- thenonhacker, on 04/05/2009, -0/+52Community will be split like this:
- Regular Starcraft 2 Games
- Starcraft 2 DOTA - Xaevier, on 04/05/2009, -2/+37I don't see a split happening. Blizzard has the strangest ability to just create things that go above and beyond what everyone expected.
Starcraft created the standard for RTS
Diablo was and is its own beast and no other game is honestly even remotely like it
WC3 was a huge twist on the RTS world as it was like SC but with hero characters was entirely different.
And we all know that WoW destroyed the MMO community by creating standards/expectations that nobody has yet to even touch.
SC2 is going to do the same thing and Blizzard will not even think of releasing the finished/polished game until they are sure it will do just that. - barktwiggs, on 04/05/2009, -0/+24The real question is when will they finally release it? I'm hoping Terran campaign will be here come Christmas
- Kenelm, on 04/04/2009, -20/+44Seriously, who cares?
- agentsrecord, on 04/05/2009, -4/+23What? Is there gonna be a gang war or something? Will heads roll? Murder in the streets? Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together? What's the big deal?
- Radan, on 04/05/2009, -0/+15Every time I read about yet another game going through DRM hell or similar I can't stop thinking about how much I love Blizzard.
They are seriously like a warm apple pie hovering above the ***** of the PC gaming industry today. - vsujohn2, on 04/05/2009, -3/+17No, ***** you. Upgrade your computer noob.
- reyoo30309, on 04/05/2009, -4/+18Honestly, I could not care less if some pros stay on starcraft1. In fact maybe that will be better for the community as a whole.
- tdog138, on 04/05/2009, -1/+14A lot of people. I have been anticipating SC2 for years now. I am amazed that sc still has such a huge pro gaming scene. I remember watching Boxer videos from pro events in Korea five plus years ago.
- Mohdoo, on 04/05/2009, -0/+10No, it won't be. For the following reasons:
Sponsors want their name out there with the latest and greatest, not the old game. Sponsors being a part of SC2 means more prize money than SC1. And since professional gamers need sponsor and prize money to get by, they will all go towards SC2. Since the pros, and the VAST majority of all tournaments will be SC2, the lower level competitive players will also go to SC2.
So that takes care of the competitive players. And now, the players who play games casually tend to gravitate towards the newer game because it offers them a unique experience from SC, a game released 10 years ago. So no, the community will not be split. - Shuk, on 04/05/2009, -2/+11The elite-pro-uber-serious gamers who stick to the original Starcraft will do so because they've studied it down to a science, broken it up into mathematical processes to execute. Let them stay there I say, it will make Starcraft 2 online more fun and less intimidating.
- chaos7, on 04/05/2009, -1/+10i hope some day in america, video game competitions are more popular than the superbowl.
- ligyron, on 04/05/2009, -0/+8You know, the orcs and taurens and stuff
- BlaculasFro, on 04/05/2009, -0/+7I don't like the term either but that's what it's called you numbskull.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ARW5DFi42Ys - DaemonNivas, on 04/05/2009, -0/+7And you are referring to what exactly?
- ry4nsm1th, on 04/06/2009, -0/+7Yo dawg I heard you like Tauren so we put a Tauren in your Terran, so you can Warcraft while you Starcraft.
http://starcraft2.com/images/screenshots/ss78-hire ... - sp89, on 04/05/2009, -0/+6Just release the game already!
- sexualwasabi, on 04/05/2009, -1/+7That is stupid talk, so basically you just don't buy the expansions... Brood war was SC's only expansion, with StarCraft 2 they are adding 2 expansions... big ***** deal, its better for everyone
- craz, on 04/05/2009, -1/+7I care. Don't like it, why comment? Ohh yea, its Digg.
- ry4nsm1th, on 04/06/2009, -0/+5I'm pretty sure Intel has more than Celeron processors being produced..
- NorrisOBE, on 04/06/2009, -0/+5To a Korean perspective, if StarCraft 2 won't reunify North & South Korea, then all hope is lost for a Korean reunification.
- Kanten, on 04/05/2009, -0/+5Maybe when you play on an endless resource map.
- Advenger, on 04/05/2009, -0/+5Dugg for ghost busters.
