- dngermouse, on 12/14/2007, -2/+50yet another game to satisfy me while i wait for duke nukem forever.
- iRoy, on 12/14/2007, -3/+34A spot-on review, UTIII is an awesome change of pace from COD4 (C'mon, like you were playing anything else before this dropped)
The speed on the PS3 version is really good and fast, even though it is slowed a bit for the console. I played with Speed Freak on today and I loved every minute of it, word on the Unreal forums is that PS3 with Speed Freak on is faster than the PC ver. on default. I actually ended up getting more kills. Can't wait to see the mods people cook up, and to everyone complaining about lack of content/split-screen blah blah blah just wait another month to buy it, the patches etc. should be out by then Epic is hard at work. Give them a break.
If anyone's playing this on PS3 add me, PSN: iRoy - deadbaby, on 12/14/2007, -3/+30It's a fun game. I like the fact you can sit down, play a quick 30M match and move on with your life. Too many online games these days require large time investments to actually start having fun.
- masterm1nd, on 12/14/2007, -1/+20You know you never actually catch the dragon.
- Chinnydaisy, on 02/23/2008, -2/+20I'm a HUGE 360 fan, HUGE! but goddammit if it doesnt start implementing mouse and keyboard support like the PS3 does. Same thing with modding. If 360 doesnt start opening their system up more, I think the pS3 is going to have the upper hand soon.
- strictnein, on 12/14/2007, -0/+17Actually, all three games are quite fun, and the game play is quite different. Amazing how that can happen.
- swanny89, on 12/14/2007, -3/+17If we did then PC players would probably dominate. A mouse has infinite aiming speed, a joystick does not.
- Xerces, on 12/14/2007, -2/+14when will we have pc to console online?
- inactive, on 12/14/2007, -3/+13I'm shocked how well Unreal Tournament 3 on the PS3 is doing. While it's far from perfect, the fact that a hardcore FPS game like UT3 made a decent transition to the PS3 is certainly praise-worthy. Remember FEAR? *shudders*
- joegibes, on 12/14/2007, -0/+10PS3 version of UTIII supports mouse-and-keyboard.
- foshizol, on 12/14/2007, -1/+11Right on my man, brilliantly put. This is the first game I've bought in six months. Because I've got a life and have to work.
- haiduz, on 12/14/2007, -2/+11Grrrrr... No he doesn't. The Flak Cannon is way weaker than in ut2k4. I used to be a flak monkey, and now I rarely use it because its relatively underpowered. You also cant say that every weapon is stronger cause thats almost immpossible... its called balance!
- inactive, on 12/14/2007, -4/+12There is no one playing this on PC. I cant find a room with more than 5 people in it. Battlefield Vietnam has more full servers. I'm pretty disappointed.
- diggrim, on 12/14/2007, -1/+9They're "considering" adding splitscreen...seriously, when will console game devs wake up and realize that some of us are social and like to use more than one controller
- loolah, on 12/14/2007, -1/+8Think there was a missing comma in dngermouse's comment:
"yet another game to satisfy me while i wait for duke nukem, forever" - xerus, on 12/14/2007, -2/+9Not to mention the hardcore PC players will have their graphics and settings tweaked to the max. While the console players are trying to look through the bloom and depth of field blur, PC gamers will be nailing headshots with the sniper.
- benitojuarez, on 12/14/2007, -1/+8Just so those interested know, because I didnt bother to research I just assumed it would be similar to 2k4. I was a big fan of assault mode in 2k4. UT3's multiplayer offerings include deathmatch, team deathmatch, ctf, vehicle ctf, duel mode, and warfare (aka onslaught). Thats it. Modes that I expected to be included such as assault, double domination, bombing run, invasion and so on are NOT included. While the UT community will eventually add them with mods they are not availible from the get go. I'm not sure how this will effect console gamers. I have a dreamcast and my pc so take that however you want. If I had known that I had to wait for mods to make the modes I expected the game to have from the get go I would have definitely put off my purchase of UT. In addition according to the 1up yours podcast the ps3 version of ut3 runs at a MAX of 30 fps, I dont know if this will hold true for a possible xbox port but 30 fps imo just doesnt cut it in UT, of course I'm way biased towards pc versions which of course has higher framerates.
- Dwebtron, on 12/14/2007, -1/+8Halo 1 - Epic.
Halos 2 and 3? - Overrated. - volacide, on 12/14/2007, -1/+7How are you shocked? Epic makes great games regardless of platform. That's what separates the really talented developers from the rest. You don't see Epic bitching and complaining about hardware, they just keep their mouths shut whether they have problems or not and deliver.
I'm quite disappointed in Valve, I'm a HUGE Half-Life 1 and 2 (and all the subsequent episodes) fan but to see Gabe so openly blast the PS3 because it's different to develop for comes as quite a shock. That's just the thing too, the PS3 is different to develop for, it's only difficult because they actually have to learn something new. - L4WL3RS34L, on 12/14/2007, -2/+8I think PC FPS will always be better than console FPS. And every FPS comes out first, or eventually, on the PC. PC > All.
- plethorex, on 12/14/2007, -1/+6I used to be a huge mouse and keyboard advocate, until I bought my 360. Now, I don't really mind using the controller at all. I am glad that the 360 doesn't support mouse+keyboard for their games, simply because it would imbalance certain aspects (sniping, vehicle control) far too much. Plus, I don't want to have to be sitting at a desk to play my console. If I wanted to play Call of Duty (or Unreal Tournament in this case) with a mouse and keyboard, I'd just buy it for the PC.
