic and metal parts of their underwear into their flesh, causing injury.
Carmen Kibat, a policewoman in Hamburg who tested the new underwear, said: "These can save someones life so it's not a laughing matter." She organized "Action Brassiere" across Germany, getting hundreds of policewomen to try the bras out in the line of duty.
They are all emblazoned with the word "police" and made from cotton, polyester, elastic and some other synthetic materials, thickly padded and with no metal or plastic studs or fasteners.
Three thousand front-line women police officers will now be required to wear the bras on duty. Their bosses have decided to allow them to have three each.
Ruediger Carstens, a spokeswoman for the police, said: "This was pioneering work. The safety of our officers is paramount." - thetruthisthere, on 08/05/2008, -0/+1what about fat male cops with ***** do they have to wear them too?

- DrJG, on 08/05/2008, -0/+2This is ridiculous.
The post is about police, and the question is of bras being bullet proof.
It is not about breasts or sex it is about life-threatening situations.
Grow up already!! - davilliu, on 08/06/2008, -0/+0this is a good news!`and it is good for citizen!~!and some experts said the government will take more measure for this in these blogs in ##BIGBISEXUAL.C O M##~!~it is a bisexual web ,and they think we must cozy up to them!~!
- chick4869, on 08/07/2008, -0/+0haha i didn't read the article so i don't know what influenced their decision to make bullet them wear bullet proof bras but i think its a good idea. I would be so upset if i was shot in the boob and I'm sure you would be too. . . especially if you have just paid good money for them . . .hell I'd get them insured. Do they make the men wear bullet proof cups as well? haha I think its only fair. You have to make sure your package in not put in harms way.
