Support the site that actually did the interview. - logicalnoise, on 11/12/2007, -3/+96haha, the ultimate truth and message of portal is "people like cake".
brilliant - arunforce, on 11/12/2007, -1/+78The cake is NOT a lie.
IT REALLY WAS WAITING FOR YOU AT THE END OF THE OVEN. Damn you conspiracy theorists. - kickcows, on 11/12/2007, -1/+60the part that made me laugh was when GLaDOS says
"and i was all like"
nice use of our current lexicon. - msaleem, on 11/05/2007, -3/+53Not only is Portal truly brilliant in a way that Tetris was a few decades ago (and continues to be even today), but the fact that the game refuses to take itself seriously only adds to the charm.
- JD52, on 11/05/2007, -0/+46An interesting demographic to see would be the number of people who just excepted their fate in the oven and stopped playing thinking the game was over.
- StellarlyAstral, on 11/12/2007, -1/+44i love my companion cube.
- TedwardRoberts, on 11/03/2007, -1/+36There's no use crying over every mistake
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake! - Vexion, on 11/05/2007, -0/+34"In an interview with Rock, Paper, Shotgun, Wolpaw, half of Old Man Murray and a co-writer of Psychonauts..."
How many people were they interviewing at once? - deanoverboard, on 11/05/2007, -1/+33I actually finished playing it, its a definite 10/10 for me. I loved the humor in it. The cake is not a lie, and companion cube is still alive.
I - jenrzzz1, on 11/05/2007, -0/+31then you were like "no way!"
- JustinSaunders, on 11/05/2007, -0/+30Has anyone made a plushy, huggable, Companion Cube yet?
- jenrzzz1, on 11/03/2007, -0/+29restart.... i tried it the first time cause i thought there was cake in there.
- DiggDuggDugged, on 11/05/2007, -1/+30Portal was a little slice of Devil's Food cake for me. I grabbed the Orange Box shortly after finishing with Bioshock, which I loved and consider to be a high water mark for gaming. Portal played third fiddle for me and the blurb on the box ("Open your mind to a new way of gaming" or some such) was all the exposure it got in my world. When I finally got to it I realized what a revelation this game is. The game is fun, fresh and compelling, with a few shout outs to the classics (I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream, anyone?). This Orange Box "single" is leaps and bounds more fun than anything else out this year and worth the full price on its own.
- philomatic, on 02/08/2009, -0/+24No it's not. Please hurry, you'll miss the party! There's still a slice left for you...
- HUKI365, on 11/03/2007, -0/+24Everyone knows the melting point of cake was way to high if you believe the cover story.
- FoxOrian, on 11/03/2007, -0/+23Dugg for not saying the entire quote, avoiding a possible spoiler :)
- porplem, on 11/03/2007, -0/+21So very clever you are.
- HUKI365, on 11/05/2007, -0/+20Wired is still blog spam. Professional blog spam, but blog spam none the less.
- Matt2k, on 11/03/2007, -0/+20Translation : He was TOO BUSY HAVING SEX WITH MEDIOCRE WOMEN OFF THE STREET to be interested in such a mental chore of a game
I, on the other hand, did both
So he loses
big time - Hobofuzz, on 11/03/2007, -0/+20What the ***** are you talking about?
- toastjam, on 11/03/2007, -0/+16did anything special happen there if you let yourself burn or did it just restart you at the last checkpoint as normal?
- lowerlogic, on 11/05/2007, -0/+15"As a novelist, you just need to think of a few decent strings of words and then fill the other 98% of the book with more or less random descriptions of things and exclamation points."
I always wondered about those random descriptions - Zephkiel, on 11/02/2007, -0/+12No. This lets the site that actually did the interview get more advertising money and saves time.
- benplaut, on 11/03/2007, -1/+12You just got owned by GLaDOS?
- rwallen, on 11/05/2007, -0/+11That was an excellent and humorous interview. I hope Erik writes for all the new Valve games, the guy is a genius.
- mhuggins, on 11/03/2007, -0/+8What an awesome idea
- NSMike, on 11/05/2007, -0/+8"At strip clubs, there’s a guy whose job is to talk between the strippers. He tries to do a good job and be entertaining and enthusiastic, but everybody’s just there for the nakedness. That’s a professional writer trick we call called an “analogy”. What I really mean is that game writers are the game equivalent of the guy who talks between the nude girls at strip clubs. Nobody cares about what that guy does, and anybody who does care is probably a little maladjusted. So I’d have to say the hardest part of being a game writer is learning all the writing tricks like “analogy”."
Win. - Wrathernaut, on 11/05/2007, -0/+8It never tried to stab me.
- cloudyprison, on 11/10/2007, -0/+7No, you just die. :(
- firebhaal, on 11/03/2007, -0/+7Pitiful attempt at... life
- crodragn, on 11/03/2007, -0/+7Drugs are bad, m'kay
- sexybobo, on 11/05/2007, -1/+8Nothing like Getting a blowjob from your girlfriend while listing to a computer rattle on about cake.
- Slackdragon, on 11/03/2007, -0/+7I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you on your victory candescence.
- mhuggins, on 11/03/2007, -1/+8huh?
- mhuggins, on 11/10/2007, -0/+7Does she say anything as you burn?
- Scira, on 11/10/2007, -0/+6As you burned, it hurt because, you were so happy for her.
- Namco, on 11/02/2007, -0/+6The power of Portal compels you!
- jaymulder, on 11/03/2007, -0/+6Listen to all the developer commentary. Portals is funny because the Valve guys are great game designers.
- herrshuster, on 11/04/2007, -2/+8i got it
"hallooo! that's you that's how dumb you sound!" - astyanax, on 11/03/2007, -3/+9Maybe it isn't, but you can't actually get to it, except for what you see in and after the ending. As I asked on another forum, knowing what happens to test subjects who complete the level the 'correct' way, would you eat the cake that you saw?
- Wrathernaut, on 11/02/2007, -0/+5Wooooooooooooooosh!
I hope your hair's ok. - Fergy, on 11/02/2007, -0/+5http://digg.com/gaming_news/Rock_Paper_Shotgun_int ...
- withoutamartyr, on 11/05/2007, -0/+5Five and a half.
- pig13, on 11/02/2007, -0/+4I miss OMM. I still go there occasionally to play 'Alien vs. Child Predator'.
- flareback, on 11/02/2007, -0/+4Great game, I loved the humor and it was really just a fun game.
- bobonthecob, on 11/02/2007, -0/+4You think 18s hard wait till 19. Its loong I won't blow it for you but you'll get all the joke in this comment thread after that. Its great. By the way "You're not even going the right way"
- jcaino, on 11/03/2007, -0/+4the wired link is a lie.
- StormTroopr, on 11/02/2007, -0/+3"and is co writer of Psychonauts whatever THAT is."
This is why video games suck these days.
At least Portal is getting the attention it deserves - OverHeadCam, on 11/03/2007, -0/+3Someone from Valve has been quoted as saying they're working on a little desktop sized Companion Cube.
