- jerryterhorst, on 11/02/2008, -2/+52530 rounds with an assault rifle because he heard a knock?! jesus christ, that guy has issues.
- RSS14, on 11/02/2008, -25/+360It's never easy to lose someone in such a manner. I give my condolences to his family.
- inactive, on 11/02/2008, -113/+355only in america
- bamafun, on 11/02/2008, -24/+214another senseless murder. My thoughts and prayers are with the boy's family.
- inactive, on 11/02/2008, -1/+191gonna take a wild guess here, this guy probably didnt care much for laws.
- joel8x, on 11/02/2008, -28/+197There are 2 factors that led to this - illegal drugs, and a man with an illegally acquired firearm. You cannot blame the 2nd amendment for this crime - once you start taking away any single part of the Bill of Rights, you risk losing the rest of your rights. Even if you don't believe in gun ownership, there are other people in this country who don't believe in free speech, or the right to due process (which that idiot Bush threw out the window with his war on terrorism). Tragedies happen regardless of the method - he could have opened the door and started throwing steak knives and killed an innocent child. Are you gonna ban steak knives?
- inactive, on 11/02/2008, -3/+165isn't it illegal for an ex-con to own a gun?
- garths, on 11/02/2008, -9/+133In such a manner? How familiar are you with children being gunned down as a result of wearing Halloween costumes?
- tacobueno, on 11/02/2008, -12/+135you are right, in some countries it is the children who shoot ak's
it is a shame either way - IHaveIssues, on 11/02/2008, -25/+139Welcome to the USA.
- Zervaman, on 11/02/2008, -38/+148Gun laws only disarm people who follow the laws, aka good people.
Criminals are called criminals because they IGNORE laws. If someone wants a gun, they'll find one, law or no law. - ceredron, on 11/02/2008, -7/+98The utter stupidity of this situation turns my brain inside out. How the ***** did this happen?
How do men like this live in society? - inactive, on 11/02/2008, -5/+77Gun control that ALREADY EXISTS should've prevented this from happening. But it didn't. Gun Control laws do not work, as criminals do not follow laws. This guy is simply a moronic gun owner. Who the hell starts blasting an AK through a door after hearing a knock?
- tacobueno, on 11/02/2008, -9/+73"Police say they found an AK-47 and a 9mm firearm in Patrick's house. He is a convicted felon and not allowed to own guns, according to the Sumter Police Department. The home is off a busy, two-lane road in Sumter. Officials said Patrick's porch light was on Friday night."
He was not allowed to own one already, more laws would be useless in this case. He obviously does not abide by them. - bigj480, on 11/02/2008, -7/+68 Hey kronix2, it's you again! I carry a gun knowing that I am unlikely to need it. That's the same reason wear my seat belt and have insurance. I can assure you that I have not "issues" and had to go through a rigorous process to get my license to carry. Anyone that doesn't carry a gun and ends up needing it has bigger issues. When seconds count, the police are only minutes away.
- Shadow503, on 11/02/2008, -2/+57RTFA
His dad was injured in the shooting. And you're a douche bag. - LuCiFer6, on 11/02/2008, -3/+57Something is definitely wrong with this person thought process. I mean any normal rational thinking person would have known that since it is "HALLOWEEN" that just maybe it's a trick-or-treater.
Now he mentioned he was robbed before in the same manner. How about maybe having the gun ready and looking through the peek-hole and check before spraying bullets through the door. - newms32, on 11/02/2008, -5/+58great comparison
you've convinced me that everything should be legal - craznar, on 11/02/2008, -20/+73Only in America does a child get shot for knocking on the front door of a someone's house by 30 rounds from an assult rifle.
It's not the what that makes it unique to America, it's the why and how. - bigj480, on 11/02/2008, -6/+57 The gun control we already makes it illegal for any felon to own any gun. What we need to do is enforce the laws already on the books. Both sides of the gun control debate can at least agree on keeping guns away from criminals. There is not "may" when it co,es to thew constitution, it is a very easy document to understand if you read it in good faith.
- sconnor, on 11/02/2008, -14/+64
- bdette, on 11/02/2008, -3/+52a little paranoid, are we?
- Aelbric, on 11/02/2008, -5/+52Let's add this up.
Convicted felon in possession of a firearm: ILLEGAL
Possession of an automatic weapon: ILLEGAL
Discharge within city limits: ILLEGAL
Reckless endangerment: ILLEGAL
High Capacity Magazine: ILLEGAL
Assault with a deadly weapon: ILLEGAL
So before a single round struck someone, this guy had already committed 6 felonies, 3 of them just by possessing the weapon before the trigger was even pulled. I can see how more gun control laws would have prevented this from happening.
