You have 3 variables to consider - total zergling power, growth rate of zergling power and the current game time. More initial drones increases the rate that zergling power can be increased however it delays the start of zergling creation.
For each possibility of building only zerglings after X number of drones you would need to graph the amount of zergling power over time.
So you would graph the zergling power over time for having 5,6,7,8 and 9 initial drones. Now create an estimation of opponent power at the time of zergling arrival and choose the number of initial drones and the attacking time that provides the biggest differential between estimated opponent power and your power at time of zergling arrival.
Note that there is no single correct answer to this. On small maps the time to zergling arrival will be quite quick meaning you will reach a maximum difference over the estimated enemies power at quite an early stage, so you will only want 6 initial drones. On larger maps the time to zergling arrival will be quite high meaning that rushing early with a small number of zerglings may not give you the positive power differential that rushing later with a larger number of zerglings does. - jeremymccurdy, on 01/28/2009, -8/+42"Week 8: Harass"