- SAHChandler, on 12/14/2007, -0/+4"where is it?"
- PATSCRU, on 12/14/2007, -6/+10I picked the game up for my PC and have been floored by how well it runs on low end systems. I bought a HD3850 256 MB for around $200 and can run the game at max settings at 1680x1050. I haven't seen a new pc game run that well on mid-level cards in ages.
- TiMMY8765, on 12/14/2007, -1/+5except probably 10 PC gamers total pay for Xbox Live for Windows, and non-paying users can only play on PC servers
- charlescheese, on 12/14/2007, -1/+5I'm waiting on my copy from family video, but I'll be on hopefully in a week. PSN: dudehans
- Droniac, on 12/14/2007, -0/+4Certainly the 360 players aught to be able to win against the horribly crippled PC players in Shadowrun. Or do you mean to tell me that you're the only one who hasn't yet heard of the insane crippling of PC mouse & keyboard players in crossplatform Shadowrun? Like 2x more recoil, playing against auto-aimers, etc? I'd be surprised if 360 players still wouldn't be able to win with that many advantages... so yes in a straight out game, the PC players would most definitely win - your own 'stats' prove it.
- bagboyrebel, on 12/14/2007, -0/+4Well I guess this guy has been playing Idiot Hero.
- bxblox, on 12/14/2007, -1/+5I think the best fps for pc was the first Half-Life, followed by UT2004
- andy17null, on 12/14/2007, -3/+7I was playing TF2.
- Droniac, on 12/14/2007, -1/+5Actually the vehicles as a whole handle MUCH better than they did in UT2004. The UI definitely is a step back though.
- chadlewis76, on 12/14/2007, -1/+4I just started up my PC version and there are literally dozens of servers, ping 60 or less, with 10 or more players on at this very moment.
- Zaggynl, on 12/14/2007, -0/+3Wait, playing shooters with a controller/gamepad? HERESY!
Okay, I got owned playing Halo *shrug* on the XBOX, but still, how could you >:( - SaxxonPike, on 12/14/2007, -0/+3Rumor has it, splash damage down, direct damage up. Try hitting someone directly with one rocket - you can almost guarantee a kill. Now try aiming at their feet the whole time, that takes 4 or 5... maybe more. Accuracy is rewarded a lot more in this game than spamming rockets all over the place.
- jacenat, on 12/14/2007, -0/+3technically, a mouse doesn't have infinite aiming speed. but practically, it has :>
but the REAL advantage over analog sticks is, that you are directly controlling your view with the mouse. with analog sticks you are only directly controlling your turn rate ... just not the same as rapid changes in turnspeed are almost impossible. - ahoyhoy, on 12/14/2007, -2/+5TF2 follows the same philosophy (although at an arguably smaller scale with 8v8 to 12v12 matches ideal). The main difference here being that I can run TF2 at Medium/High graphics, while UT3 struggles at Low.
- Kypt, on 12/14/2007, -3/+6Not going to happen. They tried it before w/ the dreamcast on Q3 and it was horrible. Within a month DC's Q3 thriving community was dead. Its always better to feel like the big fish in the pond when the pond is small and everyone knows your name. You take the pond to the ocean and the fishies die. (Hrmmm assuming that they could live in both fresh and salt water.. *cough*)
- hockey, on 12/14/2007, -0/+3A mouse does not have infinite speed. It has ludicrous speed.
- wafflesomd, on 12/15/2007, -0/+3Slowed down for the console tards.
- Tippis, on 12/14/2007, -0/+3I don't get it. Assault was what made UT great. It was what made 2k4 tons better than 2k3. It's imo one of the best game modes ever, so why wouldn't they include it?
Is it because it's too much BF, and they want to distance themselves from that kind of gameplay? If it *is* too BF, then they can't really say it's an impopular mode (although I've heard rumblings towards that fact, but nothing conclusive), so why?! :ยด( - Droniac, on 12/14/2007, -1/+4You realize there are blu-ray players for PC too... right?
- ericrous, on 12/17/2007, -0/+2I suspect that PC advantage would prove to be vastly overrated (much to the embarrassment of the K/M fanboys) if it were ever actually put to a long-term test.
- Landeyda, on 12/14/2007, -4/+6I still say the original Unreal Tournament was the best FPS ever made for a PC.
As for the best FPS on a council? Goldeneye. That's right -- Goldeneye. Halo is pretty and over hyped, but Goldeneye was simply a good time. - Skwerl, on 12/14/2007, -2/+4Sounds like someone needs upgrade their computer. I have every setting maxed out, except for high poly models, and I get a steady 70fps with the 1.1 patch.
- Joeshie, on 12/14/2007, -1/+3Yes, people still play them on PC, because it's still a much better experience overall.
- ShiningSquirrel, on 12/14/2007, -0/+2That's right.
As another poster said, no assault, no invasion, no bombing run, no domination, atleast until someone can create them as mods. - Narishma, on 12/14/2007, -1/+3There is no best multiplayer FPS, everyone has their favorite.
- SaxxonPike, on 12/14/2007, -0/+2Get Patch 1. For some cards such as my GeForce 7900GS it will SIGNIFICANTLY improve your gameplay. Also, the demo is very unoptimized. That's why they called it a BETA demo.
- lacronicus, on 12/14/2007, -0/+2can your PC run word? Because I can honestly say I would run word a LOT more than I'd play a blu ray.
- AvidPreatorian, on 12/14/2007, -0/+2Hold that breath. GO.
- volacide, on 12/14/2007, -0/+2Yeah I cannot ***** stand the UI in UT3. I hate it actually.