My heart goes out to the boy's family. Someone explain why this psycho wasn't behind bars. - nwoolls, on 11/02/2008, -13/+60So I'm guessing you "only in America" people choose to ignore the stories about gangs of female children in London beating the ***** out of other kids, or mobs of people killing women in the middle east for claiming rape? Cause only in America does anything bad happen...and Americans are fat!
- joel8x, on 11/02/2008, -7/+54And doors too - if this kid didn't a have a door to knock on, he wouldn't have been attacked. Hell, do away with the whole house.
- newms32, on 11/02/2008, -5/+52I can guarantee why this happened: this is a meth addict/dealer. The thought process of someone who's overdone meth is loaded with delusion and paranoia, fairly similar to schizophrenia, and this guy probably thought the kid's obnoxious bang was either the cops or an angry customer about to bust in. This actually isn't the first time I've heard of an overmethed person using the spray-through-the-door tactic. At 22, he's had multiple drug convictions and the 19 year old was caught running out the door with $7500 in cash.
His past drug offense was "MANUF. DIST. METH. 1ST"
Check it for yourself by searching "Quentin Patrick" in South Carolina on http://www.criminalsearches.com/ - mrhahn, on 11/02/2008, -8/+49Hey we get crazies here in England. The difference is they're not armed with assault rifles.
- Timmyftw, on 11/02/2008, -4/+45exactly
- rikwakefield, on 11/02/2008, -86/+126Yes. Making guns easily available is definitely a good idea.
- joel8x, on 11/02/2008, -11/+50A convicted felon cannot get a gun - he had that gun illegally. The 2nd amendment should not be screwed with or you risk losing the rest of the Bill of Rights.
- JesusTeaseUs, on 11/02/2008, -191/+228Guess it was a trick.
/one ticket to hell please.... - newms32, on 11/02/2008, -33/+70If the kid had a gun as well, this would have never happened. Ron Paul 2008
- newms32, on 11/02/2008, -2/+38Well if he sprayed a trick or treater with bullets, he probably didn't remember it was Halloween, in which case he probably didn't consider porch light etiquette.either
- jaywalker, on 11/02/2008, -1/+36in other words, this guy was so ***** nuts, he let it rip until it went click-click-click...
- ADHD, on 11/02/2008, -6/+41are u ***** kidding me?
- joel8x, on 11/02/2008, -0/+34Yes, and dealing illegal drugs is illegal too!
- snds, on 11/02/2008, -1/+35Nope. Still a douchebag.
- inactive, on 11/02/2008, -0/+32I am reading that with sarcasm, because to read it without is to baffle my mind.
- ADHD, on 11/02/2008, -8/+40...
- apio, on 11/02/2008, -1/+31he shot through his frontdoor.
this is black on who-ever-is-at-my-door violence - LiLBiGD1Ck, on 11/02/2008, -7/+36Guns don't kill people, but they sure help.
- TheHim, on 11/02/2008, -2/+31I don't understand. But surely... i agree with you two.
- inactive, on 11/02/2008, -4/+33Yes, it is true that only Americans all around the country have the habit of knocking on people's doors during the 31st of October wearing identity concealing costumes and demanding extortion in the form of sweet morsels from local neighborhoods.
- DirtyVicar, on 11/02/2008, -2/+30There's more to this story than the article is letting on. Unless you live out in the sticks, knocks at the door are pretty damn normal. Drugs and drug house?
- supermanly, on 11/02/2008, -2/+30Hey Digg retards, "in such a manner" in this case means "so randomly" There was no real motive and the kid had no reason to die.
- theworldisflat, on 11/02/2008, -17/+43What happened here was tragic, no doubt. I have a daughter, and this was her first halloween... so it's never a comfort to hear stuff like this. However, using this event to push agendas - such as "gun control" - is a joke. Getting angry at the tool and not it's user is completely pointless. Claiming this even would not have happened if had occurred! What happened if he had stabbed the kid? Dumped some meth into his candy? There wouldn't be a sensational thread like this claiming banning sharp objects and harsh language would have saved this kids life.
Think logically folks, and give respect to the kid that has died -- don't use him to push an agenda. - inactive, on 11/02/2008, -0/+25hey guys, isn't shooting people illegal?
- chaseonfire, on 11/02/2008, -2/+27I lol'd and now I feel bad about it... damn you.
- Petrofire, on 11/02/2008, -1/+26Freud thought everything had to do with sex, he himself had retarded sexual issues.
- inotocracy, on 11/02/2008, -0/+24Meth, man.