- Kanten, on 04/05/2009, -1/+6Might as well have a reputable "eSport" stateside. Halo 3 and WoW sure as ***** aren't it.
- sexualwasabi, on 04/05/2009, -2/+6Great article, I hope everyone switches over from SC to SC2, SC is the classic, but its time for the next generation / bad ass RTS
- iletumi, on 04/05/2009, -0/+4What are you doing with an apple pie in an out house?
- teamr, on 04/05/2009, -2/+6The only thing Blizzard is doing different is announcing the expansions before the game is released. It's still the same expansion scheme they use with ALL their releases. If they announced brood wars at the same time as the original starcraft would you have skipped that too?
- TonyCubed, on 04/05/2009, -2/+5Counter Strike (the original) went crap after 1.5 when they added stupid stuff like the Riot Shield and tweaked the game engine. Counter Strike Source is good, but, it doesn't have the same fun which the original Counter Strike had.
- Stormwern, on 04/05/2009, -0/+3They missed the obvious third option, most people will be fans of both games.
- Anzat, on 04/05/2009, -0/+3Watch some Starcraft pro games. It's incredibly complex and varied, and maybe even moreso in the mid-level where people try a wider variety of strategies because they don't have the best ones down to a science. Spamming carriers is for noob games where both players just sit back and let each other build up for 25 minutes before attacking.... that isn't real Starcraft.
- Shazbuckle, on 04/06/2009, -0/+3These people play games for a living. They are celebs in Korea. And your name is "Feakygeeky" Ha!
- mugicha, on 04/07/2009, -0/+3Really? The first comment is "who cares?" If you aren't interested in this topic, go look at something else. I'm sure not everyone else is as into Grandma porn as you are, but it takes all kinds right?
- killerofkiller, on 04/05/2009, -1/+3Starcraft 1 came with all 3 campaigns.. When broodwar came out they added another 3 campaigns... plus new units and maps.
- Anzat, on 04/05/2009, -1/+3This article is kind of a cheap ploy to grab traffic with a controversial headline, that then goes on to give the obvious answer: no, the community won't split.
- Shazbuckle, on 04/06/2009, -0/+2It isn't news.
It's an article designed to stir up debate, it's quite common for articles to hit the front page of digg you know!
>_> - Frozo, on 04/06/2009, -0/+2Yeah, right after Duke Nukem Forever.
- Rudegar, on 04/05/2009, -1/+3and one day there will only be 2 of them left
- orph3us, on 04/05/2009, -0/+2How did you know hes was in an out house? 0_o
- Shazbuckle, on 04/06/2009, -0/+2Yea, I mean there are still quake 2 players around. But the split won't be as vast as the CS1.6 to CS:S
- hellsing47, on 04/06/2009, -0/+2Something tells me Starcraft isn't as popular in North Korea...
- sexualwasabi, on 04/05/2009, -2/+4lol only noobs let their opponents get to carriers and own the game, and even if they did get carriers that doesn't mean auto win, it just means you suck balls.
Tired of noobs
Sup commander was a lame ass game - Kaeto, on 04/05/2009, -0/+1dogs and cats living together, SAY IT ISN'T SO! THATS A HEINOUS THOUGHT SIR!
- Sideshowxela, on 04/05/2009, -0/+1Valve and hardware sponsors wanted tournaments to play CS:S for the same reasons, and even though several elite teams did join CGS and play Source for a while, the international competitive community never adopted it. When CGS died, those few American teams went right back to CS 1.6.
- shadowmoose, on 04/25/2009, -0/+1Well since they are releasing each campaign separately, and if the trend holds from SC to BW to now, Terrans will be last. But I'm just guessing.
- chongli, on 04/06/2009, -0/+1Diablo is just a graphical roguelike. In no way is it unique.
- bakatrinh, on 04/05/2009, -0/+1Nah, I have a feeling League of Legends will take care of everyone's DOTA needs
- killerofkiller, on 04/05/2009, -0/+1If they call the first installment starcraft 2 and then call the next one Starcraft 2: Protoss or whatever then you are SOL..i doubt it the next release will be called starcraft 2 as well..
- Smalldude76, on 04/06/2009, -0/+1@ry4nsm1th
I wish I could digg you more than once for that comment. -
